Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

Union Bank SWIFT code and sort code for transfers

Union Bank of Nigeria's SWIFT/BIC is UBNINGLA (UBNINGLAXXX, head office). What a sender abroad needs, and why a Nigerian sort code is rarely required.

The short answer

Union Bank of Nigeria Plc's SWIFT/BIC code is UBNINGLA, or UBNINGLAXXX in its 11-character head-office form, registered at Stallion Plaza, 36 Marina, Lagos. A sender abroad needs that code, your exact account name and your account number, and should send in the currency of your account. Nigerian sort codes identify branches for domestic cheque clearing and are rarely needed for an international transfer; ask Union Bank if a sender's form insists on one.

Receiving money from abroad into a Union Bank account means giving the sender the right bank identifier. For international payments that is the SWIFT code, also called the BIC. This article gives Union Bank's code, explains each part, lists what the sender needs and sorts out the confusion around sort codes.

The code

Source: XE's SWIFT directory entry for UBNINGLAXXX, checked in October 2026. Union Bank's contact page gives the same head office, Stallion Plaza, 36 Marina, Lagos. Confirm the code with Union Bank before a first or large payment.

Reading UBNINGLAXXX

UBNI
Bank code: Union Bank of Nigeria
NG
Country: Nigeria
LA
Location: Lagos
XXX
Branch code: head office. The 8-character and XXX forms point to the same institution.

Former Titan Trust Bank customers should note that Titan Trust no longer exists as a separate bank after the merger completed on 1 September 2025, and Union Bank said account details were unchanged. Ask Union Bank which SWIFT code to give senders for an account that was opened at Titan Trust, rather than using an old Titan code from memory. See our merger guide.

What a sender abroad needs

  1. Beneficiary name exactly as on the Union Bank account.
  2. Beneficiary account number (your 10-digit NUBAN).
  3. Beneficiary bank: Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, Stallion Plaza, 36 Marina, Lagos.
  4. SWIFT/BIC: UBNINGLA or UBNINGLAXXX.
  5. Currency: send dollars to a dollar account, pounds to a pounds account, and so on. Union Bank's domiciliary accounts are offered in USD, GBP and EUR.
  6. Any intermediary (correspondent) bank details that Union Bank gives for that currency. Ask the bank; some senders' banks route automatically, others require it.
  7. Purpose of payment and a reference, which helps both banks with compliance checks.

What about a sort code?

In Nigeria, a sort code is a number that identifies a bank branch for domestic clearing, mainly cheques. It is not the same as a UK sort code, and international senders do not normally need it: the SWIFT code identifies the bank, and the account number identifies you. Domestic electronic transfers use the bank name or bank code and the NUBAN instead. If a payment platform asks for a sort code, ask Union Bank for your branch's code rather than copying one from a website; we did not find a Union Bank page listing sort codes in October 2026.

Which account should receive the money?

International transfers are cleanest into a domiciliary account in the same currency. If dollars are sent to a naira account, the conversion happens somewhere in the chain, at a rate you may not see in advance. Union Bank's domiciliary page lists SWIFT charges of 22 USD (or 15 GBP) and 18 EUR on its domiciliary current account, with conflicting figures between sections, so ask whether an incoming charge applies. Our Union Bank domiciliary guide covers the accounts.

Mistakes that delay incoming transfers

  • Name mismatch: the sender types a shortened name or a nickname. Give the name exactly as it appears in UnionMobile.
  • Wrong currency account: sending pounds to a dollar account, or dollars to a naira account, leads to conversion or a return.
  • Old bank details: a sender using a saved Titan Trust template after the merger. Ask them to update the beneficiary with Union Bank's details.
  • Missing purpose: some sending banks hold payments without a stated purpose or invoice.
  • Typos in the SWIFT code: UBNINGLA is easily mistyped. A wrong code can send the payment to another bank, or bounce it.

If a payment bounces, the returned amount is usually reduced by the fees already taken along the way, so getting the details right the first time saves money.

Fees and timing

International transfers may carry a sending-bank fee, an intermediary fee and a receiving charge. The sender usually chooses who pays (OUR, SHA or BEN). With SHA or BEN, the amount you receive can be less than what was sent. Delivery commonly takes one to several working days, longer if a compliance check is triggered. Ask the sender for the payment confirmation (MT103 or equivalent) if money is late; Union Bank can trace it with that reference. See our explainer on IBANs, sort codes, routing numbers and SWIFT.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account gives local account details for USD, GBP and EUR as well as NGN, so a sender in those currencies can often pay you without an international SWIFT transfer. Outside Nigeria, activities are carried out through regulated partners. See multicurrency accounts.

Questions people ask

What is Union Bank SWIFT code?

UBNINGLA, or UBNINGLAXXX for the head office at Stallion Plaza, 36 Marina, Lagos, per XE's SWIFT directory in October 2026.

What is Union Bank sort code?

Nigerian sort codes are branch-specific and used for domestic clearing. International senders normally need only the SWIFT code and your account number; ask Union Bank for your branch code if a form requires one.

Can I receive dollars in my Union Bank naira account?

It is better to receive dollars into a Union Bank USD domiciliary account. Sent to a naira account, the money is converted at a rate you may not see first.

Does Union Bank have IBAN?

No. Nigeria does not use IBANs. Give your 10-digit account number with the SWIFT code.
