Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

AI agents

What AI agents can run in a US small business

Which parts of a US small business or LLC AI agents can run today, what must stay with the owner, and how to set limits before they touch money.

The short answer

AI agents can already run much of the back office of a US small business: categorising transactions, reconciling accounts, chasing invoices, answering routine customer questions and keeping a calendar of IRS and state deadlines. They should not sign tax returns, set prices, hire or fire, or move money without an approval you set. The useful question is not whether to use agents but where each one stops.

What an AI agent is, in plain terms

An AI agent is software that reads your business records, decides on a next step within rules you set, and either completes that step or prepares it for a person. That is different from a chatbot, which only answers questions, and from a fixed automation, which follows one script and breaks when the input changes. Our explainer on AI agents for business finance covers the general idea; this article looks at the US owner-operator and LLC specifically.

For a small US business, the work agents suit best is the repetitive, rule-bound admin that arrives every week: the bank feed, the receipts, the overdue invoices, the inbox of customers asking where their order is, and the list of filing dates spread across federal and state agencies.

It also helps to separate three kinds of action. Reading is low risk: an agent looking at your bank feed changes nothing. Preparing is medium risk: a drafted invoice or a proposed journal entry can be checked before it takes effect. Acting is where risk sits: a sent email, a released payment or a refund. Most owners start with reading and preparing, and allow acting only below small, written limits.

Where agents help a US business most

AreaWhat an agent can doWhat stays with you
BookkeepingCategorise transactions, match receipts, reconcile accounts, flag gapsThe chart of accounts, judgement calls on unusual items
TaxesTrack estimated tax dates, 1099 contractor totals, sales tax by stateSigning returns, nexus and entity decisions, adviser sign-off
Payroll adminCheck hours, chase missing W-4s and I-9s, remind on Form 941 datesPay rates, classification, approving each run
InvoicingDraft invoices, send reminders, record promises to payWriting off debts, legal action, disputed amounts
Customer supportAnswer from your own policies, route complaints, log refunds within policyExceptions, goodwill, anything a policy does not cover
ComplianceHold a calendar of state annual reports and licence renewalsDeciding what applies to you, signing filings

The pattern is consistent. Agents do well where there is a record to read and a rule to apply. They do badly where the answer depends on judgement, relationships or law that has not been written into your own policies.

Specialisation matters too. One general assistant asked to do everything tends to blur the lines between keeping the books and chasing a customer. Separate agents, each with a defined scope, make it easier to see who did what and to stop one without stopping the rest. A coordinating agent can then read across them and bring the owner only the items that need a decision.

What can go wrong

  • Wrong answers stated confidently. Large language models can produce plausible text that is not true. An agent should cite the record or policy it used, and anything it cannot source should go to a person.
  • Over-reach. An agent with access to a payment screen and no ceiling is a risk, however good the model. Limits must be enforced by the system, not requested in a prompt.
  • Stale rules. US tax thresholds change. The 1099-NEC reporting threshold, for example, rose from $600 to $2,000 for payments made after 31 December 2025, according to the IRS. An agent working from last year's rule will be wrong.
  • Data exposure. Customer and employee records are sensitive. Check what the vendor stores, where, and who can see it.
  • Vendor claims. The FTC has taken action against companies that overstated what their AI could do for small businesses. Ask for evidence, not projections, before you buy.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology's AI Risk Management Framework is a useful, voluntary reference for thinking about these risks in a structured way, even for a very small firm.

A worked example

Example only. Dana runs a two-person landscaping LLC in Ohio with about 60 transactions a week, 25 open invoices and three subcontractors. Before agents, she spent Sunday evenings on admin.

  1. The Finance agent categorises the week's transactions and flags four it cannot match to a receipt.
  2. The Sales agent sends polite reminders on six invoices past due and records two customers who promised to pay on Friday.
  3. The Compliance agent notes that one subcontractor has passed $2,000 for the year and has no W-9 on file.
  4. The Chief of Staff agent puts three items in Dana's morning brief: the four unmatched transactions, the missing W-9, and a $3,800 supplier payment above her approval ceiling.

Dana still makes every decision that matters. What changes is that she sees three items instead of sorting through sixty.

How to start without losing control

  1. Open a separate business account if you have not already. The SBA recommends keeping business and personal finances apart.
  2. Write down the ceilings: the largest payment an agent may prepare without you, the largest discount, the largest refund.
  3. Start agents in draft-only mode for a month and compare their work with yours.
  4. Keep a named adviser for tax and legal questions. Agents prepare; advisers and owners decide.
  5. Review the audit trail weekly at first. You are checking not only what the agents did, but what they declined to do and why.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business account comes with five agents: Chief of Staff, Finance, Sales, Customer Support and Compliance. They are built, trained and certified on Pryme Intelligence, the governed agentic operating system they run on, before they work on a business. Each acts inside a mandate with a ceiling, every action is on the audit trail, and no money moves without the approvals you set. The account holds USD, GBP, EUR and NGN with local details for each. Outside Nigeria, Pryme works through regulated partners. See how it works.

Questions people ask

Are AI agents safe to use for a small business?

They can be, if they act inside enforced limits, cite their sources and leave money movement, pricing and legal decisions to named people. Check the vendor's controls and audit trail before connecting accounts.

Can an AI agent file my taxes?

An agent can gather figures and draft forms, but you or your preparer should review and sign. The IRS holds the taxpayer responsible for what is filed.

Do I still need an accountant?

Most small businesses still benefit from a CPA or enrolled agent for returns, entity choices and planning. Agents reduce the routine work an accountant would otherwise bill for or wait on.

Which agent should a US small business start with?

Usually finance, because clean books make sales follow-up, tax tracking and compliance easier. Start in draft-only mode and widen scope once you trust the output.
