Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Sparkle debit card: how to get it and fees

Sparkle offers a physical debit card with Lagos delivery and in-app freeze and limit controls. How to request it, and why to check the fee in app.

The short answer

Sparkle, run by Sparkle Microfinance Bank, offers a physical debit card for online and in-store payments, requested through the Sparkle Cards feature in the app, with delivery in Lagos stated on its website. Sparkle does not publish its card fees on its homepage or help centre pages we checked in October 2026, so confirm the issuance and any maintenance charge on the in-app card screen before you order.

What the Sparkle card is

Sparkle describes its card as a physical debit card that works for online purchases and in person, at shops and terminals. Because it is a debit card, every payment comes straight out of your Sparkle balance; there is no credit line attached to it. The card is part of a wider set of features in the app, alongside transfers, bills and the Stash savings tool.

Sparkle's homepage also lists card controls. You can block or freeze the card, and set card limits on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. Those controls are the most useful part of any app-based card, because you can switch the card off the moment you suspect a problem, without waiting on a phone line.

How to get a Sparkle debit card

Sparkle does not publish a step-by-step card guide on the pages we checked, so the steps below follow what the app's own feature list describes. The exact wording of buttons may differ in your version.

  1. Open and verify your Sparkle account. A card is linked to an account, so finish identity checks first.
  2. Go to the Cards section of the app.
  3. Choose the physical card option and confirm the name that will appear on it.
  4. Enter or confirm your delivery address. Sparkle's website mentions delivery in Lagos; if you are elsewhere, check before paying anything.
  5. Review the fee shown on screen, if any, and confirm.
  6. When the card arrives, activate it in the app and set a card PIN that you have not used anywhere else.

If you are outside Lagos

The homepage refers to delivery in Lagos. It does not say whether other cities are covered or whether collection points exist. Ask Sparkle support at Support@sparkle.ng before you order, so you are not charged for a card that cannot reach you.

Sparkle card fees: what is and is not published

We could not find a published Sparkle card tariff. The homepage, the business page and the help centre articles we read in October 2026 did not state an issuance fee, a delivery fee, a maintenance charge or a replacement fee. That is why this article does not give a figure. The fee that applies is the one the app shows before you confirm the order.

When comparing cards across banks, ask about each of these charges:

ChargeWhat to ask Sparkle
IssuanceIs there a one-off fee for the first card?
DeliveryIs delivery included, and does it differ outside Lagos?
MaintenanceIs there a monthly or quarterly card charge?
ATM withdrawalsWhat does a withdrawal at another bank's ATM cost?
ReplacementWhat does a lost or damaged card cost to replace?
Online foreign paymentsCan the card be used on foreign websites, and with what limit?

Worked example (illustrative only)

Example: if a card had a ₦1,500 issuance fee and a ₦150 quarterly maintenance charge, the first year would cost ₦1,500 + (4 × ₦150) = ₦2,100. These are not Sparkle's figures; replace them with the charges the app shows to work out your own cost.

Using the card controls well

  • Set a daily limit close to what you actually spend. A low limit limits the damage if the card is skimmed or stolen.
  • Freeze the card when you are not using it for online shopping, and unfreeze it only to pay.
  • After a POS payment, check the amount in the app before you leave the counter.
  • If you see a charge you do not recognise, freeze the card first, then email support with the details.

Our guide to POS fraud in Nigeria explains card swaps and double debits, and how to raise a dispute. For limits on the account behind the card, see Sparkle transfer limits.

If your card is lost, stolen or retained by an ATM

Act in this order. The first step takes seconds and does the most good.

  1. Freeze the card in the Sparkle app straight away.
  2. Check recent card transactions for anything you did not make.
  3. Email Support@sparkle.ng with the time you noticed, the last genuine transaction and any unfamiliar charges.
  4. If an ATM kept the card, note the ATM's bank and location and contact that bank as well as Sparkle.
  5. Order a replacement in the app once you are sure the old card is gone, and check any replacement fee shown.

Freezing is reversible. If the card turns up in a jacket pocket, you can unfreeze it; a cancelled card cannot be revived. That is why freezing, not cancelling, is the right first move.

Using the card on foreign websites

Sparkle's homepage says the card works for online purchases but does not say whether it is enabled for payments in foreign currency. Before subscribing to a foreign service, try a small payment or ask support, rather than finding out when a renewal fails.

Where Pryme fits

If you pay for things in more than one currency, a Pryme account holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR, with Swap converting only when you choose, the rate shown first and the fee on its own line.

Questions people ask

How much is Sparkle card fee?

Sparkle does not publish its card fees on the pages we checked in October 2026. The app shows any charge before you confirm the order, so check it there.

Can I freeze my Sparkle card?

Yes. Sparkle's homepage says you can block or freeze the card from the app and set daily, weekly or monthly card limits.

Does Sparkle deliver cards outside Lagos?

The website mentions delivery in Lagos only. Email Support@sparkle.ng to ask about other cities before ordering.
