Ten years, one trunk

2018OjirehPrime Card

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Which states does AEDC cover? FCT, Kogi, Niger, Nasarawa

AEDC serves the FCT, Kogi, Nasarawa and most of Niger State. How to confirm your town is on AEDC, and which office and Forum handle your complaints.

The short answer

Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) serves the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, Nasarawa and most parts of Niger State. NERC's July 2025 tariff order for AEDC lists feeders in towns such as Lokoja, Ajaokuta, Minna, Bida, Kontagora, Suleja, Keffi and Lafia. Confirm your DisCo from your meter, receipt or bill before buying a token.

The AEDC franchise area

AEDC's area is commonly described as the FCT, Kogi, Nasarawa and most parts of Niger State, which is how LawPadi's AEDC complaints guide sets it out. The word "most" matters for Niger: parts of the state near its borders may fall under a neighbouring DisCo, so a reader there should confirm before assuming.

NERC's own documents support the spread. The appendices of the July 2025 Supplementary Order for AEDC (ORDER/NERC/2025/059) list feeders in these places, among others:

StateTowns with AEDC feeders named in the July 2025 order
FCTGarki, Wuse, Wuye and other Abuja districts
KogiLokoja, Ajaokuta
NigerMinna, Bida, Kontagora, Suleja
NasarawaKeffi, Lafia, Akwanga

This is not a full list of towns; it shows where feeders appear in the appendices we read. If your town is not shown, it may still be served by AEDC.

How to confirm your DisCo

  1. Look at the meter and old receipts. The DisCo's name or logo usually appears on the meter label and on token receipts.
  2. Try your meter number in a vending channel. Most bank and fintech apps return the customer name when you enter the meter number under the correct DisCo. If AEDC returns your name, your meter is on AEDC's system.
  3. Ask AEDC. Use the official contact channels in our AEDC customer care guide and give your address and meter number.
  4. Check your feeder. Your band and tariff follow the feeder. See how to check your AEDC feeder.

One tariff order, four states

NERC issues one tariff order for AEDC that covers the whole franchise area. A Band A customer in Lokoja pays the same AEDC Band A rate as one in Wuse: ₦209.50 per kWh under the July 2025 order. Band B non-MD is ₦63.35 across the area. What differs is which band your feeder is on, so two towns can see very different bills for the same use.

Some states elsewhere in Nigeria now regulate their own electricity markets. The NERC order we read treats AEDC's whole area as under NERC's tariff, but if your state announces its own regulator, check which body's rules apply before you complain.

Paying from outside the area

You do not need to be in the FCT, Kogi, Niger or Nasarawa to buy a token for an AEDC meter. Bank and fintech vending channels work wherever you are, so someone in Lagos or abroad can pay for a parent's or tenant's electricity. What matters is entering the meter number under AEDC, not another DisCo, and checking that the customer name returned is the right one. See every AEDC token channel compared.

Where to take a complaint

  • First, AEDC. LawPadi lists AEDC's 24/7 line as 08039070070, WhatsApp 08152141414 or 08152151515, email customercare@abujaelectricity.com, and a customer office at No. 1 Ziguinchor Street, off IBB Way, Wuse Zone 4. Confirm these on AEDC's website before you call.
  • Then, the NERC Forum office. LawPadi lists the Abuja Forum office at No. 14, Road 131, Gwarinpa, phone 0814-686-2225, email abujaforum@nerc.gov.ng. Readers in other states should check our Forum office directory for a nearer office.
  • Finally, NERC. If unhappy with the Forum's decision, petition NERC's complaints unit at complaints@nerc.gov.ng.

Why your band can differ from a nearby town

Supply in AEDC's area depends on the transmission station and feeder serving you, which is why NERC's order names feeders by station, for example the Ajaokuta station feeding Lokoja or the Apo and Central Area stations in Abuja. Some feeders in the order are committed to Band A hours; many others are Band B to E. The table below shows what each band is committed to deliver and costs under the July 2025 order, for non-MD customers:

BandMinimum average supplyTariff (₦/kWh)
A20 hours a day209.50
B16 hours a day63.35
C12 hours a day51.79
D8 hours a day33.95
E4 hours a day33.95

Example only: a household using 150 kWh a month would pay 150 × ₦209.50 = ₦31,425 on a Band A feeder and 150 × ₦63.35 = ₦9,502.50 on Band B, before VAT and charges. Knowing your feeder is therefore as important as knowing your DisCo.

If you are moving into the area

Before you rent or build, ask the landlord or neighbours which feeder and band the property is on, and whether it is metered. An unmetered property is billed on estimates; see the cap on AEDC estimated bills. A new build needs a first connection; see new connection steps.

Where Pryme fits

Wherever you are in AEDC's area, you can pay for electricity from the Pryme app; see electricity bills. Spaces, Pryme's merchant ecosystem, currently operates in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, so Abuja is the only part of AEDC's area it covers.

Questions people ask

Is Lokoja under AEDC?

Yes. NERC's July 2025 AEDC tariff order lists AEDC feeders in Lokoja and Ajaokuta in Kogi State.

Which DisCo covers Minna?

AEDC. Minna, Bida, Kontagora and Suleja appear among AEDC feeder locations in NERC's July 2025 order.

Does AEDC cover all of Niger State?

It covers most parts of Niger State. Confirm from your meter, receipt or AEDC if you live near the state's borders.

Is Keffi electricity AEDC?

Yes. Keffi, Lafia and Akwanga in Nasarawa State appear as AEDC feeder locations in NERC's July 2025 order.
