Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Opening a bank account for an NGO or church in Nigeria

The CAC incorporated trustees documents, the trustees' resolution and the free SCUML certificate a bank asks for to open an NGO or church account.

The short answer

An NGO, church, mosque or association opens a bank account in the name of its incorporated trustees, using its CAC certificate of incorporation and registration documents, its constitution, a resolution of the trustees naming signatories and the signing rule, and the signatories' ID and BVN. Banks also ask for evidence of SCUML registration where it applies; SCUML says registration is free and done only through its own portal.

Register before you bank

Churches, mosques, foundations, alumni groups and NGOs usually register with the Corporate Affairs Commission as incorporated trustees, under the part of the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020 that deals with them (Part F). Registration gives the body of trustees a legal identity, so the account can be opened in its registered name rather than a pastor's or founder's personal name. An unregistered ministry or group will find most banks unwilling to open an account in the group's name.

The documents banks ask for

Greenwich Merchant Bank's corporate account form, for example, asks a society, club, association or NGO for its constitution, rules and regulations, its certificate of registration and a resolution of its governing organ, plus general requirements that apply to every applicant. Put together, expect:

DocumentNotes
CAC certificate of incorporation (incorporated trustees)In the exact registered name
CAC registration documents listing the trusteesThe bank checks that signatories have authority
ConstitutionThe organisation's rules, including how funds are handled
Trustees' (or governing council's) resolutionOpens the account, names signatories and sets the mandate
SCUML certificate, where applicableGreenwich lists 'Evidence of Registration with SCUML (where applicable)'
Signatories' KYCValid ID, BVN, photographs and proof of address for each signatory and, per Greenwich's form, beneficial owners and key promoters
Proof of the organisation's addressUtility bill, tenancy or similar
ReferencesGreenwich asks for two references from corporate current-account holders; practice varies

SCUML: what it is and how to get it

The Special Control Unit against Money Laundering (SCUML) sits within the EFCC and registers designated non-financial businesses and professions. Its Registration Guideline lists at-risk non-profit organisations among those it covers, along with sectors such as hotels, real estate and law firms. Banks therefore often ask NGOs and religious bodies for a SCUML certificate before opening or fully operating an account.

  • Apply only through the official portal at scuml.efcc.gov.ng. SCUML says third-party agents are not authorised.
  • Registration and certification are free of charge, according to the guideline. Anyone asking you to pay for a SCUML certificate is not SCUML.
  • Non-profits supply their registration documents and a TIN or evidence of tax exemption, merged into one PDF of no more than 2.5MB.
  • SCUML's contact on the guideline is No. 5 Fomella Street, Wuse II, Abuja, helpdeskscuml@efcc.gov.ng.

The guideline does not state a processing time, so apply well before you need the account.

Writing the trustees' resolution

The resolution is the document most often sent back. It should give the organisation's registered name and CAC number, state that the trustees resolved to open an account with the named bank, list each signatory with position, and set the mandate. Example only: a church names its senior pastor, its treasurer and one trustee, and requires any two to sign, one of whom must be the treasurer. That keeps offerings and project funds under dual control. Sign and date it in the form your constitution requires. For mandate design, see signatories and mandates; for changes after elections or transitions, see changing a signatory.

Expect the bank to verify the trustees against the CAC record before activating the account, and to ask for updated documents later if trustees change. Keep certified copies of the registration documents in the office so these requests can be met quickly.

Running a donation account

  • Keep donations and project grants in the organisation's account only, never in a leader's personal account.
  • Consider separate accounts for restricted grants so you can report to each donor; see more than one account.
  • Issue a receipt for every gift and keep records. SCUML's 2026 compliance checklist, for the businesses it supervises, expects records to be kept for at least 5 years and beneficial ownership to be checked through CAC's register.
  • Expect questions on large cash lodgements and foreign inflows; keep the matching paperwork ready.

Common reasons applications stall

  • The trustees named in the resolution are not the trustees on the CAC record, often because trustees changed and the change was never filed.
  • The account name requested differs from the registered name, for example "Grace Chapel" instead of "The Incorporated Trustees of Grace Chapel" as registered.
  • No SCUML certificate when the bank treats the organisation as an at-risk non-profit.
  • References not yet returned by the referees.
  • A signatory's BVN details do not match their ID.

What to check first

  1. The name on the CAC certificate, constitution and resolution is identical.
  2. The resolution is signed by the trustees the CAC record shows.
  3. You have the SCUML certificate, or know whether the bank needs it.
  4. Every signatory's ID, BVN and proof of address are current.

Where Pryme fits

Donors increasingly want proof that a gift was received. Any Pryme customer can generate a regular or a verifiable receipt or statement through VerifyDoc.ai, and anyone can check a verifiable one is genuine and unaltered (receipts). To ask whether your organisation's registration type can open a Pryme Business Account, contact Pryme.

Questions people ask

What documents do I need to open a church account in Nigeria?

The CAC incorporated trustees certificate and registration documents, the constitution, a trustees' resolution naming signatories and the mandate, the signatories' ID and BVN, proof of address, and SCUML evidence where the bank requires it.

Is SCUML registration free?

Yes. SCUML's Registration Guideline says registration and certification are free and must be done only through its official portal; agents are not authorised.

Can an unregistered church open a bank account?

Most banks will not open an account in an unregistered group's name. Register the incorporated trustees with CAC first.

Who can be a signatory on an NGO account?

The people the trustees name in their resolution, under the mandate it sets and in line with the constitution. Using two signatures is common for donor money.
