Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Kingdom

Applying to lift no recourse to public funds

Facing destitution on an NRPF visa? Who can ask the Home Office to lift the condition, the tests it applies, the evidence it wants and the risks.

The short answer

You can ask the Home Office to lift a no recourse to public funds condition through an online "change of conditions" application. GOV.UK says it is open to people with permission on family or private life grounds, British National (Overseas) visa holders and some others, and to other routes only on "particularly compelling" discretionary grounds. The tests are destitution or imminent destitution, a child's welfare, or exceptional financial circumstances, and you must send evidence such as six months of bank statements.

Most Nigerians on work, study or family visas in the UK have an NRPF condition: they cannot claim most benefits, including Universal Credit and Child Benefit. When a job is lost, a partner leaves, or a child falls ill, that condition can push a family towards destitution. The change of conditions application is the official route to ask for it to be lifted. It is narrower than many people think, and the route you are on matters a great deal. Everything here is information, not immigration advice; speak to a regulated adviser before you apply.

Who can apply

The Home Office guidance (updated November 2025) divides applicants into two groups.

GroupWhoBasis
Under the Immigration RulesPeople with permission on the basis of family or private life (including the 5-year partner and parent routes), people with an outstanding application on that basis, British National (Overseas) visa holders, and those with permission to stay with a close relative with protection status as a childThe published tests below
DiscretionaryPeople with permission on any other route, such as Skilled Worker or StudentMust show "particularly compelling circumstances"

For the second group, the guidance carries a warning: if a discretionary request is refused, the caseworker may consider whether you still meet your route's requirements and whether your permission should be cancelled. A Skilled Worker who has lost their job, for example, should get advice before applying, because the application draws attention to the change.

The tests

The guidance sets out these grounds:

  • Destitute: you do not have adequate accommodation or any means of getting it, or you have accommodation but cannot meet other essential living needs.
  • Imminent destitution: either of those situations is about to happen. GOV.UK notes this was added as a reason to apply in July 2020.
  • Child's welfare: the caseworker considers whether your income meets your child's needs, how the lack of public funds affects the child, and whether the child is deprived of something normal for a child.
  • Exceptional circumstances affecting income or expenditure, even where you are not destitute and there are no child welfare reasons. The guidance says such cases "are likely to be rare".

Evidence

The guidance says that if the evidence is not enough, the conditions "will not normally be changed". It lists documents that may help:

  • six months of bank statements for all household accounts, with explanations of significant transactions
  • payslips for the last six months
  • a monthly income and expenditure breakdown
  • a recent tenancy agreement or mortgage statement, and recent utility and other bills
  • a recent P45 or P60, and an employer letter on hours and salary
  • letters from a local authority, a registered charity, or family and friends who are supporting you, with how much and how often
  • a letter confirming that you or your partner receive public funds, if so

You also explain your circumstances, how they have changed and how you are supporting yourself now. Include accounts held outside the UK: a Nigerian account with savings in it is part of your household finances, and leaving it out undermines your credibility. You also provide your BRP, digital status or passport.

How to apply and what happens next

  1. Apply online through the UK Visas and Immigration change of conditions form; since April 2020 applications are online only. GOV.UK says free help with the form is available if you are not confident with computers, but only in the UK, and it is not immigration advice.
  2. No fee is stated on GOV.UK's pages.
  3. You may be asked to enrol biometrics at a Service and Support Centre.
  4. There is no service standard for decisions. Caseworkers make "reasonable efforts" to decide promptly, especially where children, street homeless, disabled or vulnerable people are involved.

If it is granted, your conditions are changed to allow public funds. GOV.UK says people on the 5-year partner or parent routes stay on that route and are reassessed at their next application. Then you can claim, for example, Universal Credit and Child Benefit.

While you wait

Some help does not depend on public funds. The Department for Education's guidance extends free school meals to some NRPF families (see free school meals and NRPF), and councils and charities sometimes support families in crisis; the guidance itself lists their letters as evidence.

Where Pryme fits

Six months of statements for every household account is a demanding request. Pryme partners with VerifyDoc.ai, so you can generate a verifiable statement that anyone can check is genuine and unaltered. That does not change what the Home Office decides; it makes your records easier to produce.

Questions people ask

Can I get NRPF removed from my visa?

You can apply for a change of conditions. It is open under the rules to family and private life and BN(O) routes, and to other routes only on particularly compelling grounds.

Is there a fee for a change of conditions application?

GOV.UK's pages do not state one. The application is made online.

Can a Skilled Worker apply to lift NRPF?

Only on discretionary grounds. The guidance warns that refusal may lead to a check on whether your permission should be cancelled; get advice first.

How long does a change of conditions decision take?

There is no service standard. The guidance says caseworkers try to decide promptly, especially for children and vulnerable people.
