Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

AI chief of staff for a private school in Nigeria

How a Nigerian private school proprietor can use an AI chief of staff to track fees, parent queries, staff pay and approvals, keeping judgement human.

The short answer

For a private school in Nigeria, an AI chief of staff reads fee payments, parent messages, staff salaries, supplier bills and regulatory dates together, routes each to the right agent or person and brings the proprietor only the decisions that need them, such as a fee waiver or a large supplier payment. Teaching, discipline and safeguarding stay entirely with people.

The proprietor's term, in practice

Most proprietors run the school's business side alongside everything else. In the weeks around resumption, hundreds of parents pay fees in different ways, some in full, some in parts, some late. Parents send messages on WhatsApp, by phone and at the gate, asking about balances, uniforms, levies and receipts. Teachers expect salaries on time even when fee collection is slow, and suppliers of books, uniforms and food want paying.

The bursar and the proprietor usually hold all of this in their heads and a spreadsheet. The risk is not that any one task is hard; it is that something important, a promise to a parent, a salary shortfall, a missed renewal, gets lost among the routine.

An AI chief of staff is not a school management system and does not replace the bursar. It reads the money and messages the business side produces and tells the proprietor what needs a decision.

What it reads, and where each item goes

SignalRouted toWhat reaches the proprietor
Parent pays a fee instalmentFinance agent matches it to the pupil's accountNothing; it appears in the term totals
Parent asks for their balanceCustomer Support answers from the school's records and fee policyNothing, unless the parent disputes it
Parent asks for a discount or more timeNot granted by an agentThe request, with the payment history
Fees collected are behind the salary billFinance shows the gap with datesThe cash plan decision
Supplier bill for books or uniformsFinance matches it to the orderPayments above your ceiling
Approval, registration or tax dateCompliance holds it on the registerReminders with owner and date
Message mentioning a child's safety or wellbeingNot answered by an agentImmediately, to the named person

Worked example: a nursery and primary school in Lagos

Illustrative example, figures invented. The school has 420 pupils. Two weeks into term, the proprietor's Monday brief shows:

  1. Fees received are at 61% of the term's billing, and the salary run is due in ten days. Finance shows the expected shortfall and which classes have the most outstanding balances.
  2. Fourteen parents asked for extra time to pay. The agent did not grant any. It lists each request with the family's payment history, so the proprietor can decide consistently.
  3. A uniform supplier's bill is ₦1.8m, above the proprietor's ceiling. It waits for her approval and the bursar as second approver.
  4. A parent wrote about a bruise their child came home with. No agent replied. The message went straight to the head teacher and proprietor.

Around 600 parent messages about balances, receipts and term dates were answered from the school's own fee records and policies. Each payment was matched to a pupil without the bursar typing it in.

The shortfall in the first item is a familiar pattern in Nigerian schools, and the decision behind it is the proprietor's: draw on reserves, delay a non-urgent payment, follow up specific families or offer a structured instalment plan. The agent's job is to show the gap early enough that the choice is not made the night before salaries are due.

What stays with people

  • Teaching, assessment, admissions and discipline.
  • Safeguarding and anything about a child's welfare. Messages that touch on it go to a named person at once.
  • Fee waivers, discounts, scholarships and extensions.
  • Staff matters, including pay rises and contracts.
  • Signing returns and dealing with regulators, such as your state's education authority and tax authorities.

Children's data needs extra care. The Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission's guidance apply to personal data the school processes. Decide which records the agents may read, keep pupil welfare and academic records outside their access unless advised otherwise, and tell parents how their data is used.

Setting it up in a school

  1. Write the fee schedule, instalment rules, late-payment policy and refund terms in one document.
  2. Give each family a clear way to pay so payments can be matched, for example a dedicated account number per family.
  3. Set payment ceilings with the bursar or a director as second approver.
  4. List topics the agents must never answer, starting with safeguarding.
  5. Add approvals, registrations, tax and pension dates to the obligations register.
  6. Plan the long-vacation cash position early, when fee income stops but salaries continue.

Bring the bursar in from the start. The agents take over the matching and the routine replies, which is the part of the bursar's job that grows with every new family. What remains, handling difficult conversations, keeping the proprietor informed and checking the agents' work, is the part that most needs an experienced person.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business account comes with the Chief of Staff and four specialist agents. Naira deposits are held by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Ltd, CBN-licensed and NDIC-insured up to the applicable limit. Schools can give families virtual account numbers and pay staff through payroll. See also paying teachers in the long vacation and AI agents for small-business admin in Nigeria.

Questions people ask

Can an AI chief of staff collect school fees?

It does not collect money itself. Payments go into the school's account, and the Finance agent matches each one to a pupil. The chief of staff shows the term's collection position.

Will it reply to parents on WhatsApp?

The Customer Support agent can answer fee and payment questions from the school's records. Anything outside those topics goes to the office.

Can it grant a parent more time to pay?

No. Extensions and discounts are decisions for the proprietor or bursar. The agent brings each request with the family's payment history.

Is pupils' data safe with an agent?

Limit what the agents can read to the business records they need. The NDPA applies to the school's processing of personal data; take advice on children's data.
