Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to become a real estate agent in Nigeria

Do you need a licence to be an estate agent in Nigeria? State rules like LASRERA, how commissions and listings work, and the first steps to take.

The short answer

There is no single national licence for property agents in Nigeria, but some states regulate them: in Lagos, anyone dealing in real estate must register with LASRERA and hold a yearly permit, with a fine of at least ₦250,000 for an individual who does not. Estate surveyors and valuers are a separate profession regulated by ESVARBON. Agents earn commission on lettings and sales, usually a percentage of the rent or sale price.

Property agency is one of the most common side businesses in Nigerian cities. Rent is paid yearly, demand is high and landlords need people to find, show and screen tenants. The work rewards people who know an area well, answer the phone and keep their word. It also has a poor reputation because of fake agents and inflated fees, which is why states have started to regulate it. Becoming a trusted agent means learning the rules first.

Do you need a licence?

Lagos: LASRERA registration

The Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA) Law was signed on 7 February 2022. According to a Mondaq analysis by Famsville Solicitors, section 26 requires registration of anyone dealing in real estate in Lagos. An individual applicant must be a Nigerian (or hold a work permit), be at least 18, have a LASRRA residents' number, an office in Lagos, a WASC, GCE or NECO certificate, keep records and a separate client account, show a three-year tax clearance certificate and register a business name with the CAC. The permit lasts one year and is renewable (section 29(3)). Failing to register attracts a fine of not less than ₦250,000 for an individual or ₦1,000,000 for a company (section 48(a)), with further daily penalties. The Law's summaries do not state the permit fee; ask LASRERA. Details are in LASRERA registration for agents.

Other states

Several states have announced or are drafting their own rules; Oyo, for example, began talks with agents in 2026 (see agent fees in Ibadan). Where no state law exists, you can work as an agent without a licence, but you still need a registered business name to open a business account and look credible.

Estate surveyors are different

Estate surveyors and valuers are a regulated profession under ESVARBON, set up by a 1975 law, and only registered members can carry out valuations and use the title. Ownkey reports that ESVARBON and the professional body NIESV challenged LASRERA's powers in court, the Federal High Court ruled for Lagos and an appeal was indicated. An ordinary agent should not call himself an estate surveyor.

How agents earn

DealWho usually paysReported practice
Letting a homeIncoming tenantAgency fee reported as 10% of rent in Lagos under the LASRERA Law
Selling a homeSeller5% to 10% below ₦100 million, lower for larger sales (Ownkey, Aug 2026)
Finding a property for a buyerBuyerFinder's fee of 1.5% to 5% (Ownkey)
Managing propertyLandlordPercentage of rent collected, by agreement

When several agents work one deal, the commission is often split between the agent who has the listing and the one who brings the tenant or buyer. Agree the split in writing before you show the property. The rules on what tenants can be charged in Lagos are covered in agent fees and commission in Lagos.

Worked example

You let five flats in a year at ₦1,500,000 each and collect a 10% agency fee: 5 × ₦150,000 = ₦750,000. On two of them you split 50:50 with a co-agent, so you give away 2 × ₦75,000 = ₦150,000 and keep ₦600,000 before transport, data, adverts and your LASRERA permit.

How listings work

  • Get a written mandate from the landlord or the landlord's lawyer stating you may let or sell, at what price and on what terms.
  • Inspect and photograph the property yourself; note every fault in writing.
  • Advertise on property portals and your own WhatsApp and social pages with the true price and fees.
  • Screen tenants: ID, employer or business details, previous landlord.
  • Hand over keys only after the landlord confirms payment and the agreement is signed.

The most damaging thing an agent can do is take money for a property he has no authority to let. It is also the commonest scam (see fake house agents and rent scams).

Habits that build a reputation

Most agents get work by referral. Landlords pass you their next vacancy, and tenants recommend you to friends, only if the first deal went cleanly. A few habits make the difference:

  • Quote the full cost to a tenant once, in writing, and never add charges after the viewing.
  • Return calls the same day, including to people you cannot help.
  • Refund any money promptly if a deal falls through, and say so in writing.
  • Keep client money in a separate account, as the Lagos Law requires, so it is never mixed with your spending.

Steps to start

  1. Choose two or three neighbourhoods you know well.
  2. Register a business name with the CAC and open a business account for client money.
  3. In Lagos, register with LASRERA before you advertise.
  4. Build relationships with landlords, caretakers and estate managers in your area.
  5. Use a standard fee letter and receipt for every client.
  6. Keep records of every payment received and paid out.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business Account can hold client money apart from your own with multiple accounts, and you can issue regular or verifiable receipts through Pryme's partnership with VerifyDoc.ai (receipts), so tenants and landlords can check what they paid.

Questions people ask

Do I need a licence to be a real estate agent in Nigeria?

There is no single national licence. Lagos requires registration with LASRERA and a yearly permit, and other states are drafting rules. Estate surveyors and valuers are a separate profession regulated by ESVARBON.

How much does a real estate agent earn in Nigeria?

Agents earn commission. In Lagos the agency fee on lettings is reported as 10% of rent; sales commissions are reported at 5% to 10% for homes below ₦100 million. Income depends on how many deals you close.

What are the requirements for LASRERA registration?

Per the Law's summaries: 18 or older, Nigerian or work permit, LASRRA number, Lagos office, WASC, GCE or NECO, a three-year tax clearance, a CAC business name and a separate client account.

Can I become a real estate agent without a degree?

Yes. LASRERA's individual requirement is a secondary school certificate, according to summaries of the Law. A degree is needed only to qualify as an estate surveyor through ESVARBON.
