Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

AI agents

AI agents for private schools in Nigeria: fees, parents, staff

How a Nigerian private school can use AI agents for fee collection, parent queries on WhatsApp, staff pay and approvals, with children's data protected.

The short answer

A Nigerian private school can use AI agents to track fees by pupil, send polite reminders, answer parents' questions about balances and dates, prepare staff salary runs for approval and keep the school's renewals calendar. Decisions on fee waivers, sanctions for non-payment and anything about a child's welfare must stay with the proprietor or head. Children's data needs particular care under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

For most private schools the hardest weeks are resumption and the last weeks of term: parents asking for balances, bursars reconciling transfers that arrive with no reference, teachers waiting for salaries, and proprietors signing off everything by phone. AI agents can take much of the routine, provided the school sets clear rules about what they may say and do.

Where the bursary loses time

  • Matching transfers to pupils when parents pay with no reference or from a relative's account
  • Answering the same questions about balances, deadlines and payment details
  • Chasing part-payments across a term without souring the relationship
  • Preparing salaries and allowances, often with changes each month
  • Keeping track of approvals, levies and renewals with the state ministry and other bodies

Each of these follows rules the school already has, which is what makes it suitable for an agent.

What each agent does in a school

AgentSchool workStops and asks
FinanceMatches fee payments to pupils, keeps the fees ledger, prepares salary runsRelease of salaries and supplier payments
Customer SupportAnswers parents on WhatsApp, email or chat about balances and datesComplaints, welfare, waiver requests
SalesFollows up enquiries and admissions, holds what was promised to new parentsDiscounts and scholarships
ComplianceHolds dates for approvals, tax filings and staff recordsSigning filings
Chief of StaffBrings the proprietor a short list of decisionsEverything above a ceiling

Giving each family its own payment reference, or a dedicated account number through virtual accounts, makes matching far more reliable, because the Finance agent no longer has to guess who paid.

Talking to parents: tone and limits

Parents are customers, but the relationship is long and personal. Reminders should be specific, polite and never threatening. Set rules such as: no reminders on Sundays or public holidays, no mention of the child being sent home in an automated message, and any request for a payment plan sent to the bursar. The Customer Support agent answers only from the school's own fee schedule and policies, and passes anything it cannot source to a person. For schools that want to offer instalments formally, our guide to pay-later for private schools explains the options.

Children's data under the NDPA

The Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 requires a lawful basis for processing personal data and gives special protection to children, including the need for consent from a parent or guardian where consent is the basis. The Nigeria Data Protection Commission has also issued the General Application and Implementation Directive (GAID) 2025 with more detail on how the Act applies. In practice, the school should limit what each agent can see. A fees agent needs a pupil's name, class and balance, not medical notes or behaviour records. Check your obligations with an adviser, and see our explainer on data rights under the NDPA.

Staff pay and statutory deductions

Salaries in a school change more often than people expect: a new teacher mid-term, a deduction for an advance, an allowance for extra lessons. The Finance agent prepares each month's run from the approved staff list and flags every change from the previous month, so the proprietor sees exactly what is different before releasing it. Deductions such as PAYE, pension contributions and any others the school is required to make should follow rules confirmed with the school's accountant; the agent applies them consistently and records the remittance dates. Federal tax administration is now handled by the Nigeria Revenue Service, which replaced FIRS, while PAYE for employees is generally collected by the state where they live. Check current rules with an adviser.

A term calendar for the agents

  • Four weeks before resumption: fee schedules confirmed, reminders scheduled, references issued
  • Resumption week: payments matched daily, parent questions answered, payment plan requests sent to the bursar
  • Mid-term: reminders for outstanding balances, salary run prepared for approval
  • End of term: statements to parents, next term's fees published, staff records updated

A worked example: a 450-pupil school in Lagos

At resumption, 450 families owe first-term fees of different amounts. The bursar used to spend two weeks matching transfers. With unique references per family and the Finance agent matching payments as they land, unmatched items fall from dozens a day to a handful, which the bursar resolves. Customer Support answers 300 WhatsApp questions in the first week about balances and bank details, and sends 18 requests for payment plans to the bursar. In week four, the Chief of Staff's brief lists three decisions for the proprietor: a scholarship request, a staff salary run of ₦6.8m awaiting release, and a supplier invoice above the agreed price. The salary run is above the Finance agent's ceiling, so it waits for the proprietor, with the bursar as a second approver under the school's own policy.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business account comes with five agents: a Chief of Staff, and Finance, Sales, Customer Support and Compliance agents, built and certified by Pryme Intelligence before they act. Each works inside a mandate with a ceiling; above it, the agent stops and a person decides, and every action is recorded with its source. In Nigeria, Naira deposits are held by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank, licensed by the CBN. Salary runs can go through payroll, released only below the line the proprietor sets.

See the Finance agent for how release limits work.

Questions people ask

Can an agent send fee reminders to parents on WhatsApp?

Yes, within the tone and timing rules the school sets. Requests for payment plans and complaints should go to a person.

Can the agent stop a child attending for unpaid fees?

No. Any sanction is a decision for the proprietor or head, made with care for the child and the family.

What pupil data should a fees agent see?

Only what it needs, usually name, class, family reference and balance. Keep welfare and medical records out of its reach.

Can the agent pay teachers?

It prepares the salary run. Anything above the ceiling you set waits for a person, and many schools add a second approver for salaries.
