What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Chinese yuan (RMB) to naira rate today

Where to see today's official yuan to naira rate, how the figure is derived from the dollar, and why agent quotes differ from it.

The short answer

Today's official Chinese yuan to naira rate is published by the Central Bank of Nigeria on its exchange rates by currency page. It is derived by dividing the naira's dollar rate by the number of yuan one dollar buys. Agent and street yuan quotes are built the same way from the parallel dollar rate, plus a margin.

Where the official yuan figure is

Open the CBN's exchange rates by currency page (linked in the sources) and find the yuan, listed alongside the dollar, pound, euro and others with buying, central and selling columns. Check the date beside the figure: the CBN updates the table on business days. Monthly averages are on a separate CBN page if you need a figure for accounts or contracts. We do not print a rate here because it changes daily.

Yuan and renminbi: one currency

Renminbi (RMB)
The name of China's currency.
Yuan (CNY)
The unit it is counted in, used inside mainland China.
Offshore yuan (CNH)
The same currency traded outside mainland China, at a slightly different price.

Nigerian quotes almost always mean CNY. Small differences between quotes can come from one provider using the offshore price.

How the naira figure is derived

Most yuan bought by Nigerians is not traded directly against the naira. The price is a cross:

  1. Take the naira price of one US dollar.
  2. Take the number of yuan one dollar buys.
  3. Divide the first by the second to get naira per yuan.

The official rate uses the official dollar price. An agent's rate uses the parallel dollar price. That is why the gap between official and agent yuan rates mirrors the gap on the dollar; see official dollar rate vs black market.

Why your quote differs from the CBN figure

  • Banks sell at their own selling rate, which is above the CBN central figure.
  • Many providers convert naira to dollars and then dollars to yuan, adding a margin on each leg.
  • Transfer fees and intermediary bank charges are often quoted separately from the rate.
  • Quotes are valid only for a short time, especially near weekends.

Check your effective rate

Ask for the total naira to be debited, divide it by the yuan amount, and compare the result with the CBN central rate on the same day. That single figure tells you what the payment really cost.

Using the rate in pricing and records

Importers often need one yuan figure for a price list, a customs valuation discussion or year-end accounts. A daily figure is the wrong tool for a price list, because it will be out of date within the week. Many traders instead price from the rate they actually paid on their last order, plus a buffer, and review it on each new order. For accounts, the CBN monthly average is a defensible, published reference; record which figure you used and the date so your accountant can follow it.

  • Price list: last effective rate paid, plus a buffer you review each order.
  • Supplier negotiation: the CBN central cross, as a neutral reference both sides can see.
  • Records: the bank's advice slip or agent receipt showing the naira debited and yuan paid.

What is the yuan to naira rate today?

See the CBN exchange rates by currency page for today's official figure and its date. Agents quote their own, higher rates.

Is RMB the same as yuan?

Yes. Renminbi is the currency's name and yuan is its unit. Nigerian quotes normally use the onshore CNY price.

Why is the agent yuan rate higher than CBN?

Agents usually build their yuan price from the parallel dollar rate and add a margin.

How do I convert yuan to naira myself?

Divide the naira price of a dollar by the yuan price of a dollar. Use the same day's figures for both.
