Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to become a Smartcash PSB agent

Smartcash runs a large cash-in and cash-out agent network. How the agent role works, where to apply and what to confirm before you sign up.

The short answer

To become a Smartcash PSB agent, start from the 'become an agent' section of Smartcash's official website, smartcashpsb.ng, or ask through Smartcash's official channels; the published requirements could not be read for this article, so confirm them directly. TechCabal reported in March 2026 that Smartcash has over 500,000 agents providing cash-in and cash-out across all 774 local government areas.

What a Smartcash agent does

A Smartcash agent is a shop, kiosk or individual that acts as the bank's cash point. Customers come to deposit cash into their Smartcash wallet (cash-in) or take cash out of it (cash-out). Because Smartcash is a payment service bank built around mobile phones, agents are how money moves between the wallet and physical naira, especially in places without a branch or a reliable ATM. TechCabal reported in March 2026 that Smartcash had over 500,000 agents and coverage in all 774 local government areas.

How a cash-out works at the counter

BusinessDay described the customer side in February 2023: the customer dials *939#, follows the prompts to withdraw, and receives a pay code on the phone number linked to the wallet. They show the code to the agent, who completes the transaction and hands over the cash. As an agent you never need the customer's PIN; if anyone offers it, refuse.

Steps to apply

  1. Go to the official Smartcash PSB website, smartcashpsb.ng, which has an agent locator and a 'become an agent' section. Type the address yourself rather than following a link from a message.
  2. Read the current requirements and application route there. The site loads its content dynamically, and it could not be read for this article, so they are not reproduced here.
  3. If the site does not load, ask through Smartcash's official channels, such as the *939# menu or the toll-free line 939 reported by TechCabal.
  4. Prepare your identity and business details before you start; the application will ask for what Smartcash currently requires.
  5. Complete any onboarding or training Smartcash asks for and confirm in writing when you are approved to transact.

Questions to ask before you sign

  • What documents and business registration do you need, and is a physical location required?
  • How much float should you hold, and how do you top it up or move it back to your bank?
  • How is commission calculated on cash-in, cash-out and other services, and when is it paid?
  • What is the customer charged at your counter? BusinessDay reported in February 2023 that Smartcash charged ₦50 on withdrawals below ₦5,000; check the current charge, as it may have changed.
  • What device or app do you use, and who supports it if it fails?
  • What are the rules on daily limits, record keeping and suspicious transactions?
  • How are disputes and failed transactions handled for agents?

Worked example: thinking about float

Example only. Suppose you open in the morning with ₦150,000 in your agent wallet and ₦150,000 in cash. A customer cashes in ₦20,000: your cash rises to ₦170,000 and your wallet falls to ₦130,000. Another cashes out ₦35,000: your cash falls to ₦135,000 and your wallet rises to ₦165,000. Your total stays at ₦300,000 before commission; what changes is the mix. Running out of either side means turning customers away, which is why float planning matters as much as the commission rate.

Is it worth it?

The answer depends on footfall and on how much of your day goes to the work. An agent point earns from volume, so location matters more than almost anything else: a busy market lane, a motor park, a campus gate or a street with no ATM nearby will see more cash-in and cash-out than a quiet residential corner. Many agents run the service alongside another business, such as a phone accessories stall, a provisions shop or a POS stand, so that the agent income adds to an existing customer flow rather than having to carry the rent alone.

Before you commit, sit near the spot you have in mind for an hour at a busy time and count how many people look for cash. Then ask Smartcash for its current commission figures and work out how many transactions a day you would need to cover your costs. If the numbers only work on optimistic assumptions, start small and grow your float as demand proves itself.

Protecting yourself as an agent

  • Never accept a pay code you did not see generated for the customer standing in front of you.
  • Do not complete transactions for someone using another person's phone or wallet.
  • Keep your agent login and PIN private, even from staff where possible.
  • Record each transaction and keep receipts or screenshots.

Readers comparing agent programmes can see how to become a MoMo PSB agent, and the wallet itself is explained in the Airtel Smartcash PSB wallet. Fraud patterns are covered in USSD banking fraud.

Where Pryme fits

An agent business needs a separate account for takings and float. A Pryme Business Account can hold multiple accounts for different purposes, and its Finance agent prepares reconciliations for a person to approve.

Questions people ask

How do I become a Smartcash agent?

Start from the 'become an agent' section on smartcashpsb.ng or ask through Smartcash's official channels. Confirm the current requirements, float and commission directly.

How much does it cost to become a Smartcash agent?

Smartcash's agent fees, float requirements and device costs were not published on pages that could be read in October 2026. Ask Smartcash before you commit.

How many Smartcash agents are there?

TechCabal reported over 500,000 agents across all 774 local government areas in March 2026.

How do customers withdraw cash from a Smartcash agent?

They dial *939#, request a withdrawal and receive a pay code, which they show to the agent, as described by BusinessDay.
