Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Australia

What the 100-point ID check means with a Nigerian passport

How 100-point identity checks work in Australia, where a Nigerian passport fits, which documents add points, and how to avoid name-mismatch problems.

The short answer

A 100-point check is a way organisations in Australia confirm identity: each document carries a points value and you show enough to reach 100. Your Nigerian passport is usually the main document, but you normally need others with it, such as your visa, an Australian bank card, a Medicare card or a utility bill. Each organisation sets its own list, so ask for it before you go.

New arrivals meet the 100-point check when opening accounts, signing leases, applying for jobs or getting a licence. It can feel like a test designed for people who already live here. For a Nigerian passport holder the problem is usually not the passport itself, but having enough supporting documents with matching names.

How the points work

The idea is simple. Documents that are hard to forge and carry a photo, such as a passport, are worth the most. Documents that show you live and transact in Australia, such as a bank card or a utility bill, add smaller amounts. You add them up to 100. The values are not one national schedule: each organisation or regulator using a points test sets its own list.

Typical document groups

GroupExamplesRole for a Nigerian newcomer
Primary photo IDPassportYour Nigerian passport, current and undamaged
Immigration statusVisa grant noticeShows lawful stay; often requested with the passport
Australian secondary IDDriver licence, Medicare card, bank cardBuilds up after arrival
Address evidenceUtility bill, bank statement, leaseComes once you have a home and accounts

The newcomer's catch, and how to get round it

In your first weeks you have a passport and almost nothing else. The way out is to start with organisations that rely on the passport alone or verify electronically, and use what they give you to build points elsewhere.

  1. Bank account first. Commonwealth Bank, for example, asks for an original passport for migrants and an identity check at a branch within 20 days; its migrant page does not mention a 100-point test. The resulting card and statement then help elsewhere.
  2. TFN. The ATO's online TFN application checks your visa linked to your passport and asks for no documents to be sent. The TFN letter arrives at your Australian address within 28 days and can serve as address evidence where accepted.
  3. Phone and utilities. Bills in your name give you address documents.
  4. Medicare or licence. If eligible, these add Australian photo or secondary ID.

Name mismatches

Nigerian names cause more failed checks than missing documents. A passport may show surname, first name and middle name in an order that a form re-sorts; an Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa name may be spelt differently on a degree certificate; a married name may appear on some documents and not others.

  • Use your passport name, in its order, on every Australian application.
  • Do not drop middle names on one form and include them on another.
  • If documents differ, carry evidence linking them, such as a marriage certificate or a deed of change of name.
  • For a name change on the passport itself, see changing the name on a Nigerian passport after marriage.

Before an appointment

  • Ask the organisation for its document list and points values in writing, or check its website.
  • Bring originals, not photocopies, unless certified copies are allowed.
  • Check every document is current; an expired card may score nothing.
  • Bring your visa grant notice, even if it is not on the list.
  • Bring a recent document with your Australian address.
  • If a document is not in English, bring an accredited translation.

Certified copies and declarations

Some organisations accept certified copies instead of originals. If a statement is needed to explain a discrepancy, a Commonwealth statutory declaration is one route; the Attorney-General's Department says it needs an approved witness, or can be made through myGov with a Digital Identity. See certifying copies of Nigerian documents.

Nigerian documents beyond the passport

Your NIN slip, Nigerian driving licence, voter's card or BVN printout are Nigerian identity records, but an Australian organisation may not give them points, because it cannot easily verify them. Bring them if asked, but do not count on them. Your degree certificate, marriage certificate and birth certificate are more often used to link names than to score points.

If your passport is expiring

An expired passport can stop the whole chain, since it is usually your highest-value document. Renew well before expiry; see renewing a Nigerian passport through the High Commission in Canberra.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme's own identity checks are separate from Australian 100-point tests. When an Australian agent or employer asks for evidence of Nigerian income or savings, a verifiable statement through Pryme's partnership with VerifyDoc.ai can be checked as genuine and unaltered. See verifiable statements and security.

Questions people ask

Is a Nigerian passport accepted for the 100-point check?

A current passport is normally accepted as the main photo ID. You usually need other documents to reach 100 points.

What documents add up to 100 points in Australia?

Each organisation sets its own list. Typically a passport plus visa, an Australian bank card, Medicare card or a utility bill.

Can I open a bank account with just my passport?

Commonwealth Bank asks for an original passport and a branch ID check within 20 days for migrants. Other banks set their own rules.

What if my names are in a different order on documents?

Use your passport order everywhere, and carry linking evidence such as a marriage certificate where names differ.
