Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Reporting a fake bank website or app: who takes it down

Found a cloned bank page or app? Who to tell first, where app stores and the police come in, what the law says, and what to do if you entered details.

The short answer

Report a fake bank website or app to the real bank first, through the contact line on its official app or website, because the bank can ask hosts, registrars and app stores to take it down. Then report the listing to Google Play or the Apple App Store using the store's report option, and file a report with the NPF National Cybercrime Centre at nccc.npf.gov.ng. If you entered any details, call your bank and block your account straight away.

Cloned bank pages and fake banking apps copy a bank's logo and colours closely. They arrive through search adverts, text messages, social media links and fake "upgrade" alerts. The aim is to capture your login, PIN or one-time code. Reporting one protects others, and the bank whose name is being used has the strongest reason and the best tools to get it removed.

If you typed in your details: act first

  1. Call your bank's real contact line and ask them to block your account and card. If your bank has a USSD block code, dial it from your registered line; see bank fraud desk numbers for the codes banks publish.
  2. Change your internet banking password and app PIN from your real app, once the account is secure.
  3. Check your statement for debits you did not make, and report them with the time and amount.
  4. If you installed a fake app, uninstall it, and consider a factory reset if it asked for accessibility or SMS permissions.

Many banks publish a dedicated email for scam reports. Fidelity Bank, for example, asks customers to report scams on 070034335489 or to true.serve@fidelitybank.ng. UBA lists a Fraud Help Desk on 02-012808800. When you report, send the full web address (copy it, do not click it again), a screenshot, where you found it (search advert, SMS, social media) and the date.

What the law says

Several offences in the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015 can apply to a fake bank site:

Section 16(1), cybersquatting
Intentionally using a name, business name, trademark or domain name belonging to another. Minimum 2 years' imprisonment or a fine of at least ₦5,000,000, or both.
Section 12(2), misleading electronic messages
Sending an electronic message that materially misrepresents facts, with intent to defraud. Minimum 5 years or at least ₦10,000,000, or both.
Section 13, identity theft and impersonation
Fraudulently impersonating another entity or person. Minimum 3 years or at least ₦7,000,000, or both.
Section 11, computer-related forgery
Inputting, altering, deleting or suppressing data so that it results in inauthentic data. Minimum 3 years or at least ₦7,000,000, or both.

You do not need to cite these in your report, but they show that cloning a bank's site is a crime, not just a breach of the bank's rights.

How to tell a fake before it is too late

  • You arrived by clicking a link in an SMS, WhatsApp message or search advert, rather than typing the address or opening your installed app.
  • The page asks for your full card number, PIN and OTP together. Real banks never need all three.
  • The app is not published by the bank's own developer account, has few downloads or poor reviews, or was found through a link rather than the store search.
  • There is urgency: your account "will be blocked", your BVN "needs updating" today.

See also fake bank customer care and KYC update link scams.

Worked example

This is an example. Seun gets an SMS saying his account is restricted, with a link. The page looks like his bank's login, and he enters his username and password before noticing the address is wrong. He stops, calls his bank's number from the back of his card, and the bank blocks internet banking. He reports the link to the bank's fraud email with a screenshot and files a report on the NPF-NCCC portal. Because he did not enter an OTP, no transfer went through.

After you report

Takedowns are not instant, and fake sites often reappear under a new address. Keep your report references, report any new copy you see in the same way, and tell friends and family which address and app are the real ones. If you lost money, your bank complaint and police report run in parallel with the takedown; see reporting cybercrime to the NPF-NCCC online.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme uses an authenticator app rather than SMS codes, plus a transaction PIN, so a fake page that captures a password alone cannot approve a payment. Open Pryme only from your installed app, and read the security page for how sign-in works.

Questions people ask

Who do I report a fake bank website to in Nigeria?

The bank whose name is being used, through its official contact line or email, and the NPF National Cybercrime Centre at nccc.npf.gov.ng.

How do I report a fake banking app on Play Store?

Use the report option on the app's listing page, and also tell the real bank, which can ask the store to remove it.

Is cloning a bank website a crime in Nigeria?

Yes. The Cybercrimes Act 2015 covers cybersquatting (s.16), misleading electronic messages (s.12(2)) and impersonation (s.13).

I entered my details on a fake bank site. What now?

Call your bank at once, block your account or card, change your password from the real app, and check your statement.
