Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Cities

Best areas to open a shop in Jos: footfall by location

Terminus, Ahmadu Bello Way, Bukuru, Rayfield and Rantya compared for a Jos shop: who walks past, which trades suit each, and how to test a site first.

The short answer

In Jos, the busiest footfall is commonly found around Terminus and the central market district and along Ahmadu Bello Way, while Bukuru serves a large southern population and Rayfield and Rantya are quieter, more residential areas suited to neighbourhood shops. No official footfall counts are published for Jos, so the right site depends on your trade and on counting passers-by yourself before you sign a lease. Shop rents are negotiated privately; the figures in this guide are labelled examples, not market rates.

Choosing a location is the decision a Jos shop owner lives with longest. A good product in a quiet street struggles; an average one on a busy corner can do well. This guide sets out how the main commercial areas of the city are usually described by traders and residents, what kind of shop tends to suit each, and how to test a site with your own count before committing rent. There is no published footfall data for Jos from the state government or the National Bureau of Statistics, so treat area descriptions as common local knowledge and verify them on the ground.

The main areas compared

AreaHow it is commonly describedTrades that often suit
Terminus and the central market districtThe city's traditional commercial heart, with heavy daytime foot traffic, buses and tradersPhones and accessories, clothing, provisions wholesale, fabrics, POS and transfer points
Ahmadu Bello WayA main road through the city centre with offices, banks and shops along itPharmacies, eateries, bookshops, branded retail, business services
BukuruA large, busy town in Jos South with its own markets and dense housingProvisions, building materials, food stalls, everyday household goods
RayfieldA quieter, more spread-out residential area with larger plotsSupermarkets and mini-marts, salons, bakeries, pharmacies serving residents with cars
RantyaA residential neighbourhood with local streets and steady resident trafficNeighbourhood provisions, tailoring, barbers, small eateries

How to measure footfall yourself

Because no one publishes counts, the cheapest research you can do is to stand near the site and count. It takes a few hours and can save a year of rent on the wrong shop.

  1. Pick three time slots: a weekday morning, a weekday late afternoon and a Saturday.
  2. Count people who walk past on your side of the road for 30 minutes in each slot. Note how many look like your customer: students, mothers with children, office workers, traders buying stock.
  3. Count how many enter the nearest similar shop. That conversion rate tells you more than the raw number.
  4. Check what changes on market days, during school terms and in the cold season, when people may spend less time on the street.
  5. Ask neighbouring shop owners what a slow month looks like, not just a good one.

Worked example (illustrative)

Suppose you count 600 passers-by in 30 minutes on a Terminus-area street and 1 in 50 enters a nearby phone accessories shop. That is 12 visitors per half hour. Over an eight-hour trading day, that is 192 visitors (12 × 16). If one in four buys and the average sale is ₦3,000, takings are about ₦144,000 a day (48 × ₦3,000). On a Rayfield street you might count only 90 people in 30 minutes, but a higher share may be your target customer. Run the same arithmetic before you compare rents, because a cheaper shop with too few buyers costs more in the end.

Rent and running costs: what to ask

Shop rents in Jos are agreed between landlord and tenant, and we could not find any official or published survey of Jos commercial rents. As a labelled example only: if one landlord asks ₦600,000 a year for a lock-up shop in a busy area and another asks ₦300,000 in a residential street, the busier shop needs to bring in at least ₦300,000 more gross margin a year to justify itself. Before signing, ask:

  • How many years of rent are demanded in advance, and is there an agent or legal fee on top?
  • Who pays for power, water and refuse, and is the shop on its own prepaid meter?
  • Are there market or local government levies collected on the street, and who collects them?
  • Can you put up a sign, and does it need state approval?
  • What happens at renewal: is a rent review written into the agreement?

For a sense of residential rents in the same areas, see rent prices by area in Jos. If you are formalising the business, the Corporate Affairs Commission's fee schedule published in May 2025 lists ₦20,000 for business name registration including certified copies, and ₦1,000 for name reservation. Our guide to registering a business in Jos covers the state side.

Matching trade to area

Think about why someone is already in the street. In the central market district, people come to buy and compare, so price and stock depth win. On a main road like Ahmadu Bello Way, people pass on the way somewhere, so visibility, a clear sign and quick service matter. In Bukuru, a dense population means daily needs: food, provisions and household goods sold in small quantities. In Rayfield and Rantya, residents value convenience and trust; a shop that knows its regulars, opens reliably and takes transfers will build loyalty even with fewer passers-by.

Cash and payments

Wherever you set up, decide early how customers will pay. CBN rules from December 2024 cap PoS agent cash-outs at ₦100,000 per customer per day, so larger purchases are more and more often paid by transfer. Our guide on PoS terminal versus bank transfer sets out the costs of each, and how to increase footfall to your shop has ideas once you are open.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business Account can be opened from anywhere and keeps shop takings separate from personal money. Its bank-transfer checkout is free, and the Finance agent prepares a daily view of what came in for you to check. Spaces, Pryme's merchant ecosystem, currently operates in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, not Jos. You can read more on how Pryme works.

Questions people ask

Which area in Jos has the most customers?

Terminus and the central market district are commonly described as the busiest for walk-in shoppers, with Ahmadu Bello Way close behind. No official counts exist, so count passers-by on the exact street before you commit.

How much is shop rent in Jos?

Rents are negotiated privately and we found no published survey. Ask several landlords on the same street, and compare the asking rent with the sales a footfall count suggests you can make.

Is Bukuru good for business?

Bukuru is a large, busy town in Jos South with its own markets and dense housing, so everyday goods sold in small quantities often do well there. Check competition on your chosen street first.

Do I need to register my shop with CAC?

You are not required to before trading, but registering a business name (₦20,000 under the CAC's May 2025 schedule) lets you open a business bank account in the business name and look more credible to suppliers.
