Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

AI agents

AI customer support and Canadian consumer law

Provincial consumer acts, the Competition Act, Quebec French-language and privacy rules, and the Air Canada chatbot ruling, for support teams.

The short answer

In Canada, an AI support agent must respect provincial consumer protection laws, the federal Competition Act's rules on misleading representations, privacy law under PIPEDA and provincial equivalents, and, in Quebec, French-language and automated-decision rules. The 2024 Moffatt v. Air Canada decision shows that a business can be held to what its chatbot tells a customer.

Canadian consumer protection is split between levels of government. Most rules on contracts, cancellations and refunds are provincial, while misleading advertising and representations fall under the federal Competition Act. Privacy is covered federally by PIPEDA for most private-sector businesses, with substantially similar provincial laws in some provinces. An AI support agent touches all three. This is general information, not legal advice. Check how the rules apply to your business with a qualified adviser.

The chatbot ruling every business should know

In Moffatt v. Air Canada (2024 BCCRT 149), a customer asked the airline's website chatbot about bereavement fares. The chatbot told him he could apply for the reduced fare after travelling. The airline's own policy page said otherwise, and it refused the refund. Before the British Columbia Civil Resolution Tribunal, Air Canada argued, in effect, that the chatbot was responsible for its own statements. The tribunal rejected that, found the airline liable for negligent misrepresentation and ordered it to pay the difference plus interest and fees, about C$800 in total.

The amount was small; the principle was not. A business is responsible for all the information on its website, whether it comes from a static page or a chatbot, and a customer cannot be expected to cross-check one against the other. For an AI support agent, that means answers must come from the same source as the published policy, and any conflict must be resolved in the policy, not left for the customer to discover.

Provincial consumer protection

Each province has its own consumer protection legislation. Examples of rules an agent may touch:

AreaExample in general terms
Internet agreementsOntario's Consumer Protection Act, 2002 requires specific disclosure for internet agreements and, if it is not given, lets consumers cancel within a set period, with refunds due within a set time
Quebec distance contractsQuebec's Consumer Protection Act, enforced by the Office de la protection du consommateur, sets disclosure and cancellation rules for distance contracts
WarrantiesProvincial laws imply warranties of quality and fitness that a business cannot always exclude for consumers
Changes in lawOntario has passed a replacement consumer protection Act; confirm which provisions are in force before relying on any detail

The agent should reflect the rules of the province where the customer is, which means your policy text may need provincial variations. If that is too complex to maintain, route questions about statutory rights to a person rather than letting the agent generalise.

Misleading representations under the Competition Act

The Competition Bureau enforces the Competition Act's provisions on false or misleading representations and deceptive marketing practices, which apply to any medium. Recent amendments have targeted drip pricing, where a price is advertised that cannot be obtained because of mandatory extra fees. An agent quoting a price should quote the full amount the customer must pay, and should not make performance or product claims the business cannot support.

Privacy, automated decisions and French

PIPEDA requires businesses to be accountable for personal information, to obtain meaningful consent and to be open about their practices, and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner has issued guidance relevant to AI. The federal Artificial Intelligence and Data Act proposed in Bill C-27 did not become law when that bill died in January 2025, so there is no federal AI statute in force as of this writing.

Quebec goes further. Its private-sector privacy law, as amended by Law 25, requires businesses to inform a person when a decision about them is based exclusively on automated processing, and to let them submit observations to a person who can review it. Quebec's Charter of the French language also gives consumers the right to be informed and served in French. A bilingual agent can help, but the French policy text it relies on must be as authoritative as the English one, and a person who can handle a case in French must be available on escalation.

Illustrative example. A Montreal online retailer selling across Canada gets a message in French asking whether a jacket can be returned after 40 days. The agent answers in French from the French version of the returns policy, quoting the clause, and explains that the window has closed. When the customer replies that the zip broke, the question becomes one of legal warranty rather than the return window, so the agent passes the case, in French and with the order attached, to a French-speaking colleague who decides.

A mandate for Canadian support

  1. Answer only from published policy, and fix the policy where it conflicts with what the agent says.
  2. Quote full prices, including mandatory fees.
  3. Handle provincial rights questions with care, or route them to a person.
  4. In Quebec, serve in French on request and keep exceptions and refusals with a person.
  5. Pass any mention of a tribunal, the Competition Bureau or a provincial regulator to a named person.

Where Pryme fits

Business accounts can be opened from Canada, and the account holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR with local details for each; outside Nigeria, Pryme's activities are carried out through regulated partners. The Customer Support agent answers from the policies you point it at, attaches the clause to each reply and hands exceptions to a named person. Refunds go through the Finance agent under your approvals, and the Compliance agent tracks policy reviews. Every action is on the audit trail. See when not to automate support for the cases to keep human. For what an audit trail should hold, see audit trails for AI agents.

Questions people ask

What did the Air Canada chatbot case decide?

The BC Civil Resolution Tribunal held Air Canada liable for its chatbot's inaccurate statement about bereavement fares, rejecting the idea that the chatbot was responsible for itself.

Which consumer law applies to my Canadian customers?

Mainly the consumer protection law of the customer's province, plus the federal Competition Act on misleading representations. Check with an adviser.

Does Quebec require support in French?

Quebec's Charter of the French language gives consumers the right to be informed and served in French. Plan for French answers and French-speaking escalation.

Is there a Canadian federal AI law?

Not as of this writing. The proposed Artificial Intelligence and Data Act died with Bill C-27 in January 2025. Privacy laws still apply.
