Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Solar vs AEDC grid in Abuja: cost per kWh (example)

A labelled worked example comparing a home solar system's cost per kWh with AEDC Band A and Band B tariffs, and the inputs that change the answer.

The short answer

Grid power on AEDC costs ₦209.50 per kWh on Band A and ₦63.35 on Band B non-MD under NERC's July 2025 order for AEDC. A home solar system's cost per kWh is its total lifetime cost divided by the units you actually use from it; in our labelled example it comes to about ₦205 per kWh, close to Band A and well above Band B.

The question most Abuja households ask is not 'is solar good' but 'is solar cheaper than what I pay AEDC'. The fair way to answer is to put both on the same footing: naira per kilowatt-hour (kWh). The grid side is easy, because NERC publishes AEDC's tariff. The solar side depends on quotes you get from installers, so we show the method with clearly labelled assumptions you can replace with your own numbers.

The grid side: what AEDC charges per kWh

NERC's July 2025 Supplementary Order for AEDC (ORDER/NERC/2025/059), effective 1 July 2025 and the latest AEDC order we found on NERC's site as at October 2026, sets these non-MD rates:

BandMinimum supply per dayTariff (₦/kWh)
A20 hours209.50
B16 hours63.35
C12 hours51.79
D8 hours33.95
E4 hours33.95

The order says Bands B to E remain frozen at the rates payable since December 2022, subject to government policy. Band A moved during 2024: the same order's history table shows ₦225.00 in April 2024, ₦206.80 in May and June 2024, and ₦209.50 from July 2024. Tariffs can change by a new order, so check today's figure on AEDC's tariff checker at infocheck.abujaelectricity.com or NERC's website. See AEDC tariff today for how to read the order.

The solar side: how to work out cost per kWh

A solar system's cost per kWh is:

Two things matter most. First, what you pay up front, including the battery, because the battery is usually the costliest part and wears out first. Second, how many units you actually use. Panels that produce power while nobody is home and the battery is full are wasted, so count usable kWh, not the rated output.

Worked example

Example only. Every solar figure below is an assumption chosen to show the arithmetic, not a market price or a quote. Get at least three written quotes before deciding.

Item (assumed)Amount
Installed system: panels, inverter, lithium battery, wiring₦4,000,000
Battery replacement in year 6₦1,500,000
Maintenance, ₦50,000 a year for 10 years₦500,000
Total 10-year cost₦6,000,000
Usable solar energy: 8 kWh a day × 365 × 10 years29,200 kWh
Cost per kWh (₦6,000,000 ÷ 29,200)about ₦205

On these assumptions, solar costs about the same per kWh as AEDC Band A (₦209.50) and more than three times Band B non-MD (₦63.35). For a Band D or E home, the grid is far cheaper per unit, but supply is only 4 to 8 hours a day, so the real comparison is often solar against a generator, not against the grid.

How sensitive the answer is

Usable kWh a day (assumed)10-year kWhCost per kWh at ₦6m total
518,250about ₦329
829,200about ₦205
1036,500about ₦164

The same system is cheap per unit if you use most of what it makes, and expensive if you do not. That is why a home that is empty all day often does better with a smaller battery and grid charging, while a home office running all day gets more value from the panels.

What the example leaves out

  • The cost of the money. ₦4 million paid today could earn interest or pay down debt. If you borrow for solar, add the interest to the total.
  • VAT on the grid side. NERC's tariff table carries no VAT line; your token receipt shows any VAT applied, which raises the grid's real cost per kWh.
  • Future tariff changes. If Band A rises, solar compares better; a frozen Band B rate keeps the grid cheaper.
  • Generator running costs. If you run a generator during outages, add fuel at the current pump price, servicing and noise to the grid side of your comparison.
  • Reliability. Hours without power have a cost that does not show up in naira per kWh: spoiled food, lost work, a child studying by torchlight.

What to check first

  1. Your band and feeder (on your bill or token receipt, or via AEDC).
  2. Your real daily use: read the meter at the same time on several days.
  3. Three written solar quotes listing battery type, capacity and warranty.
  4. Which loads you want on solar: lights, fans, fridge and phones need far less than air conditioners.

Where Pryme fits

Many households save for solar in stages rather than borrow. A Fixed or Flexible Savings Box (/p/boxes) keeps that money separate from spending; the rate is shown in the app. Meanwhile you can keep buying AEDC tokens in the Pryme app (/p/electricity). Our guide to saving for an inverter or solar setup covers the saving plan.

Questions people ask

Is solar cheaper than AEDC in Abuja?

It depends on your band and how much solar power you actually use. In our labelled example solar costs about ₦205 per kWh, close to AEDC Band A (₦209.50) and well above Band B (₦63.35).

How much is AEDC per kWh now?

Under NERC's July 2025 order for AEDC, Band A is ₦209.50 and Band B non-MD ₦63.35 per kWh. Check AEDC's tariff checker for today's figure.

How many kWh does a house use per day in Abuja?

It varies widely. Read your meter at the same time on several days to get your own average before sizing any solar system.

Should a Band A customer in Abuja buy solar?

Only if the lifetime cost per kWh you calculate from real quotes beats ₦209.50 or the outages cost you enough to justify it. Run the numbers with your own usage.
