Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Life in Port Harcourt

One-chance and late-night travel in Port Harcourt: money safety

How to protect your phone, cards and bank apps when travelling at night in Port Harcourt, using the 2026 police advice on one-chance vehicles.

The short answer

One-chance robbers use ordinary-looking taxis, buses and tricycles to rob passengers and often force them to transfer money from their phones. In Port Harcourt, police advise avoiding isolated or poorly lit pick-up points, tinted vehicles and sitting between strangers, and say tricycles may not run after 10pm. Protect your money by keeping limits low on your phone, using an authenticator app and a strong PIN, and knowing who to call within minutes.

What one-chance looks like

A one-chance vehicle looks like any other bus, taxi or keke. The "passengers" already inside are part of the gang. Once you board, the vehicle changes route, and you are robbed of cash and phone. The more damaging part is often what happens next: victims are forced to open their banking apps and transfer money, or to reveal PINs, while still in the vehicle.

Rivers State police issued renewed warnings in May 2026, and BusinessDay reported further measures in June 2026. From 18 May 2026, commercial tricycles were barred from having tinted glass or coverings that hide passengers, or concealed number plates, and unregistered vehicles were prohibited. The existing restriction on tricycles after 10pm remained in force.

The police advice, in plain terms

  • Do not board at isolated or poorly lit spots, especially at night.
  • Be wary if occupants seem aggressive or the interior is tinted or covered.
  • Do not sit squeezed between people you do not know; make sure you can get out easily.
  • Photograph the vehicle and its number plate before you board and send it to someone you trust.
  • Share your trip details; keep cash, phones and jewellery out of sight.
  • Get off if you feel unsafe, and report anything suspicious to the nearest police division.

After 10pm, a keke offering you a ride is itself a warning sign, since tricycles should not be operating.

Make your phone a poor target

You cannot control who is in the car, but you can control how much a robber can take from your phone in ten minutes.

SettingWhy it helps
Lower daily transfer limits on your banking appsCaps what can be sent under duress
Authenticator app instead of SMS codesA stolen SIM or a forced glance at messages is less useful
Transaction PIN that is not your birthday or phone passcodeSlows down anyone who watched you open the phone
Separate the moneyKeep most savings in an account or savings pot that is not instantly spendable
Phone lock with biometrics and a strong passcodeProtects everything else on the phone

See authenticator app vs SMS codes and keeping your transaction PIN safe for the detail.

If it happens: the first hour

Your safety comes first. Do not resist a robbery. Once you are safe, speed matters for your money:

  1. Borrow a phone and call your bank or app's support line to block your accounts and cards. Write down the numbers on paper and keep them in your wallet or with family.
  2. Call your mobile network to block the SIM so it cannot receive codes.
  3. Report to the nearest police division and get a written report; banks often ask for it.
  4. List every transfer you were forced to make: time, amount and recipient if you saw it. Give this to your bank as soon as possible.
  5. Change passwords for email and banking from a safe device.

Our national guide, lost money to fraud: what to do in the first hour, explains how banks handle the recipient accounts.

Talk to your household

Teenagers heading to evening lessons, a spouse on a late shift, a relative visiting from the village who does not know the city: each needs the same basic plan. Agree a family rule for travel after dark, such as always sending a photo of the plate and an arrival message. Make sure everyone has the bank support numbers written down, not only stored in their phone. And agree that nobody will be blamed for handing over a phone or making a forced transfer; the priority is getting home safely, then blocking the account quickly.

  • Keep a printed card with bank, network and family numbers.
  • Agree a code word for real emergencies, so a call from a robber's phone is easier to spot.
  • Practise blocking a card in the app so everyone knows where the option is.

Planning late trips

Most one-chance incidents happen when people are tired, in a hurry and short of options. Planning removes some of that pressure.

Late shift in Trans-Amadi or Onne
Agree a shared taxi or ride-hailing with colleagues and budget for it monthly.
Arriving at night from Lagos or Abuja
Arrange pick-up in advance rather than taking the first vehicle at the park or airport.
Social events in GRA
Leave before 10pm if you rely on keke, or plan the ride home before you go out.
Waiting at a junction
Stand where it is lit and busy, such as near shops, rather than at an empty stretch of road.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme uses an authenticator app rather than SMS codes and requires a transaction PIN; see how Pryme protects your account. Keeping savings in a Fixed Box means that money is not spendable on the spot. If your phone is taken, contact Pryme support from another device straight away.
