Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

Which lenders report to credit bureaus in Nigeria?

Banks and microfinance banks report under CBN circulars. Loan apps report when required. Here is who sends your data and where the gaps are.

The short answer

Banks and other CBN-regulated lenders, including microfinance banks, have been instructed by the CBN since 2010 to keep data exchange agreements with at least two licensed credit bureaus, and banks also report to the CBN's CRMS. Digital lenders registered with the FCCPC must furnish data to recognised bureaus where the FCCPC or a sector regulator requires it, so reporting among loan apps is less uniform. Some non-lenders, such as utilities and retailers, also supply data.

The short answer, lender by lender

Type of lenderMain regulatorBasis for bureau reporting (sources below)
Commercial, merchant and non-interest banksCBNCBN circular of July 2010: data exchange agreements with at least two licensed bureaus; CRMS reporting
Microfinance banks, primary mortgage banks, finance companiesCBNCBN circular to other financial institutions of May 2017 (re-issue of the two-bureau rule); enrolment on CRMS from April 2021
Digital lenders (loan apps) that are not banksFCCPCFCCPC 2025 regulations, regulation 25(1)(c): furnish data to recognised bureaus where required or directed
Loan apps owned by a microfinance bankCBN, and FCCPC for the digital lendingBoth sets of rules can apply
Cooperatives, ajo and esusu groups, private lendersVariesNo general rule we could find; only if they subscribe to a bureau
Utilities, retailers and other data providersVariesFirstCentral says such institutions supply it with data

Banks and microfinance banks: a CBN instruction

The CBN's own circular list records a July 2010 circular to all banks and other financial institutions titled "Data Exchange Agreements With at Least Two Licenced Credit Bureaus in Nigeria", and a May 2017 follow-up specifically for other financial institutions, the category that includes microfinance banks. The practical effect is that a loan from a bank or a licensed microfinance bank is expected to show up at more than one bureau.

Banks also report to the Credit Risk Management System, a CBN database. CRC's FAQ explains that CRMS is a regulatory system for bank credit, that its data is submitted to CRC and that it then appears in CRC reports. The CBN's circulars also record the start of CRMS enrolment for development finance institutions, microfinance banks, primary mortgage banks and finance companies in April 2021, with a further circular in May 2022.

Loan apps: required when directed

Non-bank digital lenders are registered by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, not licensed by the CBN. The FCCPC's Digital, Electronic, Online or Non-Traditional Consumer Lending Regulations 2025 say that lenders shall, "where required or directed by the Commission or any Sector Regulator", furnish service data on consumers to recognised credit bureaus, in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. The FCCPC announced on 20 July 2026 that it had resumed implementing these regulations after the Federal High Court in Lagos vacated a restraining order.

That wording is the gap. Unlike the CBN circulars for banks, the regulation does not on its face oblige every app to report every loan; it depends on what the Commission directs. Many apps do report, and some say so in their terms, but you should not assume either way. Read the app's loan agreement for a clause on credit bureaus, and check your own report after a loan closes. For more, see do loan apps report to credit bureaus?.

Others who supply data

FirstCentral's FAQ says the credit-providing institutions that supply it include banks, utility providers, retailers and other data-related service providers. So an unpaid postpaid bill or a retail credit plan can appear in a bureau file if the provider subscribes. Cooperatives and informal savings groups are a different matter: we found no general rule requiring them to report, so a cooperative loan usually stays off your file unless the society has joined a bureau. See are cooperative and esusu loans on credit reports?.

Why this matters to you

  • Good history may be invisible. If you have repaid a lender that does not report, the next lender cannot see it.
  • Bad history at one bureau only. Because banks report to at least two bureaus but not necessarily all, a record can sit at CRC and not FirstCentral, or the reverse. Check more than one.
  • Settlement updates take time. When you clear a debt, it is the lender that sends the update. Ask for a clearance letter and check the report a month or two later.

A further point: reporting feeds checking. The data banks send is what the next lender reads when it searches your file, so one lender's report shapes another's decision. Lending to people with poor records is also restricted by older CBN rules; the CBN circular list includes a June 2014 circular on prohibiting loan defaulters from further access to credit in the banking system.

Steps to find out if your lender reports

  1. Search the loan agreement for "credit bureau", "credit reference" or "credit information".
  2. Ask the lender in writing which bureaus it reports to and how often.
  3. Pull your own report from at least two bureaus and look for the facility by name and date.
  4. If a facility is missing or wrong, use the bureau's dispute route, for example CRC's support email listed in its FAQ.

Background reading: how the credit bureaus work and what a lender sees when it checks your file.

Where Pryme fits

Loans on Spaces are lent by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank, which is licensed by the CBN. Solid Allianze, the lender, uses credit bureaus and are integrated with all licensed credit bureaus in Nigeria. See Loans on Spaces.

Questions people ask

Do microfinance banks report to credit bureaus?

They are covered by CBN instructions to other financial institutions to keep data exchange agreements with at least two licensed credit bureaus, re-issued in May 2017, and have been enrolled on the CBN's CRMS since 2021.

Do loan apps report to CRC?

Some do. The FCCPC's 2025 regulations require digital lenders to furnish data to recognised bureaus where the Commission or a sector regulator directs it, so check the app's agreement and your own report.

Will my cooperative loan show on my credit report?

Usually not, unless the cooperative subscribes to a credit bureau. We found no general rule requiring cooperatives to report.

Why is my loan on one bureau report and not another?

Banks are told to report to at least two bureaus, not all of them, and smaller lenders may use only one. Check reports from more than one bureau.
