Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

AI agents

Writing a support policy an AI agent can follow

How to write refund, returns, delivery and dispute policies in short, dated, numbered clauses that an AI support agent can find, apply and cite correctly.

The short answer

Write each policy as short, numbered clauses with a clear condition and outcome, a date it took effect, and an explicit list of what you do not do. Keep one version only, remove contradictions with your website, and name who owns each policy. An AI agent can then find the clause, apply it to the customer’s facts and cite it.

An AI support agent is only as reliable as the policy set it answers from. Most small businesses have policies scattered across a website footer, a terms page, old emails and the owner’s memory. That works when the owner answers every message. It does not work for an agent, which needs to find the rule, apply it and point to it.

The shape of a usable clause

A clause an agent can follow has four parts: the condition, the outcome, any limits, and what happens otherwise.

Condition
“If an unused item is returned within 30 days of delivery…”
Outcome
“…we refund the item price to the original payment method…”
Limits
“…within 5 working days of receiving it. Delivery charges are not refunded unless the item was faulty.”
Otherwise
“Returns after 30 days are not accepted, except for faulty items (see clause 4).”

Compare that with “We want you to be happy with your purchase and will do our best to sort out any issues.” A customer may like the warmth, but an agent cannot apply it, and neither can a new staff member.

Write for the customer as well as the agent. The same clause the agent cites will often be quoted in the reply, so it should read naturally to a member of the public. Avoid internal jargon (“RMA”, “SLA breach”) and avoid legal phrasing that nobody outside a law firm uses. If a clause needs a definition, such as what counts as “unused”, add it as its own short clause rather than burying it in a long sentence.

The policies to write first

PolicyQuestions it settlesWatch for
Returns and refundsCan I return it? When will I get my money?Your legal minimum, which varies by country
DeliveryWhen will it arrive? Do you deliver to…?Regions, cut-off times, couriers
Cancellations and changesCan I change my booking? Is there a fee?Different rules for different services
Faulty items and complaintsIt arrived broken. What now?Statutory rights that override your terms
Payments and disputesI was charged twice. I paid but it shows unpaid.Who investigates, and how long it takes
Credit and instalmentsCan I pay later? What if I miss a payment?Regulated activity in some countries

Statutory rights come first. In the UK, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives consumers rights to a refund, repair or replacement for faulty goods, and GOV.UK guidance sets out what businesses must offer for returns, including for online sales. In Nigeria, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act sets out consumer rights enforced by the FCCPC; our explainer on refunds in Nigeria covers the basics. In the US and Canada, consumer rules vary by state and province. Your written policy can be more generous than the law but not less, so have an adviser check it.

Rules that make the set work

  1. One version. Remove old FAQ pages and PDFs from the agent’s sources. Conflicting versions are the commonest cause of wrong answers.
  2. Dates. Give each policy an effective date, and keep earlier versions archived so orders placed under them are handled fairly.
  3. Numbers, not adjectives. “Within 5 working days”, not “promptly”.
  4. Explicit exclusions. “We do not offer price-matching.” “We do not deliver to PO boxes.”
  5. Discretion named. Where you allow exceptions, say who decides: “Goodwill credits are at the manager’s discretion.” The agent then knows to escalate.
  6. Owner. One person per policy, responsible for keeping it current.

Worked example (illustrative)

A café that sells catering trays rewrites its cancellation policy. Before: “Please give us as much notice as possible.” After: “1. Orders cancelled 48 hours or more before collection are refunded in full. 2. Orders cancelled less than 48 hours before collection are refunded at 50%. 3. Orders not collected are not refunded. 4. Exceptions are decided by the owner.” The agent can now answer most cancellation messages with a cited clause, and sends exceptions to the owner, who sees each one with the order and the time of cancellation.

Notice that clause 4 does the agent a favour. Without it, a customer asking for an exception gets a flat no; with it, they get an honest “that is the owner’s decision, and I have passed it on”.

Keeping it current

A policy set is never finished. The best signal of what to write next comes from the agent itself: every question it could not source is a gap, and every escalation for the same reason is a policy that needs a clearer rule or a named exception.

  • Update the policy before you change how you trade, not after the first complaint.
  • Review the list of questions the agent could not source each week; most are policies you have not written yet.
  • Re-run your test questions after any change. See stopping wrong answers.

Where Pryme fits

You point the Pryme Customer Support agent at your policies for refunds, delivery, disputes and credit, and that set is the only thing it may answer from, with the clause attached to every reply. Where the set is silent, it says so and hands the case to a person. The Compliance agent tracks policies and obligations alongside, so changes are recorded. See answering from your own records.

Questions people ask

What should a refund policy include?

The time limit, the condition of goods, how and when money is returned, what is not refunded, and how faulty items are handled. Check it meets your country’s legal minimum.

Can my refund policy be stricter than consumer law?

No. Statutory rights, such as those under the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015, apply regardless of your terms. You can offer more, not less.

How long should each policy clause be?

One or two sentences, with a single condition and outcome. Short, numbered clauses are easier for people and agents to find and cite.

Who should own customer policies in a small business?

Name one person per policy, usually the owner or manager, and make updating it part of any change to prices, delivery or services.
