Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

AI agent to flag duplicate supplier invoices

Duplicate invoices slip through when suppliers bill in two currencies or resend with new numbers. The rules an AI agent should use to hold, not reject.

The short answer

An AI agent can catch duplicate supplier invoices if it checks more than the invoice number: the same supplier (matched on registration number, not just name), the same amount within a date window, the same amount in a different currency, the same bank account under a different supplier name, and a proforma followed by a final invoice. Flagged invoices should be held for a person to review rather than rejected, with known recurring charges such as rent on an allow list.

Paying the same invoice twice is one of the commonest avoidable losses in a business that buys from Nigeria, and one of the hardest to recover: a supplier abroad who has been paid twice has little reason to send it back quickly. Most duplicates are not fraud. They come from resent emails, proformas paid and then invoiced again, or the same bill entered by staff in London and Lagos. An agent that checks every incoming invoice against what has already been paid or approved stops most of them.

Why simple checks miss Nigerian duplicates

  • Supplier names vary: "Adebayo Stores Ltd", "Adebayo Stores Limited" and "ADEBAYO STORES" can be one company.
  • Invoice numbers are sometimes handwritten, reused each year, or missing.
  • A supplier may invoice in dollars, then reissue in naira when asked.
  • A proforma is paid to release goods, then the commercial invoice arrives for the same order.
  • The same costs are entered twice by people in two offices.

Duplicate rules to give the agent

RuleWhat it comparesStrength
Same supplier and invoice numberSupplier ID (RC or BN number) plus invoice numberStrong
Same Invoice Reference NumberNRS e-invoice IRN, where the supplier issues e-invoicesStrong
Same supplier, amount and date windowSupplier ID, gross amount, invoice dates within, say, 30 daysMedium
Same amount in another currencySupplier ID, amount converted at your rate within a toleranceMedium
Proforma and finalOrder or PO reference on bothMedium
Same bank account, different supplierAccount number and bank across supplier recordsStrong signal of error or fraud
Same line items and quantitiesDescription and quantity, ignoring header detailsWeak, useful as a tie-breaker

Using the registration number as the supplier key is what makes the first rule work. Mondaq's review of the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 (28 May 2026) says a VAT invoice under section 153 must show the supplier's tax ID, incorporation or registration number and invoice number, and CAMA section 729 requires companies to show their RC number on business documents (Templars, May 2025). For large taxpayers, Nairametrics (19 July 2026) reports that buyers are to accept only e-invoices carrying a valid Invoice Reference Number, a unique key the agent can rely on.

Allow lists

Rent, retainer fees, software subscriptions and security services often repeat the same amount every month. Put them on an allow list with the expected frequency, so the agent flags a second charge in the same month but not the normal monthly one.

Hold, do not reject

A flagged invoice should go into a held state with the reason shown and the matching earlier invoice linked. A person then decides: release, reject, or ask the supplier. Rejecting automatically creates its own problem, because a real second order at the same price will be missed and the supplier will chase. Keep a log of each decision; it shows your accountant and auditor that the control runs, and it teaches you which rules produce false alarms.

Worked example

Example only. On 3 September a Lagos supplier (RC on file) invoices $2,400 for packaging, invoice 117. On 19 September the same supplier sends invoice 121 for ₦3,600,000 for "packaging, August order".

Rule triggered
Same amount in another currency: ₦3,600,000 at an illustrative ₦1,500 to $1 is $2,400
Supporting signal
Both reference the August order
Agent action
Hold invoice 121, link to invoice 117, ask the reviewer to confirm with the supplier
Outcome
Supplier confirms 121 replaces 117 at the buyer's request; reviewer voids 117 and approves 121

Without the currency rule both would have been paid, a $2,400 loss on an order the supplier billed once.

Recovering a duplicate that got through

If a duplicate is paid, write to the supplier at once with both invoice numbers and payment references, and ask whether they will refund or hold the amount as a credit against the next order. A credit is often quicker with a regular supplier, but record it as a debt owed to you until it is used, and add it to the agent's checks so the next invoice from that supplier is matched against it.

What to check first

  1. Clean the supplier list: one record per legal entity, keyed on RC or BN number, with old name variants merged.
  2. Decide your date window and currency tolerance with your accountant.
  3. Build the allow list for recurring charges.
  4. Run the agent over the last 12 months of paid invoices; the duplicates it finds there show what to fix.
  5. Make held invoices part of the weekly payment review.

Duplicate checks belong alongside supplier verification; see checking invoices from Nigerian suppliers are genuine and human approval for payments an AI agent prepares.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme Business Accounts include a Finance agent, built by Pryme Intelligence, that prepares work such as invoice checks for a person to review; payments above a ceiling you set need approval, and actions are recorded. Paying from the same account you receive invoices into, with bulk payouts for supplier runs, keeps the paid history the agent checks against in one place.

Questions people ask

How do AI tools detect duplicate invoices?

By comparing new invoices with paid and approved ones on supplier, invoice number, amount, date, currency and bank details, and flagging close matches for review.

Should duplicates be rejected automatically?

No. Hold them for a person; some apparent duplicates are real repeat orders.

What is the best key for a Nigerian supplier?

The CAC registration number (RC or BN), which companies must show on business documents, rather than the name.

Do Nigerian e-invoices help?

Yes, where issued. Each carries an Invoice Reference Number, a unique key for the duplicate check.
