2018OjirehPrime Card

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

AI agents

AI agents for small UK charities: donations, Gift Aid, returns

How a small UK charity can use AI agents for donation records, Gift Aid admin, restricted funds and Charity Commission deadlines, with trustees in control.

The short answer

A small UK charity can use AI agents to log donations against the right fund, check Gift Aid declarations are on file, thank donors, prepare supplier payments for approval and hold deadlines such as the Charity Commission annual return. Trustees remain responsible for the charity's money and decisions, so grant awards, use of restricted funds and anything that commits the charity should stay with a named person. Every agent action should be recorded so trustees can review it.

Small charities run on volunteers and a part-time treasurer. The finance and admin load is real: donations to record and thank, Gift Aid to claim, restricted grants to track, suppliers to pay and an annual return to file. AI agents can take on the repetitive parts, which leaves trustees and staff more time for the cause. They cannot take on the trustees' duties.

Admin that weighs on small charities

TaskAgent roleTrustee or staff role
DonationsRecord gifts, match to donor and fund, send thank-you messagesAccepting unusual or large gifts
Gift AidCheck declarations are on file, prepare claim schedulesSubmit the claim, answer HMRC queries
Restricted fundsCode income and spending to the right fund, flag overspendsDecide how restricted money is used
PaymentsPrepare supplier and grant payments for approvalApprove and release
DeadlinesAnnual return, accounts, insurance, safeguarding reviewsSign and file

Gift Aid and donor records

HMRC allows charities to claim Gift Aid on eligible donations from UK taxpayers who have made a valid declaration, and requires the charity to keep records that show the claim is correct. That makes Gift Aid a record-keeping exercise first. An agent can check each donation has a matching declaration, flag donations where the donor is not yet covered, and prepare the claim schedule for the treasurer to review and submit. It should not decide edge cases such as whether a donation carried a benefit to the donor that affects eligibility; those go to a person who knows the rules.

Thanking donors is also a good fit. A prompt, personal acknowledgement written in the charity's voice, sent within a day, is more than many small charities manage by hand. If the charity fundraises from the public, check its messages against the Fundraising Regulator's Code of Fundraising Practice, and follow UK GDPR and PECR for marketing emails.

Restricted funds and trustee control

Money given for a stated purpose must be used for that purpose. A common failure in small charities is spending restricted funds on general costs during a tight month. The Finance agent can code each grant and donation to its fund, show each fund's balance, and stop and ask before any payment would draw a restricted fund below what the grant requires. The decision stays with the treasurer and trustees.

Approvals matter in charities because the people releasing money often change. Set up a second named approver above a threshold, so that no single volunteer can release a large payment, and keep the approvers list up to date when trustees change.

When trustees and volunteers change

Small charities change officers often, and the most common control failure is a former treasurer who can still release payments. Agents help here because they read the approvers list on every payment. Keep it current:

  • Remove a departing trustee's approval rights on the day they step down
  • Name two approvers for any payment above your threshold, from different households
  • Record the board minute that appointed each approver
  • Ask the Compliance agent to flag any approver whose appointment has lapsed
  • Review the list at every trustee meeting

A worked example: a community food charity

The charity has income of about £120,000 a year: individual donations, two restricted grants and a local authority contract. The volunteer treasurer spends evenings on the books. With agents: Finance records each donation and grant against its fund and reconciles the account daily; Customer Support sends thank-you messages and answers donors' questions about receipts and Gift Aid; Compliance holds the annual return date, which falls within ten months of the financial year end, the accounts deadline and the insurance renewal. In October the Chief of Staff's brief lists two decisions for the treasurer: a £2,400 van repair that would be paid from a restricted food grant, and 37 donations from new donors without Gift Aid declarations. The treasurer pays the repair from unrestricted funds and asks the agent to send a declaration request to the 37 donors.

By year end the treasurer's evenings are spent reviewing a short list rather than entering data, and the independent examiner receives fund-by-fund records with every transaction traced to its source. The agents have not changed who is accountable; they have made the trustees' oversight easier to carry out and easier to show.

Risks and limits

Agents can miscode a donation when a donor's note is ambiguous, or send a thank-you to someone who asked not to be contacted. Keep donor preferences in one place the agent reads, review fund coding monthly, and read the audit trail before each trustee meeting. Do not let an agent decide grants to beneficiaries or reply to safeguarding concerns. Our explainer on audit trails for AI agents covers what trustees should be able to see.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business account comes with five agents: a Chief of Staff, and Finance, Sales, Customer Support and Compliance agents, built and certified by Pryme Intelligence before they act. Each works inside a mandate with a ceiling; above it, the agent stops and a person decides, and every action is recorded with its source. Payments are released only below the line the trustees set. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's financial activities are carried out through regulated partners; Pryme does not claim a UK, US, Canadian or EU licence of its own.

Check that the account suits your charity's governing document and banking resolution, and see the Compliance agent and security.

Questions people ask

Can an AI agent claim Gift Aid for a charity?

It can check declarations and prepare the claim schedule. A responsible person should review and submit it.

Who is responsible if an agent makes a mistake?

The trustees remain responsible for the charity's affairs, which is why approvals and an audit trail matter.

When is the Charity Commission annual return due?

Within ten months of the end of the charity's financial year, for charities required to file. Check the Commission's guidance.

Can agents send fundraising emails?

They can send messages you approve, but marketing must follow UK GDPR, PECR and the Code of Fundraising Practice.
