Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Afriex to Nigeria: how a transfer is paid in naira

How an Afriex transfer reaches a Nigerian bank account in naira, what you pay with, the daily cap it states and what to check before you send.

The short answer

Afriex pays Nigerian recipients by sending naira to their bank account through the app's "Send to bank" option, after you fund the transfer with a debit card; its FAQ says credit cards, prepaid cards and PayPal are not accepted. Afriex states a sending cap of 3,000 USD a day, shows the rate and fee on the Send screen before you confirm, and requires identity verification before you can send.

How the money moves

Afriex is an app for sending money from abroad to Africa. Its FAQ (read in October 2026) lists sending from the USA, the UK, Canada and several European countries (France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Romania and Belgium). For Nigeria, the payout route the FAQ describes is Send to bank: you add the recipient's Nigerian bank as a receiving bank and the money lands in that account. Mobile money payout is listed only for Ghana, Kenya and Uganda, so a Nigerian recipient needs a bank account.

The money arrives in naira. That is not only Afriex's choice. The Central Bank of Nigeria requires licensed international money transfer operators (IMTOs) to pay recipients in Nigeria in naira, and a CBN circular of 24 March 2026, effective 1 May 2026, routes all IMTO payouts through naira settlement accounts at authorised dealer banks (summary by Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie, March 2026). Afriex Inc appears on the CBN's published list of licensed IMTOs. For the wider rules, see how CBN rules shape remittance payouts.

Paying for the transfer

  • Debit card only. The FAQ says "At this time Afriex only accepts debit cards". Credit cards, prepaid cards and PayPal are not accepted.
  • Pick the currency. On the Send screen you choose the destination by its flag, enter the amount and see the rate and fee before you confirm.
  • Delivery notice. Afriex says it emails you when the funds are delivered.
  • Failed transfers. An Afriex blog post (26 July 2023) says money from a failed transfer is refunded to your Afriex wallet for that destination country, from which you can resend; the FAQ gives 1 to 7 business days for refunds handled by its team.

Verification before your first send

The FAQ says identity verification is required by regulation before you can use the service. It does not publish a document list on the page we read, so the app itself is where you will see what it asks for. In practice, regulated money transfer firms ask for a government photo ID and often a selfie to match it, and may ask more questions as amounts grow. Use your legal name exactly as it appears on your ID, because that is the name the transfer goes out under.

Limits

Afriex states that you can send up to 3,000 USD per day and that you can ask for a higher limit by emailing hello@afriex.co. It does not give a monthly or per-transfer figure on the FAQ. If you need to send more than the daily cap, ask before the date you need the money to land, not on the day.

What the recipient needs

The recipient does not need the app. You need their full name as it appears on the bank account, the bank's name and the 10-digit account (NUBAN) number. Ask them to read the account name from their own banking app, because Nigerian banks check incoming transfers against the name on the account. Our guide to details needed to send to a Nigerian bank covers the checks in more depth.

Worked example

Example, with a made-up rate: you send 500 USD to your sister's account. The Send screen shows a rate of ₦1,400 per dollar and a fee of 3 USD. Your card is charged 503 USD and she receives ₦700,000 (500 × 1,400). If you are planning several transfers in one day, the 3,000 USD daily cap applies to the total. These numbers are illustrations only; the app shows the actual rate and fee.

What to check first

  1. Confirm you are sending from a country Afriex supports and that you have a debit card in your own name.
  2. Complete verification before the day you need to send.
  3. Enter the recipient's bank and account number, and compare the name shown with what they read from their app.
  4. Read the rate, fee and naira amount on the Send screen before you confirm.
  5. Keep the delivery email as your record. Afriex says that once a transfer is delivered, it cannot be cancelled or refunded.

Where Pryme fits

If you also want to hold naira and other currencies yourself, a Pryme Personal Account holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR with local details for each, and can be opened from any country. Converting with Swap or using Send, the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve. Pryme is a technology company, not a bank; naira deposits are held by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank, regulated by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit.

Questions people ask

Can I use a credit card on Afriex to send to Nigeria?

No. Afriex's FAQ says it only accepts debit cards, and that credit cards, prepaid cards and PayPal are not accepted.

How much can I send to Nigeria with Afriex in a day?

The FAQ states up to 3,000 USD per day. You can ask for a higher limit by emailing hello@afriex.co.

Can my family in Nigeria receive Afriex in dollars?

No. CBN rules require licensed money transfer operators to pay recipients in Nigeria in naira, and Afriex pays to a Nigerian bank account.

Does my recipient need the Afriex app?

No. They need a Nigerian bank account. You enter their bank and account number in the app.
