Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Everyday money

Bill payment failed but you were debited: what to do

Paid for electricity, airtime, data or TV and got nothing? How to tell a failed payment from a delayed one, who to contact, and the CBN refund timelines.

The short answer

First check whether the payment is pending or has failed: many tokens and top-ups arrive late rather than not at all. If it has failed, contact the app or bank you paid through with the reference, not the DisCo or network. For failed card payments on the web, the CBN expects a refund within 48 hours.

Pending, delivered late or failed?

A bill payment has two steps: your money moves, then the biller (DisCo, network or TV provider) delivers the service. Most problems sit between those steps.

What you seeLikely meaningFirst move
Debited, status pendingBiller has not yet confirmedWait a short while and check the transaction again
Debited, status successful, nothing receivedDelivered to the wrong number, or delivered but not noticedCheck the number or meter on the receipt and the balance
Debited, status failedPayment did not complete; refund dueContact the app or bank with the reference
Debited twiceDuplicate paymentReport the second debit with both references

Step by step

  1. Check the details on the receipt. Meter number, phone number or smartcard number. A wrong digit is the most common cause of "successful but nothing arrived".
  2. Check the service. Meter display, airtime or data balance, or TV account status. Some services take time to reflect.
  3. Look in the app's history. Many apps let you retrieve an electricity token by reference or requery a pending transaction.
  4. Contact the provider you paid through. Give the reference, amount, date, time and the number or meter paid for.
  5. Ask for a clear outcome: either the service is delivered, or the money is reversed.
  6. Escalate if needed. If the bank or fintech does not resolve it, follow the route in how to complain to a bank, fintech or the CBN.

What the CBN says about refunds

The CBN's circular PSM/DIR/CON/CWO/07/127, effective 8 June 2020, cut the time banks and payment providers have to resolve failed card transactions:

  • Failed or disputed POS and web transactions: refund within 48 hours (previously 5 days).
  • Failed ATM withdrawals at your own bank's ATM: instant reversal, or within 24 hours if that fails.
  • Failed ATM withdrawals at another bank's ATM: within 48 hours.
  • Acquirer-initiated refunds: to be started within 48 hours.

A bill paid by card on a website or app falls under the web timeline. Bill payments made from an account balance or by transfer are handled through the provider's own dispute process, but the same principle applies: a payment that failed should be returned, and you should get a clear answer and a reference. For ATM and POS specifically, see failed ATM and POS refunds.

Keep the two questions separate when you contact a provider: did my money leave, and did the service arrive? A provider can usually answer the first at once from its records. The second may need it to check with the DisCo, network or TV company, which is where most of the delay comes from.

Wrong number or wrong meter

If you paid successfully for the wrong number, the payment did not fail; it worked for someone else. Recovery is harder.

  • Electricity: a token for the wrong meter can only be loaded on that meter. Contact the vendor and DisCo immediately; if the token has not been used, they may be able to help.
  • Airtime or data: once delivered, recovery depends on the network and the recipient. Report it quickly.
  • Cable TV: a subscription paid to the wrong smartcard usually cannot be moved. Contact the provider with both numbers.

Worked example

Example only. Emeka pays ₦5,000 for his sister's data at 9pm. The app shows pending. At 9.30pm it shows failed but his balance is still down. He opens a dispute in the app with the reference. The next morning the money is back in his account. Had it not returned within 48 hours, and had he paid by card online, he would cite the CBN's 48-hour timeline when escalating.

What to have ready when you complain

Reference
The transaction ID from the receipt or app.
Amount and time
Exactly as shown in your history.
Service details
Meter, phone or smartcard number paid for.
Evidence
Screenshots of the receipt, the debit alert and the meter or balance showing nothing arrived.
What you want
Delivery of the service or a reversal, stated plainly.

Providers often ask for the same details in the same order. Having them in one message avoids a slow back-and-forth and gives you a clear record if you need to escalate.

How to make failures less likely

  • Save numbers and meters as beneficiaries; check the name shown before paying.
  • Avoid paying again while the first payment is pending; you may be charged twice.
  • Buy before you urgently need it, not at peak times.
  • Keep receipts until the service is confirmed.
  • Read token not loading if the payment worked but the meter rejects the token.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme shows the status, reference and details of every bill payment for airtime and data, electricity and cable TV. You can generate a verifiable receipt with VerifyDoc.ai to support a dispute; the person receiving it can verify it is genuine and unaltered.

Questions people ask

I paid for light but no token, what should I do?

Check the app's history for the token or a pending status. If it failed, contact the app or bank with the reference and ask for a reversal.

How long does a failed transaction take to reverse in Nigeria?

Under the CBN's 2020 circular, failed POS and web card transactions should be refunded within 48 hours. Failed ATM withdrawals at your own bank should be reversed instantly, or within 24 hours.

I bought airtime for the wrong number, can I get it back?

The payment succeeded, so it is not a failed transaction. Contact your network and the provider quickly; recovery depends on whether the airtime has been used.

Who do I report a failed bill payment to?

The bank or app you paid through. If they do not resolve it, escalate using the CBN complaints route.
