Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Towing and vehicle recovery business: truck cost and pricing

Start a towing and vehicle recovery business in Nigeria: truck types, papers, how to price a tow, who the clients are, and a worked naira example.

The short answer

A towing business in Nigeria needs a tow truck (a wheel-lift, a flatbed or both), a driver with a commercial licence, insurance, and a price list built from fuel and time per job. Most private operators charge a call-out fee that covers the first few kilometres plus a rate per kilometre, and the steady money comes from insurers, fleet owners, dealers and estates rather than one-off breakdowns.

Choosing a truck

Towing vehicles fall into three broad types. Buy for the jobs you expect most often, not the biggest job you can imagine.

TypeBest forLimits
Wheel-lift (spec lift)Quick tows of cars from roadsides and car parksCan damage some vehicles; not ideal for all-wheel-drive cars
Flatbed (rollback)Damaged cars, luxury and all-wheel-drive vehicles, longer distancesHigher price, slower to load
Heavy recovery wreckerTrucks, buses and trailersFar higher cost; specialist operators

Prices for used flatbeds and wheel-lift units change with the exchange rate and import costs, so get several written quotes. In the worked example below we assume a used flatbed at ₦35,000,000; treat that only as a placeholder. Inspect the hydraulics, winch, chains and straps before buying, because a failed winch on a job can damage the customer's car.

Papers, insurance and rules

  • Commercial vehicle registration, vehicle licence and roadworthiness certificate for the truck.
  • A driver with the right commercial licence class; FRSC processes commercial licences at a capture centre with a medical certificate.
  • Third-party insurance as a minimum; the NAICOM circular effective 1 January 2023 set ₦20,000 a year for special types of vehicle and ₦100,000 for trucks and general cartage. Ask an insurer which category your tow truck falls into.
  • Cover for the vehicles you carry. Ask a licensed insurer about cover for damage to towed vehicles, and verify policies on askNIID.
  • A speed limiter if your truck is a commercial vehicle covered by the FRSC mandate.

State traffic agencies tow illegally parked and broken-down vehicles and charge fixed fees. The Lagos offence and charges schedule lists towing at ₦10,000 for a car, ₦2,000 for a tricycle, ₦500 for a motorcycle and ₦50,000 to ₦100,000 for trailers, plus storage at ₦1,000 a day for cars. Some agencies use contracted private operators; if you want that work, ask the agency how it appoints them. Do not tow from a public road on your own initiative.

How to price a tow

Most private operators combine a call-out fee with a distance rate, and add charges for night work, winching from a ditch or holding a car in a yard.

  1. Set a call-out fee that covers the first part of the journey, for example the first 10 km.
  2. Add a rate per kilometre after that, measured from pick-up to drop-off.
  3. Add a winching or recovery charge when the car is off the road or damaged.
  4. Add a night or public holiday surcharge.
  5. Quote before you leave base, by phone or message, so the customer agrees the price.

Worked example: a 30 km flatbed tow

This is an example with assumed figures. Diesel was announced at ₦1,605 a litre at the Dangote refinery gantry on 5 August 2026, as reported by Legit.ng; pump prices are higher and move often, so we assume ₦1,700 here. Check the pump price on the day.

LineExample
Call-out fee covering first 10 km₦30,000
20 more km at ₦1,500 per km₦30,000
Price to customer₦60,000
Diesel: 60 km driven in total at 4 km a litre = 15 litres × ₦1,700₦25,500
Driver and assistant allowance₦5,000
Wear, tyres and equipment reserve₦5,000
Margin on the job₦24,500

Three such jobs a day over 24 days would give a ₦1,764,000 monthly margin before insurance, yard rent, phone lines and any loan repayment on the truck. The bigger question is volume: a truck that does one job a day earns a third of that. Track jobs per day from the start.

Who your clients are

  • Insurers and loss adjusters: moving accident vehicles to repairers. They want reliable response times and photos at pick-up and drop-off.
  • Fleet owners and ride-hailing car owners: breakdowns and repossessions; see our guide to driver remittance for fleet owners.
  • Car dealers and mechanics: moving stock and customer cars.
  • Estates and car parks: removing abandoned vehicles under the estate's own rules.
  • Lenders: vehicle recovery after default, which must follow the loan agreement and the law; never take a vehicle without the lender's documented instruction.

Running it safely

Photograph every vehicle from all sides before loading, note the fuel level and mileage, and get the owner or client to sign a pick-up note. Use cones and reflective jackets on the roadside. Keep a written record of who instructed each tow. These habits protect you when a customer later disputes damage or a price.

Answer the phone at night. Breakdowns and accidents do not keep office hours, and the operator who picks up at 11pm and arrives within the hour gets saved in the caller's phone and passed to friends. Publish one number, keep a second driver on call for weekends, and log response times so you can show corporate clients how quickly you arrive.

Where Pryme fits

Corporate clients such as insurers pay on invoice: a Pryme Business Account lets you send invoices and take one-off payments from motorists through bank-transfer checkout free of charge. A separate sub-account for fuel keeps job costs visible.

Questions people ask

How much does towing cost in Lagos?

Lagos State's published schedule charges ₦10,000 to tow a car it removes, plus storage. Private operators set their own prices, usually a call-out fee plus a rate per kilometre; ask for the price before the truck leaves.

How much is a tow truck in Nigeria?

Prices depend on type, age and the exchange rate. Get written quotes for wheel-lift and flatbed units; our example assumes ₦35 million for a used flatbed only as a placeholder.

Do I need a licence to start a towing business in Nigeria?

You need business registration, commercial vehicle papers, a commercial driver's licence and insurance. Ask your state traffic agency if it licenses or appoints private towing operators.

Who are the best clients for a towing business?

Insurers, fleet owners, car dealers, mechanics, estates and lenders give repeat work, unlike one-off roadside breakdowns.
