Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Photography business: camera kit cost and pricing a shoot

Starting a photography business in Nigeria: an entry kit costed as an example, editing time, pricing packages, event deposits and consent.

The short answer

An entry photography kit with a used camera, two lenses, flash, editing laptop and backup drives costs about ₦2.13 million in our labelled example. Price packages from your per-shoot costs and editing time, and take a deposit to secure event dates.

What kind of photographer to be

Photography in Nigeria pays across several markets: weddings and traditional engagements, birthdays and family portraits, corporate headshots and events, product photos for online sellers, real estate and shortlet listings, and church and school events. Each needs slightly different kit and pricing. Pick one or two to start; a photographer known for one thing gets referrals faster.

Entry kit (example)

Example only. Camera gear is imported and priced with the exchange rate. Used bodies and lenses from trusted sellers cut costs a great deal; check shutter count and lens condition.

Item (example)Amount
Camera body (used, full-frame or APS-C)₦700,000
Kit zoom lens and 50mm prime₦300,000
Speedlight flash₦80,000
Spare batteries and charger₦60,000
Memory cards₦40,000
Laptop for editing₦600,000
Two external hard drives₦150,000
Backdrop and light stand₦100,000
Editing software (first year)₦100,000
Total₦2,130,000

Spend on lenses before a newer body. A good prime lens improves portraits more than a camera upgrade. Back up every shoot to two drives; losing a couple's wedding photos is the worst mistake a photographer can make.

Editing is half the work

Clients pay for finished photos, not raw files. Culling, colour-correcting and retouching a wedding can take several days. Count editing time when you price. Many photographers build presets for a consistent look, outsource retouching to a trusted editor in busy months, or hire an assistant to cull.

Pricing packages

Price from your costs per shoot (second shooter, transport, editing, storage, prints) plus your time and skill, then compare with photographers at your level. Packages make choice easier for clients.

Package (example)What it includes (example)Price (example)
Portrait sessionOne hour, one location, 10 edited photos₦50,000
Birthday or eventFour hours, 150 edited photos₦150,000
WeddingTwo photographers, full day, 300 edited photos₦600,000
Product photosPer product or per batch of 10Quoted per job
Album or printsSeparate lineQuoted per album

A wedding booking (example)

Example only. A ₦600,000 wedding package. Costs: second shooter ₦80,000, transport ₦30,000, editing assistant ₦50,000 and storage ₦10,000, a total of ₦170,000. The job leaves ₦430,000 (₦600,000 − ₦170,000) for the shoot and about a week of editing.

Deposits and contracts for events

Event dates are booked months ahead, and turning down other clients for a date that is later cancelled is costly. Most event photographers take a deposit to secure the date and the balance before or on the day.

  • Deposit amount (for example 50%) and whether it is refundable.
  • Hours of coverage and overtime rate.
  • Number of edited photos and delivery time, such as four weeks.
  • How photos are delivered (online gallery, drive) and for how long you keep copies.
  • Whether you may use photos in your portfolio.
  • Travel and accommodation for out-of-town events.

Photos of people are personal data. The Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 applies, and the NDPC's directive operational from 19 September 2025 adds duties such as reporting data breaches within 72 hours. In practice: get the client's consent before posting photos, take extra care with children, keep client galleries private by default, and store drives securely.

Building a portfolio and getting bookings

  • Shoot friends and family to build a first set, then offer a few discounted sessions for reviews.
  • Post a small, strong selection rather than every photo.
  • Partner with planners, makeup artists and MCs; see makeup artist pricing and how MCs price.
  • Offer product photography to online sellers who need images every week.
  • Answer enquiries with a clear package list.

Interior and shortlet shoots pair well with decorators; see how decorators charge.

Product and listing photography

Online sellers, restaurants, shortlet owners and estate agents need fresh photos regularly, which can steady income between events. A simple light tent or a window, a white backdrop and a tripod go a long way for products. Price per product or per batch, agree how many angles each item gets, and deliver images sized for the platforms the client uses. Repeat clients on a monthly arrangement are worth a lower rate per image.

Insure or at least secure your gear: a stolen camera bag can end a small business. Keep receipts and serial numbers, and never leave kit visible in a car.

What to check first

  1. Choose your first market.
  2. Buy a used body and a good lens, and two backup drives.
  3. Time your editing for a sample shoot.
  4. Write packages and a contract template.
  5. Register a business name for corporate clients (₦20,000 plus ₦1,000 name reservation on the CAC schedule dated 29 May 2025).

Where Pryme fits

Deposits and balances come by transfer, sometimes from relatives abroad. A Pryme Business Account holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR with account details for each, and invoicing helps you bill deposits and balances.
