Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Using a Nigerian naira card abroad: what works and limits

Nigerian banks raised naira card limits for foreign spending in 2026. What each bank's figure was as at Sep 2026, and how the rate is set.

The short answer

Many Nigerian banks again allow naira debit cards for foreign spending, with limits raised in August and September 2026: Nairametrics reported GTBank at $40,000 a quarter, FirstBank at $10,000 a quarter plus $1,000 a day at ATMs, and Zenith at $50,000 a year, as at 7 September 2026. Some banks' own pages show far lower or no international spend. The bank converts at its own rate on the day, so check your bank's app for the current limit and rate before you travel.

Do naira cards work abroad?

It depends on the bank and the card. Through 2026, Nigerian banks raised the dollar limits on naira debit cards as foreign exchange supply improved. Business Post reported on 12 August 2026 a GTBank customer email saying its naira card limit was now $40,000 quarterly; by 7 September 2026 Nairametrics was reporting increases at several banks. Card scheme matters too: FirstBank's FAQs say its Verve card works only on domestic websites showing the Interswitch or Verve logo.

Limits by bank, as at August-September 2026

BankNaira card international limitSource and date
GTBank$40,000 per quarterNairametrics, 7 Sep 2026
FirstBank$10,000 per quarter (POS and web); ATM $1,000 a dayNairametrics, 7 Sep 2026
Zenith BankUp to $50,000 a yearNairametrics, 7 Sep 2026
Stanbic IBTC$8,000 per quarter (Mastercard)Nairametrics, 7 Sep 2026
Stanbic IBTC (own FAQ)$100 a month across POS, web and ATMStanbic IBTC cards FAQ
Access Bank$3,000 a month (Visa Signature, Platinum); $2,000 (Visa Classic, Mastercard)Legit.ng, 9 Aug 2026
Fidelity Bank (own FAQ)Individual naira cards not permitted for international transactionsFidelity FAQs, undated

Two things stand out. Bank pages and press reports do not always agree: Stanbic's own FAQ still shows $100 a month while Nairametrics reported $8,000 a quarter. And Fidelity's undated FAQ says its individual naira cards cannot be used internationally at all. Where they differ, the figure in your bank app or a written answer from the bank is the one that counts. Limits change; these figures are as at the dates shown.

What rate you pay

When you pay in pounds or dollars with a naira card, the bank converts the amount into naira and debits your account. The rate is the bank's own, not a published official rate. Legit.ng reported on 9 August 2026 that UBA was applying a daily-revised rate to naira card international transactions. Expect:

  • A conversion rate set by the bank on the day the transaction settles, which may differ from the day you paid.
  • Possible card scheme or cross-border charges, which your bank's tariff shows.
  • ATM owner fees abroad, on top of your bank's charges.

Compare the rate on your statement with the rate you could get by converting naira to a foreign-currency balance yourself before travelling. The gap between the two is part of the real cost of paying by naira card, alongside any fees, and it can be larger or smaller than the fees themselves.

We do not print a rate here because it changes daily; your bank's app or statement shows the rate applied to each transaction.

Worked example

Example only. Uche pays £200 for a hotel in Manchester with a naira card. If his bank's rate that day were ₦2,000 per pound, his account would be debited ₦400,000 (200 × 2,000), plus any charges on the bank's tariff. If the transaction settled two days later at ₦2,050, the debit would be ₦410,000. The rates are illustrative only.

ATM withdrawals abroad

Cash withdrawals usually have their own, lower limit. FirstBank's ATM limit of $1,000 a day sits inside its quarterly allowance, according to Nairametrics. Each withdrawal can carry three costs: your bank's charge, the foreign ATM owner's fee, and the conversion rate. Taking out larger amounts less often reduces the fixed fees, but carrying cash has its own risks. Check whether your bank's limit is shared across POS, web and ATM or set separately; Stanbic's FAQ, for example, describes its naira card's allowance as shared across all three.

If your card is declined

  • Check whether you have reached the monthly or quarterly limit in the app.
  • Check that international use is switched on for the card.
  • Make sure the naira balance covers the amount plus conversion and charges.
  • Call the bank's international line; a fraud check may have blocked a foreign transaction.
  • Try a different merchant channel: some cards allow POS but not online, or the reverse.

Practical points before you travel

  1. Check the international limit and channel split (POS, web, ATM) in your bank app.
  2. Ask whether the card must be enabled for international use first.
  3. Carry a second payment method; a single card can be blocked by a fraud check.
  4. Keep enough naira in the account to cover the conversion and charges.
  5. Note the bank's international contact number in case the card is blocked.

For longer stays, a dollar or pound card linked to a foreign-currency balance avoids repeated conversion; see spending abroad on a trip.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Personal Account holds USD, GBP and EUR alongside naira. You can Swap naira into pounds before you travel at a rate you see first, with the fee shown separately, so you know your cost before you spend.

Questions people ask

Can I use my naira card abroad in 2026?

With many banks, yes, within limits raised in August-September 2026. Some banks, such as Fidelity according to its FAQ, do not allow individual naira cards internationally.

What is the GTBank naira card limit abroad?

$40,000 per quarter, as reported by Nairametrics on 7 September 2026. Check the app for the current figure.

What exchange rate is used on naira cards abroad?

The bank's own rate on the day the transaction settles. UBA was reported to use a daily-revised rate. Your statement shows the rate applied.

Does Verve card work abroad?

FirstBank's FAQs say its Verve card works only on domestic websites showing the Interswitch or Verve logo. Use a Visa or Mastercard for foreign spending.
