Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

AGSMEIS loan: is it still open? Status as at 2026

AGSMEIS was a CBN intervention scheme. New lending under CBN schemes was suspended in December 2023. What that means for applicants and borrowers.

The short answer

No. AGSMEIS was one of the Central Bank of Nigeria's development-finance schemes, and the CBN suspended new loans under all its existing intervention schemes in December 2023, so there is no open AGSMEIS application window in 2026. People who already borrowed still owe what their loan agreement says, and anyone offering a "new AGSMEIS portal" for a fee should be treated as a scam.

What AGSMEIS was

The Agri-Business/Small and Medium Enterprises Investment Scheme (AGSMEIS) was set up under the Bankers' Committee and run as part of the CBN's development-finance programmes, with the CBN listing it among its schemes on its development finance pages. It aimed to give small businesses, especially in agriculture and related trades, low-cost loans with long repayment periods. Many applicants went through a short entrepreneurship training and then applied through NIRSAL Microfinance Bank, which handled a large share of AGSMEIS applications and disbursements.

Because the scheme was advertised heavily and the online process was simple, AGSMEIS became one of the best-known "government loans" in Nigeria. It also became one of the names fraudsters still use most.

Why it is closed to new applicants

Two public statements settle the question:

  1. On 12 October 2023 the CBN Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, said there was "a need to pull the CBN back from direct development finance interventions" (reported by TheCable).
  2. In December 2023 the CBN formally suspended new loans under all its existing development intervention schemes and committed to recovering funds already disbursed (reported by Leadership, January 2026).

AGSMEIS was one of those schemes. We found no CBN or NIRSAL MFB announcement reopening it. In January 2026 the Federal Ministry of Finance said it would take over the CBN's former development-finance role and write a new guideline, with institutions such as the Bank of Industry at the centre. Any future programme is likely to carry a new name and a new route, so a link promising "AGSMEIS 2026 registration" is not credible.

If you already have an AGSMEIS loan

Closure to new lending does not cancel existing loans. The CBN said it would recover money disbursed under its schemes. If you borrowed:

  • Find your offer letter and repayment schedule. It states the rate, moratorium and monthly instalment.
  • Ask NIRSAL MFB, in writing, for a statement of your balance and arrears.
  • Pay only into the account named by the bank in writing, never into a personal account suggested by a caller.
  • Get a written letter of non-indebtedness when you finish; you may need it later. See our guide to repayment and clearance letters.
  • If you defaulted, expect it to be reported to credit bureaus; settling or agreeing a plan is the way to repair that record.

Our separate guide on NIRSAL MFB AGSMEIS repayment and recovery covers the practical steps in more depth.

Worked example: why an old balance grows

Example only, with assumed figures. Suppose a borrower took ₦1,000,000 at an assumed 9% a year over 36 months after a moratorium, and stopped paying with ₦500,000 still outstanding. If the agreement allows interest to keep running at 9% a year, a further 12 months adds ₦45,000 (₦500,000 × 9%), so the balance becomes ₦545,000 before any default charges the contract permits. The exact sum depends on your agreement, which is why the written statement matters.

What to look at instead

NeedWhere to look in 2026
Small business loan, registered businessBank of Industry or a bank SME desk using development-bank funds
Farm financeBank of Agriculture, NIRSAL MFB products, state input schemes; see farm loans in 2026
Very small or informal traderState schemes and grants; check our SME funding directory
Consumer purchaseCREDICORP-backed lenders, if eligible

Why a closed scheme keeps resurfacing online

AGSMEIS still draws searches years after new lending stopped, and that demand is what fraudsters feed on. Old blog posts from the years when applications were open still rank in search results and are shared without dates. Some pages copy the original training-and-application steps word for word and add a payment step at the end. Others claim a "second phase" or a "relaunch" with a deadline a few days away, which pushes people to pay before checking.

The simplest test is the date and the domain. A real reopening would be announced by the CBN, NIRSAL MFB or the Federal Ministry of Finance on their own websites and reported by the national press with the official's name. If the only evidence is a WhatsApp broadcast, a Facebook post or a site with a free domain, it is not a government programme.

Questions worth asking NIRSAL MFB if you applied but were never paid

  • Was my application recorded, and under what reference?
  • Was it approved, declined or simply not processed before the suspension?
  • Is any money or loan record attached to my BVN? A loan you never received should not appear on your credit report.

Spotting a fake AGSMEIS offer

  • It asks for a "form fee", "processing fee" or "insurance" paid to an individual.
  • It recruits through WhatsApp, Telegram or Facebook groups with a deadline.
  • The website is not on a government (.gov.ng) or the lender's known domain.
  • It promises a loan amount before seeing any document from you.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not run AGSMEIS or any government scheme. If you are applying elsewhere, a lender will want bank statements; you can produce verifiable statements through VerifyDoc.ai from your Pryme account so they can confirm the document is unaltered.

Questions people ask

Is AGSMEIS still giving loans in 2026?

No. The CBN suspended new loans under its intervention schemes in December 2023, and we found no announcement reopening AGSMEIS.

What is the new AGSMEIS portal?

There is no official new AGSMEIS portal that we could find. Sites asking for fees to register for AGSMEIS should be treated as scams.

Do I still have to repay my AGSMEIS loan?

Yes. The scheme closing to new loans does not cancel existing ones; the CBN said it would recover funds. Ask NIRSAL MFB for a written balance.

What replaced AGSMEIS?

No direct replacement has been announced. The Ministry of Finance said in January 2026 it would lead development finance through institutions such as BOI.
