Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

Bank loan tenure in Nigeria: how long you can borrow for

How long Nigerian banks lend for by product, from salary advances to car loans, and how tenure changes your monthly repayment and total cost.

The short answer

Tenure depends on the product. As at Oct 2026, bank pages show salary advances to 6 months (Access Bank), quick personal loans to 12 months (GTBank QuickCredit), personal term loans to 36 months (Access Bank) and vehicle finance to 60 months (Access Bank, Stanbic IBTC). A longer tenure lowers the monthly repayment but raises the total interest you pay.

Tenure is the length of time you have to repay. It is often the lever borrowers reach for first, because stretching it makes the monthly figure look manageable. That is useful, but it has a price. This guide sets out what Nigerian banks offer and shows, in naira, what a longer tenure costs.

Typical tenures by product (as at Oct 2026)

ProductExample from a bank's own pageMaximum tenure shown
Salary advanceAccess Bank Salary Advance6 months
Quick personal loanGTBank QuickCredit12 months
Personal term loanAccess Bank Personal Loan36 months
Phones and laptopsStanbic IBTC Asset Finance12 months
Appliances, inverters and solarStanbic IBTC Asset Finance24 months
GeneratorsStanbic IBTC Asset Finance36 months
VehiclesAccess Bank Vehicle Finance; Stanbic IBTC60 months (5 years)

Sources: each bank's product page. Pages change; the offer letter states your tenure. Payday loans are shorter still, usually running to your next salary date.

Mortgages run much longer than any of these, and their terms depend on the lender and the scheme. Treat them as a separate decision.

Why tenures differ

  • The asset's useful life. Banks rarely lend for longer than the thing being financed lasts. Stanbic's tiers, 12 months for phones and 60 months for cars, follow that logic.
  • Your employment. Salary-backed loans usually end before retirement age or the end of a contract. Bank pages commonly set an upper age limit at the end of the tenure; see age limits for bank loans.
  • Funding. Banks fund most lending from deposits that can be withdrawn at short notice, which keeps unsecured tenures short.
  • Risk. The further ahead, the less certain your income. Unsecured loans are kept shorter than secured ones.

Worked example: how tenure changes cost

Example only. You borrow ₦2,000,000 at an illustrative 30% a year on a reducing balance, with equal monthly repayments.

TenureMonthly repaymentTotal repaidTotal interest
12 months₦194,974₦2,339,691₦339,691
24 months₦111,826₦2,683,815₦683,815
36 months₦84,903₦3,056,514₦1,056,514

Moving from 12 to 36 months cuts the monthly repayment by about 56%, but the interest more than triples, from about ₦340,000 to about ₦1,057,000. Fees such as the 1% management fee are usually charged once on the principal regardless of tenure, so they do not change the comparison much. If you can afford the shorter tenure without strain, it is almost always cheaper.

Long tenures and rate changes

On a long tenure, the interest rate matters for longer. Many bank loans are variable: the CBN Guide to Charges says local currency loan rates are negotiable and anchored to the MPR, and requires banks to give 10 business days' notice before applying a new rate. Over five years, the MPR and banks' funding costs can move a long way in either direction, and your repayment moves with them. A fixed-rate offer removes that risk but is usually priced higher at the start.

Tenure and your borrowing capacity

Banks look at how much of your income is already committed to repayments before lending again. A long-tenure loan keeps that commitment on your record for years, even if the monthly figure is small. If you expect to need a car loan or school fees loan within the next year or two, a shorter tenure on today's loan leaves room for it.

How to choose a tenure

  1. Work out the monthly repayment you can carry from take-home pay after rent, food, transport and school fees.
  2. Pick the shortest tenure whose repayment fits that figure.
  3. Check the loan allows early repayment without penalty. GTBank's QuickCredit page, for example, says pre-liquidation carries no penalty; then a longer tenure can be paid off sooner if your income rises.
  4. Match the tenure to the purpose: do not finance a phone over three years, or school fees beyond the next term.
  5. Remember that a longer tenure ties up your borrowing capacity, which can block a new loan when you need one.

If you later need more, a top-up restarts the clock; see loan top-up with your bank. For which product fits a short need, see payday loan vs salary advance vs personal loan.

Grace periods and moratoriums

Some business and asset loans start with a moratorium, a period when you pay interest only or nothing, before regular repayments begin. It extends the effective tenure and usually the cost, because interest still runs. Ask whether the stated tenure includes the moratorium, and what you pay during it.

Where Pryme fits

Each Loans on Spaces agreement shows its repayment date in full before you accept, and the credit is spent only with Spaces merchants. See repaying early.

Questions people ask

What is the maximum tenure for a personal loan in Nigeria?

It depends on the bank. As at Oct 2026, Access Bank's Personal Loan page shows up to 36 months and GTBank QuickCredit up to 12 months.

How long can I take a car loan for in Nigeria?

Access Bank and Stanbic IBTC both show vehicle finance for up to 60 months (5 years) on their pages, as at Oct 2026.

Is a longer loan tenure better?

It lowers the monthly repayment but raises the total interest. On a ₦2,000,000 example at 30% a year, 36 months costs about ₦717,000 more interest than 12 months.

Can I change my loan tenure after collecting the loan?

Only by restructuring or top-up with the bank's agreement. The CBN Guide to Charges caps a restructuring fee at 0.5% of the outstanding amount when you request it.
