Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ubani market in Umuahia: what it sells and market days

A practical guide to Umuahia's main market at Ubani-Ibeku: the kinds of goods traders sell, when to go, example prices and how to pay safely.

The short answer

Ubani market, in the Ibeku area of Umuahia, is commonly described by residents as the city's main market, with sections for foodstuff, household goods, clothing, building materials and more. Residents commonly describe it as open most days rather than only on one day of the four-day Igbo market week; ask traders which days are busiest. No official guide lists its sections or prices, so the prices here are labelled examples.

Where Ubani fits among Umuahia's markets

Umuahia has several markets, and residents tend to describe them by what they do best. Ubani, sometimes written Ubani-Ibeku after the Ibeku clan area it sits in, is commonly called the main market: the place to go when you need many different things in one trip. Smaller markets such as Orie Ugba and the trading around Isi-Gate are more often mentioned for foodstuff close to home; see our Orie Ugba and Isi-Gate guide.

We could not find an official map or directory of Ubani's sections. The descriptions below reflect how residents and traders commonly describe the market. Ask a trader or the market association office for directions once inside, because lines and sections shift.

What it sells

  • Foodstuff: rice, beans, garri, yam, palm oil, dried fish, stockfish, crayfish, spices and fresh vegetables.
  • Meat and fish: butchers, live poultry and fresh or frozen fish.
  • Household goods: pots, plastics, cleaning items, bedding and small electricals.
  • Clothing and fabrics: ready-made clothes, wrappers, lace, school uniforms and shoes.
  • Building and hardware: cement, iron rods, roofing, plumbing and electrical fittings, often around the market's edges.
  • Provisions and drinks: wholesale cartons for shop owners.

Market days and when to go

Igbo communities traditionally count a four-day market week of Eke, Orie, Afor and Nkwo, and many village markets open on only one of those days. Big urban markets such as Ubani are commonly described as trading every day except Sunday, with crowds peaking on some days and before festivals. Practical timing:

  • Early morning, roughly before 10am, for fresh produce and calmer bargaining.
  • Weekdays rather than Saturdays if you dislike crowds.
  • Avoid the days just before Christmas and Easter unless you must; prices and crowds both rise.
  • Keep an eye on the weather; rain makes some lanes muddy and slows everything down.

Example prices and a shopping list

No body publishes Ubani prices. The NBS publishes state averages: in April 2026 Abia's white garri averaged ₦1,075.47 per kg (the highest state) and palm oil ₦2,024.41 per litre (the lowest). The table below is a labelled example of a monthly top-up for a small household; prices change weekly.

Item (example)QuantityExample price
Local rice10kg₦24,000
Beans5kg₦7,000
Garri10kg₦11,000
Palm oil4 litres₦8,400
Crayfish and seasoningMixed₦5,000
Detergent and soapMixed₦6,000
Total₦61,400

Check: ₦24,000 + ₦7,000 + ₦11,000 + ₦8,400 + ₦5,000 + ₦6,000 = ₦61,400.

Bargaining well

  • Ask two or three sellers before buying anything costly.
  • Check measures: paint buckets and "mudu" cups vary in size.
  • Buy dry goods in larger quantities from one seller and ask for a better price.
  • Become a regular customer; traders reward loyalty with fair measures and credit.

Getting there and back

Keke and buses run to the market from most parts of the city, and many shoppers hire a keke for the trip home when loads are heavy. Agree the price before loading, and count your bags. Some shoppers pay a market porter (truck pusher) to carry goods to the road; agree that price too.

Paying safely

Most Ubani traders now accept transfers, and many have POS terminals. A few rules prevent most problems:

  1. Confirm the account name shown in your app matches the trader or their shop before sending.
  2. Wait until the trader confirms the alert before taking the goods away, and do not show a "pending" screen as proof.
  3. If you pay by card at a POS, keep the receipt slip.
  4. Carry only the cash you need, in more than one pocket, and watch your phone in crowded lanes.
  5. Be wary of anyone offering to "help you get a better price" from a friend's stall for a fee.

For traders thinking of a stall

Spaces in established markets usually change hands through the market association, existing traders or the authority that manages the market, and the costs can include a stall rent or purchase, association dues and daily tolls. Before paying anyone for a space, ask who the legal owner is, get the terms in writing, and check with the market association office that the person can lawfully let or sell it. Ask existing traders in the same line what they pay each month, so you have a realistic figure before committing.

Market charges for traders have been the subject of dispute in Abia; if you trade at Ubani, see our guide to levies a shop pays in Umuahia. Getting there and back with heavy loads is covered in our transport guide; okada can no longer be used in the city after the June 2026 ban.

Where Pryme fits

Paying traders by transfer from a Pryme Personal Account shows the fee before you approve (Send). Traders who want a cleaner way to take payments can open a Pryme Business Account and use bank-transfer checkout, free of charge.
