Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

ALAT by Wema savings goals: how they work and the interest

ALAT Goals explained: the seven goal types, how to set one up, where ALAT shows the current interest rate and what to know about withdrawals.

The short answer

ALAT by Wema organises savings as Goals: Fixed, Flexi, Lock up, Stash, Investment, Dollar and Spend & Save, each set up in the app with an amount, dates and saving frequency. ALAT’s website gives no rate figures; the current rate for each goal type is shown in the app when you create it, and early-break rules should be read on the goal screen.

What ALAT Goals are

ALAT is Wema Bank’s digital bank; the App Store lists the seller as Wema Bank Plc. Inside the app, savings are organised as Goals: you name a target, choose a type, set an amount, dates and how often to save, and ALAT moves money from your account on that schedule. The App Store listing describes “Personal and Group Savings on ALAT Goals”, so you can save alone or with others, and an update note says the app can stash money automatically whenever your account is credited. Because ALAT is part of a licensed commercial bank, money in a savings goal is held by Wema Bank.

The goal types

ALAT’s Savings & Goals page lists these types. The page describes each one but gives no minimums, tenors or rate figures.

Goal typeHow ALAT describes itBest used for
Fixed GoalSet a specific target and lock funds towards it; “competitive interest rates”A dated goal you will not touch, such as rent
Flexi GoalNo fixed completion date; contribute at your own paceIrregular income or an open-ended target
Lock up GoalLocks funds for a set periodRemoving temptation for a defined time
Stash GoalFlexible saving at your own pace while earning interestA buffer you may need
Investment GoalSet a target and invest towards it at your own paceLonger-term saving; read what it invests in
Dollar GoalSave and invest in US dollarsDollar costs such as fees abroad
Spend & SaveEarn interest on your balance and discounts on some purchasesSaving while spending

Wema’s help centre adds that goals are available for tier three savings and current accounts, so a fully verified account may be needed for some goal types.

How to create a goal: steps

  1. Open the ALAT app and tap Goals.
  2. Select Create a New Goal and give it a name.
  3. Choose the goal type.
  4. Enter the amount you want to save.
  5. Set the target date and the start date.
  6. Choose how often to save: daily, weekly or monthly.
  7. Pick the account to save from, then tap Create Goal.

These steps are from ALAT’s own Savings & Goals page. Before you confirm, the app should show the rate and terms for the type you picked; screenshot them.

The interest: where to see it

This is a live topic: ALAT’s rates change and the website does not publish them. The current rate for each goal type is shown in the app when you set up the goal. When you compare, note whether the rate is a yearly figure, whether it is fixed for the goal or can change, and whether withholding tax is deducted before it is credited. For the market context, see how savings apps set their rates and where to check savings rates today.

Worked example (illustrative)

Example only. You set a Fixed Goal to save ₦20,000 every week for 26 weeks, ₦520,000 in total, at a made-up rate of 12% a year. Because money goes in gradually, the average balance over the period is about half the final sum, roughly ₦260,000. Half a year of interest on that average is about ₦260,000 × 12% × 0.5 = ₦15,600 before tax. If 10% withholding tax applies, you keep about ₦14,040. Use the app’s own rate to redo the sum.

Withdrawal rules

ALAT’s Investment Goals page describes flexible withdrawal at the maturity date without penalty. It does not set out what happens if you break a Fixed or Lock up Goal early. Lock-type goals exist to stop early withdrawal, so expect either no early access or a loss of interest. Check the terms on the goal screen before you create it, and if they are unclear, ask Wema: TechCabal’s May 2026 directory lists ALAT on 07000787753 and help@alat.ng.

  • Keep money you may need within weeks in a Stash or Flexi Goal, not a Fixed or Lock up Goal; how big an emergency fund should be helps size it.
  • If a goal debits your account automatically, keep enough in the account; a failed debit can leave the goal behind schedule.
  • Group goals involve other people’s money: agree in writing who can withdraw and when.

Goal certificates

An App Store update note says ALAT customers can generate goal certificates for embassies or other organisations, which may help if you need to show savings for a visa. Ask the embassy what form of evidence it accepts.

To lock a lump sum rather than save gradually, see how to open a fixed deposit on ALAT.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme’s Savings Boxes work in a similar way, with the rate shown before you commit, and the Personal Assistant can prepare regular transfers to a Box for you to approve.

Questions people ask

What is the interest rate on ALAT goals?

ALAT shows the current rate for each goal type in the app; the website does not publish figures. Rates change, so check on the day you create the goal.

Can I withdraw from an ALAT Fixed Goal before the date?

ALAT’s website does not state the early-break rule. Read the terms on the goal screen before creating it, or ask ALAT support.

How do I create a savings goal on ALAT?

Tap Goals, Create a New Goal, name it, pick a type, enter the amount, target and start dates, frequency and source account, then Create Goal.

Can I save with friends on ALAT?

Yes. ALAT’s App Store listing describes personal and group savings on ALAT Goals.
