Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

Which Nigerian banks give business loans without collateral?

Which Nigerian bank products lend to small businesses without property security, what they rely on instead and the costs to check first.

The short answer

A few Nigerian banks publish SME loans that need no physical collateral; Sterling Bank’s small business facility, for example, lends up to ₦5 million without collateral to businesses at least three years old with monthly turnover of ₦2 million or more (Sterling, Oct 2026). In place of property, banks rely on account turnover, cash flow, personal guarantees, insurance and, for some facilities, guarantee cover from development finance institutions.

“No collateral” rarely means no security at all. It means the bank does not need land or a building. Instead it leans on what it can see and control: the money flowing through your account, the people behind the business and insurance on the loan. This guide sets out what Nigerian banks publish about unsecured SME lending as at October 2026 and what you need to qualify.

Published examples

Bank and productWhat the bank publishes (Oct 2026)
Sterling Bank small business facilityUp to ₦5,000,000 without collateral, facility maximum ₦20,000,000; 2% management fee and 2.5% insurance, both flat and upfront; business at least three years old; turnover of at least ₦2,000,000 a month
Stanbic IBTC business overdraftPage lists documents (12 months’ statements, cash flow forecast, financial statements where available, directors’ asset and liability statements) and does not mention collateral; interest only on the amount used; repay within 12 months

Other banks run similar SME products, often with names that change; ask your bank for its current unsecured SME facility and its document list. Our guide to bank business loan requirements covers the general paperwork.

What replaces collateral

  • Turnover and cash flow. The bank sizes the loan on what passes through your account. Sterling’s ₦2 million monthly turnover floor is an example of a hard rule.
  • Time in business. Three years of trading at Sterling; many banks want at least a year or two of statements.
  • Personal guarantees. Directors or owners guarantee the loan personally, so their own assets are at risk if the business defaults. Stanbic asks for directors’ asset and liability statements.
  • Insurance. Credit insurance, such as Sterling’s 2.5%, pays the bank in specified events.
  • Domiciliation of receivables. The bank may require customers’ payments or contract proceeds to be paid into your account with it.
  • Guarantee cover from a third party. Some facilities are partly guaranteed by a development finance institution or a credit guarantee scheme, which shares the bank’s loss. See NIRSAL’s credit risk guarantee and DBN-funded loans through banks and MFBs.

What it costs

Unsecured loans are priced higher than secured ones because the bank has less to fall back on. Upfront fees add to the cost.

Worked example (Sterling published fees)

On a ₦5,000,000 facility, the 2% management fee is ₦100,000 and the 2.5% insurance is ₦125,000, so ₦225,000 is taken upfront. If deducted from the loan, you receive ₦4,775,000 but owe interest on ₦5,000,000. The interest rate for this product was not shown in the page summary we read; ask for it, and for the full repayment schedule, before you accept.

Questions to ask the bank

  • What is the interest rate, is it monthly or yearly, and is it fixed?
  • Which fees are taken upfront, and are they deducted from the amount paid to me?
  • Who must sign a personal guarantee, and does it cover the full loan or part of it?
  • Must I move all my receivables or customer payments to this bank?
  • Is the facility funded or guaranteed by a development finance institution, and does that change the rate or the paperwork?
  • Can I repay early, and is there a charge?
  • What happens at renewal, and what turnover must I keep up?

When an unsecured loan is the wrong choice

Collateral-free credit is useful for working capital: stock, a short contract, a seasonal gap. It is a poor fit for long-term assets such as land, buildings or major equipment, where a secured or asset-finance loan usually costs less and runs longer; asset finance is built for that. It also carries a hidden risk: because the owner’s personal guarantee stands behind it, a business that fails can leave the owner personally liable. Borrow only what the cash flow forecast shows the business can repay, with room for a slow month.

If you hold property but want to keep it unencumbered, ask the bank to price both options. A secured offer may carry a lower rate even after perfection costs are counted, especially on larger or longer loans.

How to improve your chances

  1. Run all business takings through one current account for at least 12 months.
  2. Register the business with the CAC and keep the documents current. Banks ask for CAC documents on almost every business facility.
  3. Keep simple management accounts: monthly sales, costs and profit.
  4. Prepare a cash flow forecast showing how the repayment fits.
  5. Clear personal and business credit records; banks check both.
  6. Ask for a smaller first facility and grow it with a clean repayment record.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not lend business loans. A Pryme Business Account keeps takings and records in one place, with a Finance agent that prepares reports for a person to approve, which can help when a bank asks for statements. Businesses in supported sectors can also join Spaces to accept payments from Pryme customers.

Questions people ask

Which bank gives business loans without collateral in Nigeria?

Some banks publish unsecured SME products. Sterling Bank, for example, lists up to ₦5 million without collateral for businesses at least three years old with turnover of ₦2 million a month (Oct 2026). Ask your bank for its current offer.

What do banks use instead of collateral for SME loans?

Account turnover, cash flow, time in business, personal guarantees from owners, insurance and sometimes guarantee cover from a development finance institution.

Can a new business get a bank loan without collateral?

It is hard. Most unsecured SME products want one to three years of trading and bank statements. Start-ups usually look to grants, savings or schemes for new businesses.

Is a personal guarantee the same as collateral?

Not quite. It is a promise by you to repay if the business cannot, which puts your personal assets at risk without pledging a specific asset upfront.
