Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

AI agents

AI agents for UK accountancy practices: running the firm itself

How a small UK accountancy practice can use AI agents for its own billing, records chasing, AML file checks and deadlines, with partners keeping sign-off.

The short answer

A small UK accountancy practice can use AI agents to run its own business: chasing clients for records, billing fixed-fee and ad hoc work, credit control, answering routine client questions and holding the firm's deadline calendar. Professional judgement, tax positions, filings and anti-money laundering decisions stay with qualified staff. With Making Tax Digital for Income Tax now live for higher-income sole traders and landlords, records chasing is where agents help most.

Accountants spend their days on other people's books and often neglect their own. A typical small practice has fixed-fee clients who send records late, ad hoc work that is never billed, and a deadline calendar that lives in practice software and in people's heads. AI agents can take the practice's own admin, freeing qualified staff for review and advice.

Why records chasing has become the bottleneck

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax applies from 6 April 2026 to sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000, with the threshold falling to £30,000 from April 2027 and £20,000 from April 2028, according to HMRC. Clients in scope must keep digital records and send quarterly updates. For a practice, that turns an annual records chase into a quarterly one. An agent that sends a polite, specific request ('your bank statements for July to September and the two supplier invoices we queried') on a schedule, and records what came back, removes a large share of the chasing workload.

Practice taskAgent roleQualified staff role

Engagement adminPrepare engagement letter drafts from templatesApprove scope, fees and terms
BillingFixed-fee instalments, ad hoc work from time recordsWrite-offs, fee changes
Credit controlReminders and payment statusStopping work, formal recovery
Firm calendarClient deadlines for filings, PII and supervision renewalsSign and submit filings

What the five agents cover in a practice

  • Customer Support answers clients' questions about what to send, when the next deadline is and what an invoice covers, from the practice's own records
  • Finance keeps the practice's books, issues invoices and matches receipts
  • Sales tracks proposals and the promises made when a client signed up, such as a fixed fee including payroll for up to five staff
  • Compliance holds the obligations calendar and checks that client due diligence files are complete before work starts
  • Chief of Staff gives the partner a short daily list of what needs a decision

The Compliance agent is useful here because it holds each obligation with an owner and refuses to mark anything done without evidence. It does not decide whether a client passes due diligence.

Anti-money laundering: help, not judgement

Accountancy service providers are within the Money Laundering Regulations 2017 and must be supervised by a professional body or by HMRC. The rules require risk assessment, customer due diligence, record keeping and reporting of suspicions. An agent can collect identity documents, check that each client file has what your policy requires, screen names and hold the review date for each client. Accepting a client, deciding a risk rating and making a suspicious activity report are decisions for the practice's money laundering reporting officer.

A worked example: a three-partner practice with 400 clients

The practice has 400 clients, of whom 90 are sole traders and landlords now in Making Tax Digital for Income Tax. Before agents, two staff spent most of the week before each quarterly deadline phoning for records. With agents: Customer Support sends each MTD client a specific request four weeks before the update is due, follows up at two weeks and one week, and logs what arrives. Clients who have not responded a week before the deadline appear on the partner's brief with their history. The Finance agent bills fixed fees monthly and flags 14 clients whose ad hoc work has not been invoiced. Compliance shows that six client files are missing an updated identity check. One partner's daily brief lists five decisions; everything else has been handled or queued.

The agent does not prepare the quarterly updates or judge whether figures are right. That stays with the practice's staff and its software.

A second gain is visibility. Because every request and reply is on the audit trail, the partners can see which clients are routinely late and price that into next year's fee, or decide to part company. That is a commercial decision the record supports rather than one made from memory at renewal time.

Risks and confidentiality

Clients trust accountants with sensitive financial data, and UK GDPR applies to all of it. Decide which records each agent may read: a records-chasing agent needs to know what is outstanding, not every transaction. Agents can also send a confusing request if your checklist is out of date, or chase a client who has already sent records by a different route. Review the first quarter's requests before letting them go out alone. Our explainer on whether AI can do your bookkeeping covers the limits on the books side.

Telling clients

Tell clients that some messages are prepared by an agent, how to reach a person, and what data is processed. A sentence in the engagement letter and the privacy notice usually covers it, but check your professional body's guidance.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business account comes with five agents: a Chief of Staff, and Finance, Sales, Customer Support and Compliance agents, built and certified by Pryme Intelligence before they act. Each works inside a mandate with a ceiling; above it, the agent stops and a person decides, and every action is recorded with its source. For a practice, that means the Finance agent releases payments only below the line the partners set, and the Compliance agent keeps the practice's own obligations register. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's financial activities are carried out through regulated partners; Pryme does not claim a UK, US, Canadian or EU licence of its own.

The account holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR with local details for each, and can be opened from any country. See the Chief of Staff, or open an account.

Questions people ask

Can an agent run client due diligence?

It can collect documents, screen names and check files are complete. Acceptance and risk ratings stay with the MLRO.

Who is supervised for AML in an accountancy practice?

The practice must be supervised by a professional body or HMRC. Check your supervisor's guidance.

Will clients mind receiving agent messages?

Most care about clarity and accuracy. Say which messages come from an agent and offer a direct line to a person.
