Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

PTDF overseas scholarship: eligibility and deadlines

The 2026 PTDF Overseas Scholarship Scheme ran from 18 January to 27 February 2026 for UK, German, French and Malaysian partner universities.

The short answer

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund's 2026 Overseas Scholarship Scheme (OSS) opened on 18 January 2026 and closed on 27 February 2026, for MSc and PhD study at partner universities in the UK, Germany, France and Malaysia only. MSc applicants needed at least a 2:1 (or a 2:2 with industry experience), NYSC, five O'level credits including English and Mathematics and a verified NIN; the award list for 2026/27 was published on 27 May 2026, so the next window is likely to be the 2027 call.

What the PTDF OSS is

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) funds postgraduate training for Nigerians in fields linked to the oil and gas industry. Its Overseas Scholarship Scheme pays for MSc and PhD study abroad, but only at universities the Fund has partnered with. The 2026 call, posted on the PTDF scholarship portal on 18 January 2026, was limited to partner universities in four countries: the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Malaysia.

The Fund also runs an In-Country Scholarship Scheme (ISS) for study at Nigerian public universities. Its 2026/27 window ran from 27 April to 5 June 2026. Do not confuse the two calls.

The 2026 cycle in dates

StageDate (2026 cycle)
Overseas call posted18 January 2026
Overseas applications close27 February 2026
InterviewsTop applicants per state invited after screening
2026/27 award list published27 May 2026
In-country (ISS) window27 April to 5 June 2026

Eligibility

MSc

  • First degree at second class upper (2:1), or second class lower (2:2) plus industry experience.
  • NYSC discharge or exemption certificate.
  • Five O'level credits including English Language and Mathematics.
  • A statement of purpose of no more than 500 words.
  • A NIN verified with NIMC, which carries a NIMC verification charge.

PhD

  • At least a 2:2 first degree and a good postgraduate degree.
  • A research proposal of no more than five pages.
  • For the PTDF/DAAD PhD route in Germany, a confirmed supervisor before the interview stage.
  • For the UK split-site PhD, study is shared with the Centre for Petroleum Economics, Kaduna (CPESK) and runs with Robert Gordon University, the University of Strathclyde and the University of Portsmouth.

How selection works

  1. Apply online on the PTDF scholarship portal within the window, choosing a partner university and course from the list.
  2. Applications are screened against the guidelines.
  3. The top applicants in each state are invited for interview, so competition is within your state of origin as well as nationally.
  4. Successful candidates appear on the award list and then complete placement with the partner university.

Read the interview invitation carefully for the venue, date and the original documents to bring; a missing original can end an otherwise strong application at that stage.

Because selection runs by state, a strong application from a state with fewer applicants can fare differently from an identical one in a crowded state. Make sure the state on your application matches your documents.

What the award pays

The guidelines list return flights, health insurance, tuition and bench fees, and accommodation and living allowances. The call does not publish monthly allowance amounts, which depend on the country and partner university, so plan around the figures in your award letter.

Worked example: what is not covered

Example only. An MSc scholar heading to the UK checks her award letter and finds the visa fee is not listed. The Home Office fee table effective 8 October 2026 sets the Student visa fee from outside the UK at £558. She also budgets an example £700 for her first weeks before the allowance arrives. That is £558 + £700 = £1,258. If she holds £800, she needs £1,258 − £800 = £458 more before travel. Check your own award letter line by line for what is and is not paid.

Making a stronger application

  • Choose a course that matches both your first degree and a clear role in the Nigerian oil and gas sector; the statement of purpose has only 500 words, so make each one specific.
  • If you are relying on a 2:2 plus industry experience, get an employer letter that states your role, dates and duties.
  • For a PhD, write the five-page proposal around a problem the partner university's department already works on, and name it.
  • Apply early in the window; a late technical or NIN verification problem is far easier to fix with weeks to spare than with hours.

What to check first

  1. Whether your course is on the partner list for the 2027 call when it opens.
  2. Your NIN verification status, which can take time.
  3. Your NYSC certificate and O'level results, in the form the portal accepts.
  4. For a PhD, a supervisor at the partner university, early.

Compare with other awards in our scholarship deadlines calendar, DAAD for Nigerians and Commonwealth scholarships.

Where Pryme fits

PTDF scholars in the UK, Germany or France receive allowances in pounds or euros. A Pryme account holds GBP and EUR alongside naira, so you can move money home when you choose with Swap, which shows the rate before you approve.

Questions people ask

When is the PTDF scholarship 2027 opening?

It had not been announced in October 2026. The 2026 overseas call opened on 18 January and closed on 27 February 2026.

Which countries does PTDF scholarship cover?

The 2026 overseas call covered partner universities in the UK, Germany, France and Malaysia only.

Can I apply for PTDF with a second class lower?

For an MSc, yes if you also have industry experience. For a PhD, a 2:2 is accepted with a good postgraduate degree.

Do I need NIN for PTDF scholarship?

Yes. The 2026 guidelines require a NIN verified with NIMC.
