Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Australia

Does AUSTRAC see my transfers from Australia to Nigeria?

Banks and remitters report international transfers to AUSTRAC under the AML/CTF Act. What that reporting is, what it is not, and what you need to do.

The short answer

Yes, in the sense that banks and money transfer businesses report international transfers to AUSTRAC as part of their duties under the AML/CTF Act 2006, whose current compilation includes a section on reports of international value transfer services (what many guides still call IFTI reports). The reporting is done by the provider, applies to ordinary payments, and is not a sign of suspicion. You do not file anything yourself; your part is to give accurate details and answer any questions your provider asks.

What gets reported, and by whom

Australia's Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 is the law behind it. In the compilation current in October 2026, its table of contents includes:

SectionHeading in the Act
41Reports of suspicious matters
43Reports of threshold transactions
45International value transfer services
46Reports of international value transfer services
123Offence of tipping off
142Conducting transactions so as to avoid reporting requirements relating to threshold transactions

Older guides, and many bank pages, refer to IFTI reports, short for international funds transfer instructions. The Act's current headings use the wording "international value transfer services". We could not open AUSTRAC's own guidance while writing, so we do not set out the report deadlines or the data fields; those are obligations on the provider, not on you.

The reporting entity is your bank or money transfer provider. Moneysmart says money transfer businesses in Australia must be registered with AUSTRAC, which is one reason to use a registered provider: an unregistered operator sits outside this system entirely.

What it means for you as a sender

  • You do not report anything. The provider does.
  • It is routine. A report about an international transfer is not an accusation, and regular family support is ordinary activity.
  • Accuracy matters. Your name, the recipient's name and the purpose you give become part of the provider's records, so enter them correctly.
  • Questions are normal. Providers check identity, source of funds and purpose; the bigger or more unusual the payment, the more likely a question.

Suspicious matter reports are different from routine transfer reporting. A provider makes one when something about a customer or transaction raises concern, and the Act's tipping-off offence limits what it can tell you about that. This is one reason why a bank that stops a payment may not explain the full reason; see why an Australian bank blocks a transfer to Nigeria.

Splitting payments does not help

Section 142's heading describes an offence of conducting transactions so as to avoid reporting requirements relating to threshold transactions. Breaking a payment into smaller ones to stay under a limit or to avoid attention is exactly the behaviour the law targets, and providers watch for patterns. If an amount is large, ask for a higher limit and prepare documents instead: sending a large amount from Australia to Nigeria covers how.

Reporting and tax are separate

A report to AUSTRAC is not a tax return and does not, by itself, create a tax bill. Whether anything is taxable depends on your income, which the ATO treats under its own rules. If money you send comes from income you earn in Nigeria, or money you receive comes from investments there, read our Australian tax articles; and keep records either way. This is information, not tax advice.

What the Nigerian side sees

Nigeria has its own reporting. GTBank's inward transfer page says credits above $10,000 are reported to the NDLEA and the CBN, and that individual inflows from individual remitters must state a purpose. A recipient who gets an unusually large credit may be asked about it by their bank.

Common worries, answered

"Will I be investigated for sending money home?"
Routine reporting covers ordinary transfers. Investigation is not the purpose of it, and family support is normal activity.
"Should I use cash or an informal agent to stay off the record?"
No. An unregistered operator is outside the regulated system, gives you no complaints route, and the Act's structuring offence targets attempts to avoid reporting.
"Does the recipient in Nigeria get reported too?"
Nigeria has its own reporting by the receiving bank, as GTBank's page describes for credits above $10,000.
"Can I ask my bank what it reported?"
The tipping-off offence limits what a provider can disclose about suspicious matter reports. Ask your provider what records it holds about your own transfers instead.

Practical checklist

  1. Use a bank or an AUSTRAC-registered provider; see how to check.
  2. Enter your details and the recipient's exactly.
  3. Give a true, specific purpose.
  4. Keep receipts and the documents behind large payments.
  5. Answer provider questions promptly and consistently.

Where Pryme fits

Outside Nigeria, Pryme's services are provided through regulated partners, which carry out the checks their regulators require. When you send, the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve.

Questions people ask

Does AUSTRAC monitor money sent to Nigeria?

Banks and money transfer businesses report international transfers to AUSTRAC under the AML/CTF Act. The provider files the reports; you do not.

What is an IFTI report?

An international funds transfer instruction report, the long-standing name for providers' reports of international transfers. The Act's current headings refer to international value transfer services.

Will AUSTRAC tell the ATO about my transfers?

We could not open AUSTRAC's guidance on information sharing, so we do not state what is shared. Keep accurate records and declare income as the ATO requires.

Is it a problem to send money to family in Nigeria every month?

Regular family support is ordinary. Use a registered provider, keep the purpose consistent and answer any questions it asks.
