Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Water in Abeokuta: borehole, tanker and Ogun water costs

How Abeokuta homes get water from public supply, boreholes, wells and tankers, with labelled running-cost examples using IBEDC and NBS diesel figures.

The short answer

Many Abeokuta homes rely on a borehole or well, buy water from tankers or vendors, or combine these with public supply from the Ogun State Water Corporation where pipes reach. We could not confirm the corporation's current coverage, so ask neighbours and your landlord before you rent. The biggest running cost of a borehole is pumping: in the labelled example below, an electric pump costs about ₦4,700 a month at the July 2025 IBEDC Band A tariff.

Water is one of the costs newcomers to Abeokuta most often forget to ask about. Some buildings have a reliable borehole and tank; others depend on vendors. The difference can be several thousand naira a month. This guide explains the options, how to estimate what each costs, and the questions to ask before you rent.

Where Abeokuta homes get water

SourceHow it worksProsCons
Public supply (Ogun State Water Corporation)Piped water to the building or a nearby tapUsually the cheapest per litre where it flowsCoverage and regularity vary; we could not confirm current status
BoreholePump draws groundwater into an overhead tankOn demand, under your controlDrilling cost, pump maintenance, power to pump
WellHand-drawn or pumpedLow costCan dry up in the dry season; quality risks
Tanker or vendorWater delivered by truck or in jerrycansNo investment neededHighest cost per litre; quality varies

What a borehole costs to run

Drilling depth and cost depend on the area's rock and water table, so get quotes from at least two drillers and ask for the depth, casing, pump and tank in writing. Once it is installed, the running cost is mostly power.

Electric pump on IBEDC supply

IBEDC supplies electricity in Ogun State. NERC's July 2025 supplementary order for IBEDC lists Band A at ₦209.50 per kWh (as at July 2025); Bands B to E are cheaper per kWh but come with fewer guaranteed hours. Check your current tariff on your meter receipt or IBEDC's channels.

Example only. A 0.75kW (about 1 horsepower) pump runs one hour a day to fill a tank. That uses 0.75kWh a day, or 22.5kWh over 30 days (0.75 x 30). At ₦209.50 per kWh, that is about ₦4,714 a month (22.5 x ₦209.50 = ₦4,713.75).

Pumping on a generator

When grid power is out, many households pump on a generator. Diesel prices in Ogun have been among the lowest in the country: NBS put the average at ₦1,200.71 per litre in October 2024, the lowest of any state that month. That figure is two years old, so check today's pump price. Example only: if a small generator burns half a litre an hour and runs one hour a day for pumping, that is 15 litres a month. At ₦1,200.71 per litre, about ₦18,011 (15 x ₦1,200.71 = ₦18,010.65); at a higher pump price, more.

Tanker and vendor water

Tanker prices depend on the tank size, the distance and the season, and usually rise in the dry months. Example only: if a household buys a 2,000-litre tank load for ₦10,000 twice a month, that is ₦20,000 a month (₦10,000 x 2), more than four times the electric pumping example above. Agree the volume before the driver starts filling, and check the tank afterwards.

Comparing the options over a year

Using the examples above, which are illustrations rather than quotes, a household that pumps on IBEDC power all year spends about ₦56,565 (₦4,713.75 x 12), one that pumps on a generator at the October 2024 diesel price spends about ₦216,128 (₦18,010.65 x 12), and one that buys two tanker loads a month spends ₦240,000 (₦20,000 x 12). Most homes mix sources, so your real figure will fall somewhere in between. The comparison explains why buildings with a working borehole and a reliable power supply command higher rents.

Sharing costs in a compound

In multi-flat compounds the landlord or caretaker often runs one pump and shares the cost. Ask how the share is calculated (per flat, per person or by usage), how often you will be asked to pay, and whether you will see the meter or fuel receipts. Agree it before you move in, not after the first dispute.

Water quality

  • Ask when the borehole was last tested and treated, and whether the tank is cleaned regularly.
  • Keep the borehole away from soakaways and septic tanks.
  • Boil or filter drinking water if you are unsure of the source.
  • For tanker water, ask where it was drawn from.

Questions to ask before you rent

  1. What is the main water source, and is there a backup?
  2. Who pays for pumping, repairs and tank cleaning?
  3. Is pumping on a shared meter or generator, and how is the cost split?
  4. How does supply hold up in the dry season?
  5. Is the building connected to public supply, and when did it last flow?

Water sits alongside rent, power and waste in your monthly costs. Our guides to upfront costs of renting in Abeokuta, rent by area and waste levies cover the rest, and moving house costs lists the bills to settle when you move in. You can buy electricity units for the pump in the Pryme app; see electricity bills.

Questions people ask

How do people get water in Abeokuta?

Through boreholes, wells, tanker and vendor water, and public supply from the Ogun State Water Corporation where pipes reach. Many homes combine two of these.

How much does it cost to pump borehole water with electricity?

In our labelled example, a 0.75kW pump running an hour a day uses 22.5kWh a month, about ₦4,714 at the July 2025 IBEDC Band A tariff of ₦209.50 per kWh.

Is tanker water expensive in Abeokuta?

It is usually the most expensive option per litre, and prices rise in the dry season. Agree the volume and price before filling.

Does Ogun State Water Corporation supply Abeokuta?

It is the state's public water supplier, but we could not confirm which parts of Abeokuta it currently reaches or how often. Ask the landlord and neighbours before renting.
