Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

AI bookkeeping for a US LLC: what to set up first

How a US LLC should set up its books before handing them to an AI agent: tax classification, separate accounts, receipts and the reviews you keep.

The short answer

Before an AI agent can keep an LLC's books well, the LLC needs a clear tax classification, a business account kept apart from personal money, a chart of accounts that fits its return, and a habit of keeping receipts. With those in place, an agent can categorise, reconcile and flag gaps daily, while the owner and an accountant review the judgement calls.

Start with how the IRS sees your LLC

An LLC is a state-law entity, and the IRS does not tax it as an LLC. According to the IRS, a single-member LLC is treated by default as a disregarded entity, reported on the owner's return, while a multi-member LLC is treated by default as a partnership. Either can elect to be taxed as a corporation, and some then elect S corporation status. That classification decides which return the books feed, and so which categories matter.

Default or electionReturn the books feedWhat the agent needs to know
Single-member, disregardedSchedule C (or E/F) on the owner's Form 1040Owner draws are not wages; self-employment tax applies to profit
Multi-member, partnershipForm 1065 with K-1sTrack each member's capital and distributions
Elected S corporationForm 1120-SOwner-employees on payroll; distributions recorded separately
Elected C corporationForm 1120Dividends and salaries kept distinct

An agent should be told the classification once and should refuse to guess it. If your LLC changed election mid-year, that is a question for your accountant, not something to infer from transactions.

The setup an agent needs

  1. A separate business account. Mixed personal and business spending is the most common reason small-business books are hard to reconcile, and the SBA advises keeping them apart.
  2. A chart of accounts aligned to your return. If you file Schedule C, categories that map to its lines save work at year end.
  3. Receipts captured at the time. IRS Publication 583 explains that you must keep records that support income and deductions; a photo forwarded to the agent the day you spend is easier than a shoebox in March.
  4. Rules for recurring items. Rent, software subscriptions and loan repayments should be categorised the same way every month, with the loan split into principal and interest.
  5. A review rhythm. Weekly for exceptions, monthly for a reconciled close.

Decide too how you will treat a few recurring grey areas before the agent starts: home office costs, meals with clients, vehicle use and small equipment. Write the rule once, approve it, and the agent applies it the same way all year. Consistency matters more to an accountant reviewing your file than any single category choice, and a written rule is easier to defend if the IRS ever asks how you reached a figure.

What the agent does each day

  • Reads the bank and card feeds and proposes a category for each transaction, citing the rule or past pattern it used.
  • Matches receipts and invoices to transactions and lists what is missing.
  • Reconciles each account against the bank balance and explains any difference rather than forcing it to zero.
  • Separates owner draws and contributions from income and expenses.
  • Notes items that may matter at tax time, such as a large equipment purchase or a payment to a contractor who will need a 1099.
  • Keeps a list of what it changed and why, so a correction made in June can be traced in December.

At month end it produces a short close: balances reconciled, open items listed, and a profit figure you can use for estimated tax. That monthly rhythm is what turns bookkeeping from a year-end scramble into a routine. For a deeper look at the month-end routine, see using AI to shorten the month-end close.

For the mechanics of matching and where it breaks, see AI bank reconciliation.

Where AI bookkeeping fails

Agents struggle with ambiguity. A $1,200 payment to a hardware store might be inventory, a repair, a capital item or a personal purchase. An agent that guesses confidently is worse than one that asks. Other weak spots: mixed-use assets such as a car or phone, loans between the owner and the LLC, and transactions in foreign currency that need a consistent exchange-rate method.

Worked example

Example only. Marcus owns a single-member LLC selling refurbished bikes in Colorado. In March the agent processes 212 transactions. It categorises 188 using his rules, matches 171 receipts, and raises 24 items: 9 unmatched card payments, 6 marketplace payouts that net fees against sales, 5 transfers between his personal and business accounts, and 4 purchases that could be inventory or tools. Marcus resolves them in about 40 minutes. His accountant reviews the year-end file rather than rebuilding it.

Two of the 24 items led to new rules: marketplace payouts are now split into gross sales and fees automatically, and transfers from his personal account are recorded as owner contributions. The following month, the agent raised 11 items instead of 24. The improvement came from Marcus writing rules, not from the agent learning on its own.

Where Pryme fits

The Finance agent on a Pryme Business account keeps the books, reconciles balances and runs the close, with every line tracing to a source and anything it cannot explain left open for a person. Pryme does not claim integrations with named accounting software; ask Pryme how books are exported. Invoicing sits on the same ledger. For deadlines, see our LLC compliance calendar. Pryme is not a tax adviser; keep your accountant in the loop.

Questions people ask

Does a single-member LLC need separate books?

The IRS reports a disregarded LLC's activity on the owner's return, but separate books and a separate account make that reporting far easier and help show the LLC is run as a distinct business. Ask your adviser about your state.

Can AI bookkeeping replace my accountant?

It can replace much of the data entry and reconciliation. It should not replace the review of your return, entity elections or tax planning.

How often should I review what the agent did?

Weekly for flagged exceptions and monthly for the reconciled close. Spot-check a sample of auto-categorised entries each month.

What records does the IRS expect me to keep?

Records that support your income, deductions and credits, such as receipts, invoices, bank statements and payroll records. Publication 583 and the IRS record-keeping pages give the detail.
