Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

Zenith Bank SMS alert fee and email alternative

What Zenith Bank charges per SMS alert, why your monthly debit varies, what the CBN rules say, and how to lean on free email alerts.

The short answer

Zenith Bank's FAQ states its AlertZ SMS notifications cost ₦4 per notification and email notifications are free. The CBN's Guide to Charges treats SMS alerts as mandatory and allows banks only to recover cost on customer-induced transactions, so you cannot normally switch SMS alerts off entirely, but you can add free email alerts and check your statement for how many SMS you are billed.

Most Zenith Bank customers notice a small recurring debit described as SMS or alert charges. It is the cost of the text message sent for each transaction. The amount looks trivial, but on a busy account it adds up across a year. This guide explains the fee, the rules behind it and what you can change.

What Zenith charges

SMS notification
₦4 per notification (Zenith FAQ, undated)
Email notification
Free (Zenith FAQ)
Service name
AlertZ, sent to your registered mobile number

Because the FAQ page is undated, treat ₦4 as Zenith's published figure rather than a guaranteed current price. The narration on your statement shows what is actually charged.

What the CBN rules say

The CBN's Guide to Charges, effective 1 January 2020, says SMS alerts are mandatory, that banks may charge only to recover cost on customer-induced transactions, and that there should be no charge for alerts on bank-induced entries such as the bank's own fees. Email alerts carry no charge. An exposure draft of a new CBN guide was circulated in April 2026; if it takes effect, check whether alert rules have changed.

  • Customer-induced: your transfers, card payments, withdrawals, deposits you trigger.
  • Bank-induced: maintenance charges, stamp duty, VAT on fees, interest postings, reversals.

Worked example (illustrative only)

Example: in one month you make 60 transfers and card payments and receive 15 credits, so 75 customer-induced alerts. At ₦4 each the SMS charge would be ₦300. Over 12 similar months that is ₦3,600. If the bank also sent 5 alerts that month for its own charges, those should not be billed under the CBN rule, so the charge should still be ₦300, not ₦320.

Can you turn SMS alerts off?

Because the CBN guide makes SMS alerts mandatory, banks generally do not let you opt out of them completely. What you can do:

  1. Make sure email alerts are on. They are free and keep a searchable record.
  2. Keep your alert phone number current, so the alerts you pay for actually reach you.
  3. Batch small payments where you can; fewer transactions mean fewer alerts.
  4. Check your monthly statement and count SMS charges against your transactions.
  5. Ask Zenith Direct (01-292 7000, zenithdirect@zenithbank.com) what alert options apply to your account.

Reading the charge on your statement

Banks usually collect alert charges as a single debit at the end of a period rather than ₦4 at a time, so you may see one line describing SMS or notification charges for the month. To check it, count the transactions you made in that period, multiply by the per-alert figure, and compare. A small difference can come from timing, for example alerts at the end of one month billed in the next. A large one is worth a query. Download the statement from internet banking, which Zenith's FAQ says lets you view and download transaction history; our guide to getting a Zenith statement shows the steps.

SMS, email and app notifications compared

EmailFree (FAQ)Searchable record, works abroadNeeds data; can land in spam
In-app viewNo alert chargeShows the real balanceOnly when you open the app

Checking that an alert is real

Zenith's FAQ gives a way to verify an alert: send 'verify *reference number' to 30010 on Airtel, MTN and 9mobile (now T2), or to 31010 on Glo. This matters because fake credit alerts are a common trick on traders: the 'alert' arrives, goods are handed over, and no money is there. Check the balance in your app, not the text message. See confirming a transfer before releasing goods.

Why paying for alerts is still worth it

It is tempting to see the alert charge as pure cost, but the alert is often the first sign that something is wrong. A debit you did not make, a card payment in a city you are not in, or a sudden run of small charges are all signs of a compromised card or account. If an alert shows a transaction you do not recognise, call Zenith at once and ask for the card or account to be blocked; Zenith's *966# page also lists *966*911# to block debits from your phone. Reporting quickly is what gives you the best chance of a recall or chargeback. For that reason, the better saving is usually to keep both SMS and email on, and to cut alert costs by making fewer, larger transactions where that suits you.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme protects your account with an authenticator app and transaction PIN rather than SMS codes. For proof of a payment, you can generate a verifiable receipt through VerifyDoc.ai that anyone can check is genuine and unaltered.

Questions people ask

How much does Zenith charge for SMS alerts?

Zenith's FAQ lists ₦4 per SMS notification and says email notifications are free. Check your statement for the amount actually charged.

Can I stop Zenith SMS alerts?

SMS alerts are mandatory under the CBN's Guide to Charges, so a full opt-out is not usually offered. You can add free email alerts and keep transactions fewer.

Why is my Zenith SMS charge different every month?

It depends on how many customer-induced transactions you make. Each alert on a transaction you trigger is charged; alerts for the bank's own entries should not be.

How do I verify a Zenith alert is real?

Zenith's FAQ says to send 'verify *reference number' to 30010 (Airtel, MTN, 9mobile) or 31010 (Glo). Also check your balance in the app.
