Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

AI agents

AI agents for Canadian contractors: T5018, GST/HST and quotes

T5018 subcontractor reporting, GST/HST on invoices, quotes, change orders and US-dollar jobs: where AI agents help Canadian contractors and trades.

The short answer

Canadian contractors and trades can use AI agents to track payments to subcontractors for T5018 reporting, apply GST/HST to invoices from rules confirmed with an accountant, draft quotes and change orders, chase overdue invoices and hold US-dollar payments from cross-border jobs. Decisions on worker status, tax treatment in unclear cases, pricing and disputes should stay with the owner and their adviser.

Construction businesses in Canada carry a particular reporting duty: the Contract Payment Reporting System, under which businesses whose primary activity is construction report payments made to subcontractors for construction services on T5018 slips. Add GST/HST on every invoice, provincial differences, change orders on site and, for some firms, jobs paid in US dollars, and the admin quickly outgrows a spreadsheet.

This is a general summary, not tax advice. Check the CRA guidance and talk to your accountant.

T5018 in general terms

PointGeneral position (check CRA guidance)
Who reportsBusinesses whose primary activity is construction, generally meaning most of their business income comes from construction
What is reportedPayments to subcontractors for construction services, on T5018 slips with a summary
ThresholdGenerally payments of $500 or more to a subcontractor in the reporting period
DeadlineGenerally six months after the end of the reporting period
RecordsSubcontractor names, addresses, business or social insurance numbers, and amounts paid

An agent fits this well because T5018 reporting is mostly about collecting the right details at the start and totalling payments accurately at the end. The difficulty is usually missing information: a subcontractor whose business number was never recorded, or payments that mixed services and goods.

  • Subcontractor details collected before the first payment, including the business number.
  • Every payment tagged to the subcontractor and to construction services where applicable.
  • A running total per subcontractor through the reporting period, with those over the threshold listed.
  • Slips and the summary prepared for the owner or accountant to review and file.

GST/HST on contractor invoices

Most contractors register for GST/HST once their taxable supplies exceed the small supplier threshold, which CRA sets out in its guidance. The rate charged depends on where the supply is made, which matters for firms working across provinces. An agent can apply the correct rate from rules your accountant has confirmed, show your registration number on invoices and track input tax credits on purchases.

  • Rate applied by place of supply, from a confirmed rule table.
  • Registration number and required details shown on each invoice.
  • Input tax credits on materials and subcontractor invoices recorded with the supporting invoice.
  • Unusual cases, such as work on new housing or for exempt customers, sent to the accountant.

Quotes, change orders and getting paid

Change orders are where contractors lose margin. A client asks for an extra outlet or a different finish on site, the crew does it, and nobody writes it down. An agent that records each change order the moment it is agreed, prices it from your rates, and sends written confirmation to the client turns a verbal request into a billable line.

  • Quotes drafted from your rates; anything outside your band approved by you.
  • Change orders recorded with date, scope, price and who agreed.
  • Progress invoices sent on agreed milestones, with any holdback recorded as your contract and provincial rules require.
  • Overdue invoices chased politely on a schedule you set.

Provincial prompt-payment and holdback rules differ, and some provinces have specific construction legislation. Ask your lawyer which apply to your contracts. The explainer on chasing invoices well applies to contractors too.

Holdback in particular needs careful records, because amounts are retained for a period and released later. An agent that tracks each holdback by job and release date stops it being forgotten in the busy season.

Cross-border jobs and client data

Contractors near the border, or working for US clients, are often paid in US dollars. Converting on arrival at whatever rate applies that day can cost more than the margin on a small job. Holding USD and paying US-dollar costs from it, then converting the rest when a person decides, keeps that choice with the owner.

Client files contain names, addresses, access codes and sometimes photos of homes. Under PIPEDA, private-sector businesses must protect personal information and use it only for the purposes they identified. Give each agent access only to what it needs, and keep access codes out of general support records.

Worked example

Example only, invented figures. A renovation contractor in Ontario reviews its year-end.

T5018
Eleven subcontractors paid this year; nine above the threshold. One is missing a business number; request sent. Slips prepared for the accountant.
GST/HST
All invoices carry 13% HST for Ontario work; one job in Quebec used the rule table for that province and was flagged for the accountant to check.
Change orders
27 recorded this year, CAD 18,600 billed that would previously have been missed.
USD
A Michigan client paid USD 14,000; held in USD and used for a US supplier invoice. The owner chose to convert the balance.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business account comes with five agents built and certified by Pryme Intelligence. The Finance agent tracks subcontractor payments and invoices, the Sales agent records quotes and change orders, and nothing is paid above your ceiling without approval. The account can be opened from any country and holds USD alongside GBP, EUR and NGN; see multicurrency. Outside Nigeria, Pryme works through regulated partners. You can open an account for your firm.

Questions people ask

Who has to file T5018 slips in Canada?

Generally, businesses whose primary activity is construction must report payments to subcontractors for construction services. Check CRA's T5018 guidance for the definitions and threshold.

When are T5018 slips due?

Generally within six months after the end of the reporting period. Confirm the date for your chosen period with CRA guidance.

Can an AI agent charge the right GST/HST rate?

It can apply rates from a rule table your accountant has confirmed, based on where the supply is made. Unclear cases should go to the accountant.

Can an agent decide if a worker is a subcontractor?

No. Worker status has payroll and tax consequences and should be decided by the owner with advice.
