Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Saving for your parents' upkeep

A monthly upkeep line plus a sinking fund for health, repairs and festivals: a calm way to support ageing parents in Nigeria without surprises.

The short answer

Plan your parents' upkeep in two parts: a fixed monthly line for food, power, transport and drugs, and a separate sinking fund you add to every month for the irregular costs such as hospital bills, repairs and festivals. Agree the amounts with siblings in writing and review them once a year against prices.

Why upkeep needs two parts, not one

Most families start by sending whatever they can when a parent calls. That works until three things happen in the same month: the light bill, a hospital visit and a leaking roof. The calls get harder and the amounts get bigger. A plan with two parts avoids that.

Monthly line
A fixed amount that arrives on the same date every month and covers the predictable costs: food, cooking gas, electricity, data and airtime, transport, regular drugs, and support for anyone helping in the house.
Sinking fund
A pot you pay into every month for costs that are certain to come but not on a fixed date: hospital visits and tests, repairs, rent or land rates, festivals, family ceremonies and travel to see relatives.

The monthly line keeps life steady. The sinking fund means that when a large bill arrives, the money is already there and nobody has to scramble.

Working out the monthly line

Sit with your parents, or whoever manages the house, and write down a normal month. Use receipts or bank alerts where you can. Ask about things they may not mention, such as a regular blood pressure drug or the cost of transport to church or mosque. Then agree a figure and a date.

Sharing between siblings

Where several children contribute, write down who pays what and on which date. Shares do not have to be equal; they can reflect what each person earns. The example below is illustrative only.

Contributor (example)Monthly lineSinking fundTotal each month
First child₦50,000₦25,000₦75,000
Second child₦40,000₦20,000₦60,000
Third child₦30,000₦15,000₦45,000
Family total₦120,000₦60,000₦180,000

Sizing the sinking fund

List the irregular costs you have faced over the past two or three years and estimate a yearly total. In the example above the family expects about ₦720,000 a year of irregular costs, so ₦60,000 a month goes into the fund (₦60,000 × 12 = ₦720,000). In the first year, if a big cost arrives early, the fund may not yet be large enough; agree in advance how the family tops it up.

Health is usually the biggest irregular cost

Check what health cover your parents have. The NHIA's own FAQ says the formal sector programme covers the contributor, a spouse and four biological children under 18, and that extra dependants can be registered. Parents are not in that default list, so a working child's employer cover will not normally include them unless they have been added as extra dependants or have their own plan. The NHIA FAQ also says plans have exclusions and partial exclusions, so even an insured parent can face bills. Ask the HMO or the NHIA office what applies before you rely on it.

Keep up with prices

Headline inflation was 14.63% in September 2026, according to NBS figures reported by Voice of Nigeria. A monthly line that was enough last year may not be enough now. As an example, raising a ₦120,000 line by 14.63% gives ₦137,556 (₦120,000 × 0.1463 = ₦17,556). Pick one month each year, review the figures with your parents, and adjust both parts together.

Steps

  1. Write down a normal month with your parents and agree the monthly line.
  2. List the irregular costs of the past few years and set the sinking fund contribution.
  3. Agree shares and dates with siblings in writing, including what happens if someone cannot pay one month.
  4. Check your parents' health cover and what it excludes.
  5. Choose one person to manage the sinking fund and share a simple record of what goes in and out.
  6. Review once a year against prices.

Paying directly versus sending cash

Some families send the whole monthly line to a parent's account. Others pay the big recurring bills directly, such as electricity tokens, cable TV, data and the pharmacy, and send a smaller cash amount for food and small spending. Paying bills directly means you know they are paid and reduces the pressure on a parent to stretch money across too many demands. Sending cash respects a parent's independence. Many families mix the two; talk it through with your parents rather than deciding for them.

Whichever you choose, keep a simple shared record: the date each contribution arrived and what the sinking fund paid for. It stops misunderstandings between siblings, especially when one person lives nearby and handles most of the spending.

Where Pryme fits

The sinking fund sits well in a Flexible Savings Box so the manager can reach it when a bill arrives. Siblings abroad can pay into a multicurrency account in pounds, dollars or euros and convert with Swap when they choose, seeing the rate first. The Personal Assistant can prepare the monthly transfer and remind you of the date; nothing moves until you approve. If a parent is setting up their own assistant, see helping an older parent set one up.

Questions people ask

How much should I send my parents every month?

There is no right figure. Write down a normal month of their costs with them, agree a monthly line that covers it, and add a separate sinking fund for irregular costs such as hospital visits and repairs.

Can I add my parents to my NHIA or HMO plan?

The NHIA FAQ says the formal sector programme covers the contributor, a spouse and four biological children under 18, and that extra dependants can be registered. Ask your HMO or the NHIA office whether parents can be added and at what cost.

How do siblings share the cost of supporting parents?

Agree written shares and dates. Shares can reflect income rather than being equal. Decide in advance what happens if one person cannot pay in a given month.

What is a sinking fund?

A pot you pay into every month for costs that will come but not on a set date, such as repairs or medical bills, so the money is ready when they arrive.
