Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Wise to Nigeria: what it sends, rate and fees

Wise pays naira into Nigerian bank accounts at the mid-market rate with its fee shown separately. What that means and what Wise does not do here.

The short answer

Wise sends naira (NGN) into Nigerian bank accounts from its own local bank account, using the mid-market exchange rate and showing its fee as a separate line. Its Nigeria page (October 2026) mentions bank accounts only, not cash pickup or mobile wallets, and Wise's help centre lists Nigeria as a destination without saying you can send from naira or hold it.

What Wise does for Nigeria

Wise is a money transfer and multi-currency account provider used widely by Nigerians in the UK, Europe and North America. For Nigeria its role is narrow: someone abroad sends money in their own currency and the recipient gets naira in a Nigerian bank account. Wise's "Send money to Nigeria" page, checked in October 2026, says the recipient "gets money in NGN directly from Wise's local bank account", and that you can send "to local bank accounts" without the recipient needing a Wise account.

The rate: mid-market, with the fee shown separately

Wise says it uses the mid-market exchange rate, the midpoint between buying and selling prices in the wholesale market. Most remittance apps build their margin into the rate they quote; Wise instead shows a fee as a separate line and converts the rest at the rate it shows. That makes the fee easy to see, but it does not automatically make Wise the cheapest. Compare the naira that arrives.

Do not anchor on any naira figure you saw in a screenshot. The naira moves daily; the live rate is shown on Wise's calculator at the moment you send, and our guide to how IMTO exchange rates work explains why app rates differ.

Fee examples on the page

As at October 2026, Wise's Nigeria page (US version) showed these example fees for sending 1,000 US dollars. The same page also mentions a lower figure for money already in a Wise balance without explaining the difference, so read the fee line in your own quote.

How the sender paysExample fee on 1,000 USD (Oct 2026)Speed shown
Direct debit7.78 USDIn seconds
Bank transfer12.18 USDAbout 12 hours

Wise also says it discounts its fee on amounts above 25,000 USD. Fees differ by sending currency and country; a sender in the UK sees a pounds-based fee.

Worked example: what lands

Example only, using a made-up rate of ₦1,500 per dollar. A brother in Houston sends 1,000 USD by direct debit with the 7.78 USD fee. Wise converts 992.22 USD (1,000 minus 7.78). At ₦1,500 that is ₦1,488,330. If another app charged no fee but quoted ₦1,485, the recipient would get ₦1,485,000, which is ₦3,330 less. With a quote of ₦1,495 and no fee, the other app would win by ₦6,670.

Speed

Wise's page states that "77% of transfers arrive in under 20 seconds, and 95% in less than a day", and that duration varies by route.

What Wise does not do in Nigeria

  • No cash pickup or wallet payout on the page. The Nigeria page describes bank accounts only. For wallets, look at providers that list OPay, PalmPay or similar.
  • No dollar payout. Recipients get naira. This matches the CBN rule that licensed IMTOs pay customers only in naira, reinforced from 1 May 2026.
  • Sending from naira is not described. Wise's help article on supported currencies lists Nigeria as a destination but says nothing about sending from NGN, holding NGN or getting NGN account details as a Nigerian resident.
  • Account eligibility for Nigerian residents is unconfirmed. Whether someone living in Nigeria can open and hold money in a Wise account depends on Wise's residency rules, which we did not verify. A freelancer in Lagos should read receiving Wise payments in Nigeria.

What to check first

  1. The naira amount for your exact send amount on Wise and on one other app, at the same time.
  2. Whether the fee changes with the payment method you choose.
  3. The recipient's full name, bank and 10-digit account number, matched to the bank's records.
  4. That the recipient's account tier allows the incoming amount.

Who Wise suits for sending to Nigeria

Wise tends to suit senders who want to see the fee and rate separately and who send to a named bank account rather than a wallet. Because the fee is shown as its own line, it is easy to check what you paid after the event, which helps if you send on behalf of several relatives and keep a record. Senders who need the money to reach a wallet, or a recipient who wants to collect cash, will need a different service.

For larger sums, such as rent or building money, the fee discount Wise mentions above 25,000 USD may matter, but a bank wire into a domiciliary account is the other route to consider if the family wants dollars rather than naira. Our guide on whether family abroad should send dollars or naira sets out that choice.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account can be opened from any country and holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR with local account details for each, so money can arrive in the currency it was sent and wait. Swap converts when you choose, with the rate shown first and the fee on its own line, much like the transparency Wise is known for. Compare both on the naira that lands.

Questions people ask

Does Wise send money to Nigeria?

Yes. Wise pays naira into Nigerian bank accounts from its local account. Its Nigeria page does not mention cash pickup or mobile wallets.

What rate does Wise use for naira?

Wise says it uses the mid-market rate and charges a separate fee. The live rate is on its calculator when you send.

How much is the Wise fee to Nigeria?

As at October 2026 the page showed example fees of 7.78 USD by direct debit and 12.18 USD by bank transfer on 1,000 USD. Fees vary by currency and method.

Can I receive dollars from Wise in Nigeria?

No. Recipients in Nigeria get naira, in line with the CBN naira-only payout rule for IMTOs.
