Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Saudi Arabia work visa from Nigeria: costs and what to prove

Who pays for a Saudi work visa, what the employer must cover by law, the Wafid medical, and how to check a Nigerian recruitment agency first.

The short answer

A Saudi work visa is sponsored by the employer, not bought by the worker. Article 40 of the Saudi Labor Law, as published by the Ministry of Human Resources, says the employer bears recruitment fees, residence permit (iqama) and work permit fees and their renewal, exit and re-entry fees and the return ticket. What a Nigerian applicant usually has to prove is a genuine contract, qualifications and medical fitness from a Gulf Health Council accredited centre, not a large bank balance.

Offers of 'Saudi visa slots' circulate on WhatsApp in Lagos, Kano and Abuja every week, often with a price attached. Before you pay anyone, it helps to know how the Saudi system is built: the employer applies, the employer pays most of the official costs, and the worker's job is to pass checks. Anything that looks different from that picture deserves a second look.

How the sponsor and iqama model works

Saudi Arabia ties a foreign worker's legal stay to an employer. The employer obtains the authority to recruit, the work visa is issued against that employer's request, and after arrival the worker receives a residence permit, the iqama, linked to the same employer. The worker does not apply for a general 'work visa' on their own and then look for a job.

Article 40(1) of the Saudi Labor Law, published by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (HRSD), lists what the employer must bear:

  • Fees for recruiting the non-Saudi worker.
  • Fees for the residence permit (iqama) and the work permit, and their renewal.
  • Fines that arise from the employer's delay.
  • Fees for a change of profession.
  • Exit and re-entry fees.
  • The worker's return ticket to their home country at the end of the relationship.

That list matters for a Nigerian applicant because it shows which charges should never appear on an invoice from an agent. If someone in Nigeria asks you to pay a 'visa fee', 'iqama fee' or 'work permit fee', you are being asked to pay a cost the law places on the employer.

What you may legitimately pay for

Some costs do fall on the worker in practice because they arise before the employer is involved, or because they belong to you personally. The exact list depends on the employer's instructions, so ask for those in writing. Typical personal costs include:

  • International passport: issued by the Nigeria Immigration Service; you need one valid for the length of the contract.
  • Medical examination: booked through Wafid, the Gulf Health Council platform for people seeking employment or residency in a Gulf Cooperation Council state. The fee is shown when you book with an accredited centre.
  • Certificates and documents: copies, translation or attestation of degrees and professional certificates, where the employer asks for them.
  • Your own travel to appointments in Lagos or Abuja.

What you have to prove

A work visa is not a visitor visa, and the proof is different. The official pages we reviewed do not set a personal bank-balance requirement for an employer-sponsored worker. The checks that decide your file are:

  1. A real job offer and contract from an employer that holds the authority to recruit. Ask for the employer's name, address and commercial details, and keep the signed contract.
  2. Qualifications that match the job title in the contract. A mismatch between your certificate and the stated profession is a common reason for delay.
  3. Medical fitness from a Wafid-accredited centre. You book the appointment, the centre examines you, and the result is recorded on the platform; the Wafid site lets you check the medical report and the list of accredited centres.
  4. A visa that matches the contract. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa platform has an enquiry service where an application or visa can be looked up by its number. Use it to confirm that what you were given is real.

Example: reading an offer

Example: an agent in Ibadan offers a driver role in Riyadh and asks for ₦1,800,000, split as ₦900,000 'visa and iqama', ₦600,000 'processing' and ₦300,000 'medical'. On the Article 40 list, the visa and iqama portion is an employer cost. The medical is a real cost but is paid to the accredited centre when you book on Wafid, not to the agent. That leaves ₦600,000 of 'processing' with nothing official behind it. The applicant's next step is to ask the employer, in writing, which costs it is paying.

Checking the Nigerian agency

In Nigeria, private recruiters must be licensed under the Labour Act through the Federal Ministry of Labour, with separate application routes for domestic and international recruitment, as described by the law firm summary on Mondaq. Before you pay or hand over your passport:

  • Ask for the agency's licence and check it with the Federal Ministry of Labour office in your state.
  • Confirm the Saudi employer exists and that the job title matches your skills.
  • Never hand over your original passport without a written receipt naming the agency and the purpose.
  • Pay only into an account in the agency's registered business name, and keep proof of every payment.

For more on how sponsors and bank evidence work for other visa types, see our guide to using a sponsor's bank statement for a visa, and for another Gulf route, UAE visit visa rules.

Where Pryme fits

If you do pay a legitimate cost, such as a document attestation fee, keep a record you can prove later. Pryme customers can generate a regular or a verifiable receipt with VerifyDoc.ai, which anyone can check is genuine and unaltered. Once you are working abroad, a Pryme Personal Account can be opened from any country and you can send money to family in Nigeria from it; check the current charges in the app before you send.

What to check first

  1. Get the employer's details and contract in writing.
  2. Compare every charge you are quoted with the Article 40 employer list.
  3. Book your medical on Wafid yourself.
  4. Look up any visa you are given on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs platform.
  5. Check the agency's licence with the Federal Ministry of Labour.

Questions people ask

How much does a Saudi work visa cost from Nigeria?

For the worker, the main official costs are personal: passport, medical examination and any document attestation. Under Article 40 of the Saudi Labor Law the employer bears recruitment, iqama and work permit fees, exit and re-entry fees and the return ticket.

Do I need a bank statement for a Saudi work visa?

The official pages we reviewed do not set a personal bank-balance requirement for an employer-sponsored work visa. The file turns on the contract, qualifications and medical fitness. Follow the employer's written document list.

Where do I do the Saudi medical test in Nigeria?

Book through Wafid, the Gulf Health Council platform, which lists accredited medical centres and lets you view your result. Pay the centre's fee when you book, not an agent.

How do I know if a Saudi visa is real?

Use the enquiry service on the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa platform to look up the application or visa by its number, and confirm the employer named on it matches your contract.
