Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Retirement planning at 30 in Nigeria

How your RSA works at 30, what to add on top, and a labelled projection showing what ₦54,000 a month could become by age 50.

The short answer

At 30, check that your Retirement Savings Account receives at least 18% of your pensionable pay (8% from you, 10% from your employer) and add your own long-term savings on top. Benefits are normally payable at retirement or age 50, whichever is later, so time is your main advantage; inflation means the RSA alone rarely replaces a salary.

At 30, retirement planning is mostly about two accounts and time

Retirement at 30 feels far away, but it is the decade where small, regular amounts do the most work, because each naira has 20 to 30 years to grow. For most Nigerians the plan has two parts: the Retirement Savings Account (RSA) that the Contributory Pension Scheme builds for you if you are salaried, and your own savings and investments on top. Neither is enough alone. The RSA is locked until later in life, and your own savings are easy to spend.

Part one: your RSA

The Pension Reform Act 2014 sets the rules, as summarised by KPMG:

  • You contribute at least 8% and your employer at least 10% of monthly emoluments. Emoluments are at least basic pay plus housing and transport allowances.
  • Private employers with 15 or more employees must take part; smaller ones and the self-employed can join under PenCom guidelines.
  • Employers must remit within seven days of paying salary.
  • You can draw retirement benefits at retirement or age 50, whichever is later, through programmed withdrawals or a life annuity.
  • If you leave a job before 50 and are not re-employed within four months, you can withdraw up to 25% of the balance.

Your first job at 30 is to check that this is happening. Get your RSA PIN and statement from your PFA, and match the contributions against your payslips. Missing months are much easier to chase now than at 55. For the contribution rules in more detail, see pension contributions in Nigeria.

Part two: your own retirement savings

Your own money is what lets you choose when to stop work and covers what the RSA does not, such as a house, a business to run in retirement, or support for children who are still in school. Two ways to build it:

  • Voluntary contributions to your RSA. According to KPMG's summary of a PenCom circular effective 10 June 2024, 50% of voluntary contributions can be withdrawn one year after contribution, and income is taxable if withdrawn within five years.
  • Separate long-term savings and investments in your own name, held for growth and kept apart from your emergency fund.

A labelled projection

This is an illustration, not a forecast. Returns are not guaranteed, and the rates below are assumptions chosen to show the effect of time.

An example 30-year-old has pensionable emoluments of ₦300,000 a month. Minimum RSA contributions are 18%, or ₦54,000 a month. If pay never rose and they contributed for 20 years, to age 50:

Assumed yearly returnValue at 50 (nominal naira)Contributions paid in
0% (no growth)₦12,960,000₦12,960,000
10% a year, monthly compoundingabout ₦41,000,000₦12,960,000
15% a year, monthly compoundingabout ₦80,850,000₦12,960,000

Check: ₦54,000 × 240 months = ₦12,960,000. The larger figures are future naira, not today's naira. With headline inflation at 14.63% in September 2026 (NBS, reported 16 October 2026), a 15% return would barely keep pace with prices if inflation stayed there. So the 0% row is a fair picture of what that pot would buy in today's money if returns only matched inflation. That is why the RSA alone is unlikely to replace a salary, and why your own savings matter.

A plan for your thirties

  1. Confirm your RSA is active and contributions arrive monthly.
  2. Build an emergency fund of three to six months of essential costs first, so you never need to touch long-term money.
  3. Choose a retirement saving rate on top of the RSA, for example 5% of take-home pay, and set it to move on payday. See pay yourself first.
  4. Raise it by a point or two with every pay rise.
  5. Write down a rough target: the monthly income you want in retirement, in today's naira. You will refine it at 40.
  6. Keep the money for retirement in long-term places and do not mix it with goal savings.

If you are self-employed at 30

No employer means no automatic RSA. PenCom's Micro Pension Plan lets the self-employed and staff of very small employers open an RSA with any licensed PFA, with no minimum contribution and the freedom to pay daily, weekly or monthly. Start with a small regular amount; the projection above shows how much the years matter. See retirement without a pension.

What to avoid

  • Treating a scheme that promises fixed high returns as a retirement plan. Check any investment operator on the SEC register first.
  • Using the 25% early-access rule as an emergency fund; it leaves you with less at the end.
  • Ignoring old RSA accounts from previous jobs. You can hold only one RSA in your lifetime, so make sure everything is in it.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not manage pensions; your RSA stays with your PFA. For the savings you build alongside it, Savings Boxes let you set a Fixed Box aside for long-term money in Naira, separate from everyday spending, with rates shown in the app.

Questions people ask

How much pension will I get if I start at 30?

It depends on your pay, contributions and fund returns. In our example, ₦54,000 a month for 20 years is ₦12,960,000 in contributions before any return; growth and inflation change what that buys.

When can I collect my pension in Nigeria?

Retirement benefits are payable at retirement or age 50, whichever is later, as programmed withdrawals or a life annuity, under the Pension Reform Act 2014.

Is my pension enough to retire on?

For most people, no. With inflation at 14.63% in September 2026, returns need to beat prices just to hold value. Most people need their own savings as well.

How do I check my RSA balance?

Ask your PFA for a statement or use its app or website with your RSA PIN. Compare the monthly contributions against your payslips.
