Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

Bank loan rejected? The reasons banks give and what to fix

The common reasons Nigerian banks decline loans, from bureau records to irregular income, your right to know why and how to fix each one.

The short answer

Nigerian banks most often decline loans because of a poor or unclear credit bureau record, existing repayments that already take too much of your income, irregular or unverifiable credits into your account, or an employer that is not on the bank’s approved list. Under the Credit Reporting Act, if a bureau report contributed to the decision you can ask for the reason and a free copy of that report, then fix what it shows.

A decline is information. The bank has looked at your records and found something that does not fit its rules. Most of those rules are published, at least in outline, on the bank’s own product pages, and the rest can be inferred from what your credit report and statements show. This guide sets out the usual reasons and what to do about each.

Your right to know why

The Credit Reporting Act 2017 says that if you are declined on the basis of a credit report, you must be told the reason within 15 working days and given a free copy of the report (section 9(6)). The CBN’s Credit Bureau Guidelines add that a decision cannot rest solely on bureau data. Ask the bank in writing for the reason and which bureau it used.

The common reasons

ReasonWhat the bank sawWhat to fix
Bureau recordLate payments, a default or a written-off loanGet your report; clear or settle the debt; dispute errors
Debt-to-incomeExisting repayments already take a large share of your salaryPay down a loan; ask for a smaller amount or a longer tenor
Irregular creditsIncome arrives at random times, in cash, or from many sourcesRun income through one account for several months
Employer not approvedYour employer is not on the bank’s eligible listAsk whether HR can apply to be listed, or try a bank where it is
Account too newSalary account history is shorter than the bank requiresWait until you meet the minimum period
Age or tenureYou fall outside the age band or have not worked long enoughCheck the criteria; see age limits for bank loans
Documents or identityBVN mismatch, expired ID, address not verifiedUpdate records with your bank and NIMC

Bureau records

Banks must obtain reports from at least two licensed bureaus before lending, under the CBN’s 2013 guidelines, and GTBank, for example, says QuickCredit needs a clean credit bureau report and a CRMS check (GTBank, Oct 2026). Even a small loan from an app or a microfinance bank appears. Lenders may also check you as a guarantor, which the Act lists as a permissible purpose (section 7(2)). Get your own report first: CRC Credit Bureau gives one free report a year with the code FREEREPORT (CRC, Oct 2026). If something is wrong, the Act gives the bureau 10 working days to resolve a written complaint, with referral to the CBN after that (section 13). See how Nigerian credit bureaus work.

Debt-to-income

Banks cap how much of your salary can go to loan repayments. The Labour Act limits total monthly deductions from a worker’s wages to one third (section 5(7)), and many banks use a similar cap. Worked example: on a net salary of ₦300,000, a one-third cap allows ₦100,000 a month in total repayments. If you already repay ₦80,000 elsewhere, only ₦20,000 is left, which may be too little for the amount you asked for. Read more in loans from two banks at once.

Irregular credits

For self-employed people and traders, the bank reads your statement as evidence of income. Credits that arrive at random, large cash deposits just before you apply, or money that moves straight out again make income hard to verify. Business lenders typically ask for several months of statements, sometimes a full year, along with a cash flow forecast. Running all business takings through one account for six to twelve months, and keeping invoices or POS records that match the credits, gives the bank something to lend against. See bank business loan requirements.

Employer and salary history

Many salary loans depend on who you work for and how long your salary has been paid into the bank. Stanbic IBTC lists an employer on its eligible list, six months with your employer and a Stanbic account held for at least six months (Stanbic, Oct 2026). GTBank wants a salary account for 12 months for QuickCredit. If you are below these thresholds, the answer is time, not a new application next week. See why banks lend to salary accounts.

What to do after a decline

  1. Ask the bank, in writing, for the reason and the bureau it used.
  2. Get your credit reports and check every line.
  3. Dispute any error with the bureau and the lender that reported it.
  4. Settle or restructure any overdue debt, and ask the lender to update the bureau.
  5. Reduce other repayments or ask for a smaller amount.
  6. Wait before reapplying: each application is recorded as an enquiry on your report.

Where Pryme fits

Solid Allianze MFB, the lender, also uses credit bureaus, so the same records count. For spending with merchants in Spaces, a Loans on Spaces limit may be offered based on how your Pryme account is run; you see the full terms and accept before anything is drawn. Read why you may not see an offer yet.

Questions people ask

Why was my bank loan rejected in Nigeria?

Common reasons are a poor or unclear credit bureau record, existing repayments that take too much of your income, irregular account credits, a short salary history or an employer not on the bank’s approved list.

Can the bank tell me why my loan was declined?

If a credit report contributed, the Credit Reporting Act says you should be told the reason within 15 working days and given a free copy of the report.

How long should I wait before reapplying?

Long enough to fix the cause. Each application shows as an enquiry, so reapplying straight away without changes rarely helps.

Can a loan I guaranteed stop me getting a loan?

It can matter. If the borrower defaults, the lender may call on you, and a debt you then fail to pay can be reported. Ask the lender how it records guarantees.
