Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Student money in Makurdi: BSU and JOSTUM costs explained

A labelled monthly budget for BSU and JOSTUM students in Makurdi: off-campus rent, food, transport, where fees are published, NELFUND and ways to earn.

The short answer

A student at Benue State University (BSU) or JOSTUM in Makurdi who lives off campus spends most on rent, food and transport, and our labelled example comes to about ₦81,000 a month before school fees. Fees are set by each university for each session, so check your portal; NELFUND student loans can cover fees paid to the school and a monthly upkeep paid to the student.

Two universities, two fee systems

Makurdi has two large universities. Benue State University (BSU) is owned by the state, and JOSTUM is a federal university. Their fee structures are set separately, and charges can differ by faculty, level, session and, at some institutions, by state of origin.

We did not find a current fee schedule from either university's official site in the sources we checked, and figures copied on student blogs are often for older sessions. Use your student portal or the bursary's published schedule for the current session, and keep the official invoice.

A labelled monthly budget for an off-campus student

This is an illustrative example, not a survey. It assumes a student sharing a self-contained room off campus, cooking most meals and taking keke to lectures.

ItemExample per monthBasis
Rent share₦15,000₦180,000 a year for your half of a room, ÷ 12
Foodstuff and cooking₦38,000Garri, rice, beans, yam, soup ingredients
Cooking gas or kerosene₦6,000Shared cylinder
Keke to campus₦12,000Example ₦300 each way, 20 days
Data₦6,000Depends on plan
Printing, handouts, photocopies₦4,000Higher near exams
Total₦81,000

Check: 15,000 + 38,000 + 6,000 + 12,000 + 6,000 + 4,000 = 81,000. Over a nine-month academic session that is ₦729,000 (81,000 × 9), before fees, books and travel home.

What official prices tell you

  • Food: NBS data for April 2026 put the national average for white garri at ₦808.96 a kilo and brown beans at ₦1,338.93 a kilo, as reported by ThisDay. North-Central, which includes Benue, had the lowest zonal garri average at ₦673.88.
  • Transport: NBS reported an average city bus fare of ₦1,431.25 and an average okada fare of ₦1,072.51 nationally in May 2026, per Nairametrics. Short keke hops in Makurdi usually cost less than these averages, which cover longer journeys.
  • Fuel: Benue's average petrol price was ₦1,698.57 a litre in May 2026, among the highest states, per NBS data reported by Legit.ng. It drives keke fares and generator costs.

These figures move monthly, so check the latest NBS price watch for current numbers.

One-off costs each session

The monthly budget misses the lump sums that arrive at the start of each session. List them before resumption so they do not eat into feeding money:

  • School fees or registration charges, and acceptance fees for new students.
  • Departmental and faculty dues, and any compulsory association levies.
  • Textbooks, lab coats or practical materials for science and engineering courses.
  • Renewal of an off-campus lodge, often due a full year at a time.
  • Transport home and back at the start and end of each semester.

Ask your department for a written list of compulsory charges, and pay only to official university accounts.

NELFUND: what it covers

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) lends to students at public universities, including state and federal institutions. Its own FAQ describes the loans as zero interest, with institutional charges paid directly to the school and an upkeep amount paid monthly to the student if they applied for both. Repayment starts two years after NYSC, through deductions of 10% of salary for employees.

  1. Apply through the NELFUND portal with your JAMB number, NIN and, if 18 or over, your BVN.
  2. Upload your admission letter or student ID.
  3. Your university verifies you; NELFUND says it disburses within 30 days of approval.
  4. Apply again every session; approval is not carried over.

A loan is still a debt that follows you into working life. Borrow only for what you need, keep copies of every approval and disbursement notice, and read the agreement before you accept.

Earning while you study in Makurdi

  • Tutoring secondary school pupils in maths, English or sciences, often on weekends.
  • Typing, printing and project formatting for other students, especially near final-year submission.
  • Hair, nails and barbing in hostels and off-campus lodges.
  • Selling foodstuff in small bags bought in bulk from Makurdi markets; see Wadata and North Bank markets.
  • Online work such as graphic design or writing, if your data and power allow.

Keep earnings modest enough not to hurt grades, and avoid "investment" schemes on campus that promise fixed weekly returns; read common money scams in Makurdi.

Ways to make the money last

  • Pay rent with a roommate and agree bills in writing.
  • Buy staples in bulk at the start of the semester with friends.
  • Walk or share keke for short trips; see the Makurdi transport guide.
  • Ask home for a fixed monthly amount rather than irregular sums, so you can plan.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Personal Account lets you put allowance or NELFUND upkeep into a Flexible Savings Box and draw a weekly amount. A Personal Assistant can remind you before rent or data runs out and prepare payments for you to approve; see how students budget with an assistant.

Questions people ask

How much does a student need per month in Makurdi?

Our illustrative budget for an off-campus student sharing a room comes to ₦81,000 a month before school fees. Living on campus or cooking with friends lowers it.

What are BSU school fees for 2026?

BSU sets fees per session, faculty and indigene status. We did not find a current official schedule; check the BSU portal or bursary for your invoice.

Can JOSTUM and BSU students get NELFUND loans?

NELFUND lends to students at public tertiary institutions, which covers both state and federal universities. Apply each session with your JAMB number and NIN.

Is NELFUND loan interest free?

NELFUND's own FAQ describes the loans as zero interest, with repayment starting two years after NYSC. Read the agreement terms when you apply.
