Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to block a Wema Bank card if lost or stolen

Three routes Wema itself lists for stopping a lost Wema or ALAT card, what to do if your phone went too, and how replacement works.

The short answer

The quickest route Wema's help centre gives is the ALAT app: open card control and turn the card off, then hotlist it. If you cannot get into the app, dial *945*911# from your registered line to deactivate your USSD profile or block the account, and call Wema on 07000PURPLE (0700 078 7753) or 0803 900 3700. A replacement is requested at a branch.

Stop the card first, ask questions later

A lost card is a race between you and whoever finds it. Online merchants that do not ask for a PIN, and contactless terminals, can take money before you notice an alert. Wema's own help pages give three ways to stop that, and you can use more than one at the same time. Do the fastest one you can reach right now, then follow up with the others.

  1. ALAT app, card control. Wema's Debit Cards and Fraud FAQs tell customers to turn the card off in card control; the Fraud FAQ says to turn off the card's "master status", which stops it on every channel. The same FAQ points to the ALAT app for hotlisting the card permanently.
  2. USSD emergency code. If your phone is gone too, or you are locked out of the app, Wema's Fraud FAQ says to dial *945*911# to deactivate your USSD profile or block your account. You can do this from another phone only if your SIM has been replaced with the same number; otherwise go to option 3.
  3. Call the contact centre. Wema lists 07000PURPLE and 0803 900 3700 in its Fraud FAQ. TechCabal's May 2026 list also gives 0700 078 7753 (the digits of 0700PURPLE), +234 1 277 7700-9 and the email purpleconnect@wemabank.com.

If your phone was stolen with the card

This is the worst case, because the phone may hold your ALAT app, your SMS codes and your USSD access. Work in this order:

  • Call Wema from any phone and ask them to block the card and your digital channels.
  • Ask your network for a SIM swap to a new SIM with the same number, then dial *945*911# to shut USSD access.
  • Once you have a working phone, log in to ALAT and change your password and PIN. Wema's Fraud FAQ gives that as the first step after any fraudulent transaction.
  • Check your recent transactions and write down any you did not make, with date, time and amount.

Unauthorised transactions before you blocked it

Blocking stops new charges; it does not reverse old ones. Report every transaction you did not authorise to Wema in writing as well as by phone, so there is a dated record. Ask for a complaint or ticket reference. The CBN's guide on lodging complaints says a bank should acknowledge a complaint and give a tracking number within three days, and that customers should allow two weeks for resolution before escalating to the CBN's Consumer Protection Department at cpd@cbn.gov.ng. Card disputes on the Mastercard, Visa or Verve schemes can take longer than local transfers, so keep following up.

For more on what to do when money has already gone, see our guide to reversing a Wema transfer, and our explainer on fake bank customer care lines: fraudsters often call right after a card goes missing, claiming to be the bank and asking for the card's PIN or an OTP. Wema will not ask for either.

Why speed matters with cards

A card works on more channels than a transfer PIN does. Someone holding your physical card may try small contactless or POS payments; someone holding only the card number and CVV can try online shops, especially foreign ones. That is why Wema's Fraud FAQ treats a card whose details were shared on a dubious website the same way as a lost card: turn it off straight away. Your alerts are the early warning, so keep SMS or app notifications on.

Getting a replacement card

Wema's Debit Cards FAQ says replacement is done by visiting a branch. Take a valid ID and your account number. Wema offers Mastercard, Visa and Verve debit cards; the FAQ says Mastercard and Visa work internationally while Verve is best used in Nigeria, so choose with that in mind.

Cost itemWhat the source says
Wema debit card renewal"The Debit card costs N1,075" (Wema Debit Cards FAQ, read Oct 2026)
CBN ceiling for replacement at customer's request₦1,000 (CBN Guide to Charges, effective 1 Jan 2020, item 10.6.2)
CBN 2026 exposure draftProposes card issuance at ₦1,500; a draft, not yet confirmed as in force

Wema's page does not separately state the fee for a replacement after loss, so ask at the branch what you will be charged and check it on your next statement.

What to check first

  • Is the card truly lost, or just misplaced? Turn it off rather than hotlisting if unsure.
  • Is your phone safe? If not, treat it as a full account compromise.
  • Have you written down the ticket reference from Wema?
  • Have any card details been typed into a website you now doubt? Wema's Fraud FAQ treats that as a compromised card: turn it off.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account sits alongside your bank account rather than replacing it. Pryme uses an authenticator app instead of SMS codes, plus a transaction PIN, which matters when a phone and SIM go missing together. See how Pryme security works or open an account.

Questions people ask

How do I block my Wema ATM card without the app?

Dial *945*911# from your registered number to deactivate USSD or block the account, or call 07000PURPLE or 0803 900 3700, the numbers in Wema's Fraud FAQ.

What is the Wema Bank code to block an account?

Wema's Fraud FAQ gives *945*911# as the emergency code for a stolen phone or hacked account. Its USSD page also lists *945*991# to restrict your account.

Can I get a new Wema card without going to the branch?

Wema's Debit Cards FAQ says replacement is through a branch visit. Ask the contact centre whether delivery is offered for your account type.

How much is a Wema Bank card replacement?

Wema's FAQ lists a card cost of ₦1,075 as read in October 2026. The CBN's 2020 guide caps replacement at the customer's request at ₦1,000. Confirm the charge at the branch.
