Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to buy a BEDC electricity token in Warri (every channel)

Bank apps, USSD, payment apps, agents and BEDC offices: how to buy a BEDC prepaid token in Warri, read the receipt and load it on your meter.

The short answer

In Warri you can buy a BEDC prepaid token from your bank's app or USSD menu, a payment or fintech app, an online vending site, a POS agent or shop, or by going to a BEDC business unit for problems. Every channel needs your meter number and the amount, and the units you get depend on your band's tariff, not the channel. Check the customer name on the confirmation screen and any service charge before you pay.

What you need before you buy

Three things: your meter number, the amount, and a way to pay. The meter number is printed on the meter itself and on every previous token receipt. In shared compounds in Warri, where several meters often sit side by side on one wall, copy the number from your own meter rather than from a neighbour's receipt. One wrong digit sends your money to someone else's meter, and getting it back means a complaint to BEDC.

Know whether you are prepaid or postpaid. Prepaid customers buy tokens against a meter number; postpaid customers pay a monthly bill against an account number. Most apps put these in separate menus, and choosing the wrong one is a common reason a payment goes through but no token arrives.

Every channel, compared

USSD codes differ by bank and change from time to time, so take the code from your own bank's website or app rather than from a list online. BEDC's website names its approved vending channels, but the site only loads in a full browser with JavaScript; open it on your phone if you want the official list.

Buying through an agent or shop

Around markets and junctions in Warri, POS agents and phone-accessory shops sell tokens for cash. This works, but it adds a person between you and BEDC. Write the meter number on paper, ask for the charge before they start, and do not leave without the token and its reference number, either printed or sent to your phone by SMS. If the token later fails, the reference is what BEDC will ask for.

What the token receipt shows

A BEDC token is a long numeric code that your meter turns into kilowatt-hours. On standard STS prepaid meters it is 20 digits. A complete receipt or confirmation usually shows:

  • The token itself, in groups of four digits.
  • Meter number and the customer name on the account.
  • Amount paid and any service charge.
  • Units in kWh and the tariff rate used.
  • VAT and any debt recovered from this purchase.
  • A transaction reference and date.

If the units look low, check two lines. The tariff rate tells you your band: NERC's July 2025 order for BEDC sets Band A at ₦209.50 per kWh and Band B non-MD at ₦68.56. And a debt line means part of your money went to arrears on the meter. NERC's Customer Protection Regulations 2023 say a previous occupant's debt is not transferable to a new occupant; the DisCo has to pursue the former customer. If you have just moved in and a debt is being deducted, complain to BEDC.

Worked example: what ₦5,000 buys

Example only, before VAT and any debt deduction. At the Band A rate of ₦209.50, ₦5,000 buys about 23.87 kWh. At the Band B non-MD rate of ₦68.56, the same ₦5,000 buys about 72.93 kWh. If a channel takes a ₦100 charge out of the ₦5,000 instead of adding it on top, a Band A buyer gets ₦4,900 of energy, about 23.39 kWh. These rates are as at the July 2025 order; check for any newer NERC order.

How to load the token on your meter

  1. Go to the meter or its customer interface unit (the small keypad unit some installations have indoors).
  2. Type the full token carefully. Most meters show each digit as you type.
  3. Press the enter or confirm key.
  4. Wait for an accepted message, then check that the credit balance has gone up.
  5. Keep the token and reference until the units are used.

If the meter shows a rejection, re-enter it once slowly. If it still fails, the most common causes are a wrong meter number, a token already used, or a meter that needs a key change token after a system upgrade. When EEDC upgraded meters in the South-East in 2024, for example, customers received two key change tokens before the energy token on their first purchase, according to a report by Peoples Gazette. If BEDC announces a similar upgrade, the first purchase after it may work the same way.

When a payment goes through but no token arrives

Check the app's transaction history and your SMS and email first; tokens are sometimes delivered late. Our guide to bill payments that fail after a debit covers reversals. If nothing arrives, contact the channel you paid through with the reference, and if they say the vend succeeded, contact BEDC on 0700 123 6660 or 0700 123 5553 or at customercomplaints@beninelectric.com, as listed in BEDC's complaints policy. For supply and band problems rather than token problems, read BEDC Band A complaints in Warri. Still on estimated bills? See how to apply for a prepaid meter.

Where Pryme fits

The Pryme App's bills section includes electricity payments: enter the meter number, check the name and amount, then approve. A Personal Assistant can remind you when your usual top-up is due, though nothing is paid until you approve it.

Questions people ask

How can I buy BEDC token with my phone?

Use your bank's app or USSD menu, or a payment app, choose BEDC prepaid, enter your meter number and the amount, confirm the name shown and approve.

Why did my BEDC token give me small units?

Check the tariff rate and any debt line on the receipt. Band A at ₦209.50 per kWh gives far fewer units than Band B, and arrears on the meter can be recovered from each purchase.

My BEDC token is not loading, what do I do?

Re-enter it slowly, check it was bought for the right meter number, and if it still fails contact the seller with the reference, then BEDC on 0700 123 6660.

Is there a charge for buying BEDC token online?

Some channels add a service charge and some do not. The confirmation screen or the agent should show it before you pay.
