Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

AI agents

AI agents for Nigerian hotels and shortlet operators

How Nigerian hotels and shortlet operators use AI agents for bookings, guest messages, deposits, refunds and cleaner payments, with people in charge.

The short answer

AI agents help Nigerian hotels and shortlet operators answer guest enquiries at any hour, confirm bookings and deposits, match transfers, handle refunds within policy and pay cleaners and suppliers below a set limit. Refunds outside policy, damage disputes and guest safety stay with a person.

Hospitality in Nigeria runs at all hours. Guests in Lekki, Victoria Island, Abuja and Port Harcourt message at midnight to ask whether a flat is free, transfer a deposit and expect a reply in minutes. Diaspora visitors book from London or Houston in pounds or dollars. Owners juggle caretakers, cleaners, generators, diesel and a stream of small payments. Many operators run several units with a small team, which is where agents earn their place.

Where the work piles up

  • Enquiries. Availability, prices, location, power supply, parking, check-in times. The same questions, hundreds of times.
  • Bookings and deposits. Confirming a booking only when payment has actually arrived, not on a screenshot.
  • Caution fees. Holding, inspecting and returning damage deposits on time.
  • Refunds and cancellations. Applying the policy the same way to every guest.
  • Operations payments. Cleaners, laundry, diesel, repairs, often small and frequent.
  • Reviews and complaints. Fast responses before a problem becomes a bad review.

What the agents do

AgentTasksStops at
Customer supportAnswers enquiries from your listings and house rules; confirms bookings; sends check-in detailsComplaints about safety, damage disputes, refunds outside policy
FinanceMatches deposits and balances to bookings; returns caution fees after inspection sign-off; pays cleaners and suppliersPayments above your limit
SalesFollows up enquiries that did not book; manages corporate and long-stay quotesDiscounts above band
ComplianceKeeps licence, tax and data protection deadlines; checks guest data handlingAny regulatory judgement

A worked example

Figures are an example only. An operator runs eight shortlet apartments in Lekki at ₦120,000 to ₦180,000 a night, with a ₦100,000 caution fee. The owner's rules: confirm only on a credit in the account; full refund if cancelled 72 hours before check-in, 50% after; caution fees returned within 48 hours of checkout if the caretaker reports no damage; supplier payments up to ₦150,000 released automatically.

  1. At 23:40 a guest asks about a two-bedroom flat for the weekend. The agent replies with availability, the price and house rules, and sends payment details.
  2. The guest sends a screenshot of a transfer. The agent waits for the credit to appear before confirming; it arrives four minutes later and the booking is confirmed.
  3. A guest cancels 30 hours before check-in. The policy gives 50%. The agent explains the policy, processes the 50% refund under its mandate and records the case.
  4. After a checkout, the caretaker reports a broken lamp. The agent holds the caution fee and sends the owner the photos and the caretaker's note. The owner decides on a ₦25,000 deduction and the agent returns the balance with an explanation.
  5. The laundry invoice of ₦96,000 is paid under the limit; a ₦420,000 generator repair waits for approval.

Matching guest transfers is easier when each booking has its own reference or account. See our guide to matching customer transfers with an AI agent.

Consumer rules and guest data

Guests are consumers. The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act gives consumers rights, including to clear information about goods and services and to fair treatment, and the FCCPC publishes a summary of those rights. Publish your cancellation and caution fee policy before booking, and have the agent quote it word for word. Guests' names, phone numbers and identity documents are personal data under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023; collect only what you need, keep it secure and delete it on a set schedule. Our guide to refunds and disputes with an AI support agent goes further. This is general information, not legal advice.

Running several units

Operators with many apartments, or a hotel with many rooms, gain most from a single view across the property. An agent can show occupancy, revenue and outstanding balances per unit, the cleaning and maintenance schedule, and which caretakers have submitted checkout reports. It can also flag patterns, such as a unit with repeated complaints about power, so that the owner fixes the cause rather than refunding guests one by one. Each caretaker or cleaner sees only the tasks and bookings for the units they manage, which keeps guest data limited to those who need it.

Diaspora and foreign guests

Guests visiting from abroad often prefer to pay in pounds, dollars or euros. Accepting payment in those currencies avoids asking them to find naira and can widen your market. Our guide on how to get paid in Nigeria compares the options. The agent records each booking in the currency paid and shows the owner a combined position.

Where a person stays in charge

  • Guest safety, security incidents and emergencies.
  • Damage assessments and deductions from caution fees.
  • Refunds and goodwill gestures outside policy.
  • Disputes, chargebacks and threats of bad reviews.
  • Pricing strategy for peak periods such as December.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme Business holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR with local account details, so foreign guests can pay in their own currency (see multicurrency accounts). The Customer Support agent answers from your policies and escalates what they do not cover; the Finance agent matches receipts and releases payments only below your line. In Nigeria, naira deposits are held by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank, licensed by the CBN.

Questions people ask

Can an AI agent confirm bookings for a shortlet?

Yes, when it can see the payment arrive in the account. It should not confirm on a screenshot or SMS alone.

Can the agent decide on caution fee deductions?

It should hold the fee and send the evidence to a person. Damage assessment is a judgement that stays with the owner or manager.

What about guests who message in the middle of the night?

Agents answer at any hour from your policies. Safety or emergency messages should go straight to an on-call person.

Do I need to tell guests their data is processed by AI?

Under the NDPA you should be clear about how personal data is used. A short privacy notice at booking covers most needs; take advice for your specifics.
