Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ajo collector ran away: what you can do

If your ajo or alajo collector disappears with contributions: the evidence to gather, how to report to the police, and civil claims to recover money.

The short answer

If an ajo or thrift collector disappears with your contributions, gather every record of what you paid, report to the nearest police station with the other contributors, and ask for the matter to be investigated as a criminal case; collectors have been charged in court for converting contributors' money. You can also sue to recover the money in a magistrates' court or, where available, a small claims court.

Losing ajo money is painful because it is usually money saved in small amounts over months, often by traders and workers without a bank cushion. Act quickly. The sooner contributors report together and preserve their records, the better the chance that the collector is traced and that some money is recovered. Write down today what you remember about amounts and dates while it is fresh, because memories blur quickly and other contributors will disagree on details.

First 48 hours: what to do

  1. Try to reach the collector by phone and in writing, and keep a copy of every message. A written reply admitting the debt is strong evidence.
  2. Contact the other contributors. A group complaint carries more weight than a single one, and you can pool evidence.
  3. Speak to the market association, union or landlord where the collector operated. They may know family members or another address.
  4. Do not pay anyone who offers to "recover" the money for a fee. That is a common follow-on scam.

Evidence to gather

Courts and the police deal in proof. Collect, for each contributor:

  • The contribution card or passbook, with dates and amounts marked.
  • Bank transfer receipts or statements showing payments to the collector's account, with the account name and number.
  • WhatsApp or SMS messages about the contribution, payout dates and any excuses.
  • Names and phone numbers of witnesses who saw cash handed over.
  • Any photo, ID copy, home or shop address you have for the collector.

Make a single table for the group: name, amount paid, dates, payout due, evidence held. That is the document the police officer or court will want.

Reporting to the police

Go to the police station covering where the money was collected and make a written statement. Ask for the case to be recorded and for the name of the investigating officer. Taking someone's contributions and not paying them out can be a criminal matter. In one reported case, a thrift collector in Ado-Ekiti was arraigned before a Chief Magistrates' Court in September 2025 on charges of conversion of funds and breach of the peace under the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021, over ₦365,000 allegedly taken from four contributors; she pleaded not guilty and the case was adjourned. Each state's criminal law has its own provisions.

Reporting to the police should be free. If money was paid into a bank account, tell the officer the account details so they can follow it up through the bank. For larger frauds, see how to report fraud to the police and EFCC.

Getting the money back through the courts

A criminal case can punish the collector but does not by itself return your money. To recover it, you can bring a civil claim for the debt.

  • Small claims court. Lagos runs a small claims court for lower-value debts with simpler procedures, and other states may have similar courts. Check the current monetary ceiling and filing fee with the court registry in your state, as these are set by practice directions and change.
  • Magistrates' court. For claims above a small claims limit, or where none exists. Contributors with similar claims may ask a lawyer about filing together.
  • Judgment is only the start. If the collector has no assets, a judgment may be hard to enforce. That is why tracing the person and any bank account early matters.

If the collector turns up or offers to repay

Sometimes the collector resurfaces, or family members offer to settle. A repayment arrangement can be quicker than a court case, but protect yourself:

  • Put the agreement in writing: total owed to each contributor, instalment amounts and dates.
  • Have it signed by the collector and witnessed, ideally by a community or association leader.
  • Ask for payments by bank transfer so each one is recorded.
  • Tell the investigating police officer about any settlement, and do not withdraw a complaint until you have actually been paid.

Protecting yourself next time

  • Use a collector you know personally, with a fixed shop or home address, and pay by transfer so there is a record.
  • Agree the rules in writing: amounts, fee, payout dates and what happens if someone leaves. Our guide to running an ajo group safely has a template approach.
  • Remember that ajo money has no deposit insurance. NDIC insurance covers deposits at licensed banks, not money held by an individual collector.
  • Compare alternatives in ajo, esusu and thrift vs a savings app.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not run ajo or collect contributions. If you want the discipline of daily or weekly saving without handing cash to a person, a Pryme Savings Box holds naira at Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank, which is licensed by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit.

Questions people ask

What can I do if my ajo collector runs away with my money?

Gather your contribution records, join with other contributors, report at the police station where the money was collected, and consider a civil claim in a small claims or magistrates' court to recover the debt.

Can I sue an alajo in Nigeria?

Yes. You can bring a civil claim for the money owed, often in a small claims court where one exists, and the police can investigate the matter as a criminal case.

Is ajo money protected by NDIC?

No. NDIC insurance covers deposits at licensed banks. Money held by an individual collector has no deposit insurance.

What evidence do I need against a thrift collector?

Your contribution card, transfer receipts, messages about the contribution, witness names and any address or ID for the collector, organised in one table for the whole group.
