Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

AI agents

Hire, contract or use an AI chief of staff? How to decide

Assistant, VA, operations manager, COO or AI agent: a simple test to match each kind of help to the work that is actually overwhelming you.

The short answer

Start by sorting the work that overwhelms you into three kinds: time and people, delivery, and reading across the business. Time and people work suits an assistant, delivery suits an operations manager, and reading across functions suits an AI chief of staff. Leadership and accountability need a senior hire such as a COO, which no agent replaces.

Sort the work before you choose the help

Owners often choose the help first and the problem second. A better order is to list two weeks of interruptions, then sort each one. The pattern usually points to the right kind of help, and often to more than one.

Kind of workExamplesBest fit
Time and peopleDiary, travel, meeting prep, gatekeepingExecutive or virtual assistant
DeliveryRotas, suppliers, quality, fixing what brokeOperations manager
Reading across the businessCash, overdue invoices, broken promises, deadlines, complaint themesAI chief of staff
Leadership and accountabilitySetting direction, hiring leaders, signingCOO or the founder

A two-week interruption audit

  1. Keep a simple log: each time something reaches you, write one line.
  2. Tag each line: time, people, delivery, reading or leadership.
  3. Mark which ones you actually decided, and which you only acknowledged.
  4. Count. Most owners find that acknowledgements outnumber decisions by a wide margin.
  5. Look at what fell between teams, such as a sales promise operations did not know about. That gap is where reading across the business pays off.

The acknowledgements are the clearest target for an agent. They need someone to notice and pass on, not someone to decide.

The decisions are different. Some should stay with you because they involve money, risk or people. Others could be delegated to a manager if you had one you trusted. That second group is the strongest case for a hire, because an agent can prepare those decisions but should not take them.

Be honest in the tagging. Owners tend to label work as needing them when it only needs someone who knows the context. If a line says "supplier asked about payment date", that is reading and routing, not a decision, unless the payment is above a limit you set.

What each option costs you besides money

  • A hire brings judgement and relationships, but also management time, employment obligations and a notice period. UK and US government guidance on employing staff sets out what is involved.
  • A contractor or virtual assistant is flexible, but knowledge leaves with them, and long exclusive arrangements can raise employment-status questions.
  • An AI chief of staff is consistent and keeps a record, but it only sees what is recorded, cannot read people and needs clear limits.
  • Doing nothing costs the founder's evenings and the decisions that wait too long.

Mixing options is normal. A business might use an agent for the reading, a part-time assistant for the diary and the founder for leadership, then add an operations manager when a second site opens. The point is to match each kind of work to the cheapest reliable owner, and to review the split as the business grows.

Questions to test an AI chief of staff before relying on it

  • What can it read, and what can it not see?
  • What may it do alone, and where does it stop?
  • Who receives the decisions it raises, and what happens if they do not respond?
  • Is every action recorded, and can you export the record?
  • Has it been tested before working on your business, and can you read the result?

Ask the same kind of questions of a human hire, in a different form: what will they own, what may they decide alone, and how will you know what they did. Clear answers make any delegation safer, whether the delegate is a person or software.

These questions follow the spirit of risk frameworks such as NIST's AI Risk Management Framework, which asks organisations to understand what a system is for, where it can fail and who is accountable.

If a supplier cannot answer them clearly, treat that as a finding. An agent you cannot predict is a risk however capable it looks in a demonstration, because the value of delegation depends on knowing where the delegate stops.

Worked example: three businesses, three answers

Illustrative examples.

Solo accountant
Log shows mostly reading: invoices, client deadlines, overdue payments. Starts with an AI chief of staff; no hire.
Events agency, 15 staff
Log split between diary pressure and supplier problems. Hires an executive assistant and uses the agent for finance and pipeline reading.
Distribution firm, 60 staff
Log shows delivery failures and no leader for two depots. Hires an operations manager; the agent reads across depots for the owner.

In each case the log, not the job title, decided the answer. Each business also set a date to repeat the audit, because the right mix changes as headcount, sites and markets change.

Notice that none of the three replaced a person with an agent. The agent took the reading that nobody owned, and the hires were aimed at the work that needed judgement, presence or authority. That is usually where the value lies for a small business: not fewer people, but people spending their time on the parts of the job that need them.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business account includes a Chief of Staff agent and four specialists: Finance, Sales, Customer Support and Compliance. Each works inside a mandate with a ceiling, and every action is on the audit trail; this guide to the agents explains who approves what. For the role-by-role comparisons, read executive assistant, operations manager and COO, or open an account.

Questions people ask

What is the first sign I need help?

Decisions waiting days because you have not reached them, or things falling between teams. A two-week log will show which.

Can I start with an agent and hire later?

Yes. Many owners use an agent to clear reading and routing, then hire for the work that still needs a person, with a clearer brief.

How long before I know if it is working?

Give it a month. Measure how many items still reach you that should not, and how long decisions wait.

Are there legal duties when I hire?

Yes, such as payroll, pensions and right-to-work checks, which vary by country. Government guidance is a good start; confirm with an adviser.
