Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Water in Makurdi: Benue water board, boreholes and tankers

How Makurdi homes get water: the Benue State Water Board, boreholes, wells, vendors and tankers, with labelled costs and what to check before drilling.

The short answer

Most Makurdi homes combine several sources: Benue State Water Board supply where pipes reach, which residents told Daily Trust in December 2024 was irregular, plus boreholes, wells, vendors and sachet water. The board's tariffs are not published online, so borehole and tanker costs here are labelled examples; for scale, a Q2 2026 property survey put new boreholes in Lagos at ₦580,000 to ₦1.5 million.

Where Makurdi's water comes from

Makurdi sits on the Benue River, yet many households struggle for clean water. Daily Trust reported on 18 December 2024 that Benue State Water Board supply was irregular: one resident near the Police barracks said water came for three or more days and then sometimes not for a week, and households fell back on boreholes and hand-dug wells. In Nyon, a suburb of Makurdi, residents said there were no water board pipes at all and wells had dried up early.

At the same event, the state Commissioner for Water Resources spoke of the "near absence of water and sanitation services", and the governor said water, sanitation and hygiene would take about 20% of the 2025 budget. Whether that spending has reached your street is worth checking with neighbours before you rent.

The main options and what they cost

SourceWho paysExample cost (illustrative)Watch out for
Water board pipe supplyHousehold, by billTariff not published online; ask the boardIrregular supply; store water when it runs
Shared compound boreholeLandlord, sometimes shared₦2,000 to ₦5,000 a month to the landlord for pumpingWho pays for fuel or electricity

Water vendor (jerrycans)Per container₦100 to ₦300 a 25-litre jerrycanSource of the water
Tanker deliveryPer trip₦15,000 to ₦40,000 a loadTank cleanliness and size
Sachet and bottled waterPer bagVaries with seasonNAFDAC number on the pack

All Makurdi figures above are examples for planning. For tankers we have used the Lagos range reported by Ownkey for Q2 2026 (₦15,000 to ₦40,000 a delivery) as a ceiling; Makurdi deliveries are often cheaper over short distances.

Should you drill a borehole?

A borehole gives control but costs real money. Ownkey's Q2 2026 survey put new boreholes in Lagos at roughly ₦580,000 to ₦1.5 million. Costs in Makurdi depend on depth, ground conditions, casing, the pump and a storage tank, and on whether the site needs a geophysical survey first.

Worked example: borehole versus buying water

Illustrative example: a family of five in Makurdi buys 8 jerrycans a day from a vendor at ₦150 each.

  • Daily: 8 × ₦150 = ₦1,200.
  • Monthly (30 days): ₦1,200 × 30 = ₦36,000.
  • Yearly: ₦36,000 × 12 = ₦432,000.
  • A borehole at an example cost of ₦800,000, with ₦5,000 a month for pumping fuel or power (₦60,000 a year), pays for itself in a little over two years (₦800,000 ÷ (₦432,000 − ₦60,000) ≈ 2.15 years).

This only works if you own the property or have a long lease. Tenants usually negotiate with the landlord instead.

Questions to ask a driller

  • Will you do a geophysical survey first, and is it included in the quote?
  • What depth are you quoting for, and what is the charge per extra metre?
  • What casing and pump brand, and what warranty?
  • Is the storage tank, stand and plumbing included?
  • What happens if the borehole is dry or the yield is poor?

Get at least two written quotes, pay in stages tied to progress, and keep every receipt. A cheap quote that leaves out the pump or tank is not cheap.

Running costs

Pumping needs power. NBS data for May 2026 put Benue's average petrol price at ₦1,698.57 a litre, among the highest of any state, as reported by Legit.ng, so a generator-run pump costs more in Makurdi than in many cities. Solar pumps cost more upfront but less to run; see generator vs solar in Makurdi.

Keeping water safe

  • Test borehole water when new and after flooding; floodwater can contaminate shallow wells and boreholes.
  • Clean storage tanks at least yearly and keep lids closed.
  • Boil or treat vendor and well water for drinking.
  • Buy sachet and bottled water with a visible NAFDAC registration number.

Makurdi's flood season brings the biggest contamination risk; see flood season in Makurdi.

Dry season versus rainy season

Water stress in Makurdi is sharpest late in the dry season, when wells drop and vendors raise prices, as the Daily Trust report on wells drying up early in Nyon illustrates. In the rainy season the problem flips: there is more water but more risk of contamination. Plan storage for the dry months, and treatment for the wet ones. A household that budgets ₦36,000 a month for vendor water in our example should expect that figure to rise when wells fail.

What to check first when renting

  1. Is the house connected to the water board, and when did water last run?
  2. Is there a borehole, who owns it, and who pays for pumping?
  3. Is there a storage tank, and how big is it?
  4. What do neighbours pay vendors or tankers in the dry season?

Our Makurdi rent guide covers other checks before you pay rent.

Where Pryme fits

Saving towards a borehole or tank is easier in a separate Naira Savings Box, with the rate shown in the app. If neighbours share the cost, a verifiable statement through our VerifyDoc.ai partnership can show who contributed (receipts and statements).

Questions people ask

How much is borehole drilling in Makurdi?

We found no published Makurdi price. A Q2 2026 survey put Lagos boreholes at about ₦580,000 to ₦1.5 million; depth, pump and tank drive the cost. Get two written quotes.

Does Makurdi have pipe-borne water?

Some areas are served by the Benue State Water Board, but residents reported irregular supply in December 2024, and some suburbs such as Nyon had no pipes.

How much is a water tanker in Makurdi?

Prices are not published. Our planning example uses up to ₦15,000 to ₦40,000 a load, the Lagos range for Q2 2026; short Makurdi deliveries are often cheaper.

Is borehole water safe to drink in Benue?

Not automatically. Test it when new and after floods, keep tanks clean, and treat or boil water for drinking.
